Finding Seekers: How to Develop a Spiritual Direction Practice from Beginning to Full-Time Employment

Rate this book
You have spent a great amount of time, effort, and money in training to be a good spiritual director. Now you can fulfill this calling as your full-time work. This book is an "insider's report from the trenches," based on Bruce Tallman's experience of being a full-time spiritual director since 2002 and his research on how successful counselors set up their practices. Dr. Tallman has presented this material in training sessions for spiritual directors across North America. It is becoming "required reading" in many programs because it is full of practical, down-to-earth insights on every aspect of developing a spiritual direction practice. The book has sold well as an ebook since 2007 and now has been totally updated on how to find seekers through social media Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Skype. This Kindle e-book is FREE when you buy the paperback.

Solid overview

This book is a solid overview of the practical, dare I say business side of starting a Spiritual Direction practice. It covers everything from finding directees to marketing to hospitality. Well worthit

The mealy-mouthed "Higher Power" talk was off-putting. I understand what he's seeking to accomplish with it, but...ew. "All the gods of the nations are idols, but Yahweh made the heavens," and there is no reason to be shy about it. For that reason, it took me a long time to get through the book -- I kept putting it down in disgust.
That said, the book distills the author's years of experience as a full-time spiritual director, and addresses a number of the gritty realities of his chosen profession. The questions he poses and the exercises that flow from those questions are useful grist for the mill. Despite my irritation with it, this book will go on my shelf as a reference next to The $100 Startup, The Artist's Way, and Business Mastery.

Helpful but felt like it was written for brand new Directors rather than long term directors like me.
