With dreams as the canvas and the imagination as the brush, there are no limits to where a child's mind will take them. This vividly illustrated dream-time adventure is a wonderful way to help children settle down to sleep. The richly imaginative story will take you up to the starry night sky, down into moonlit gardens, and all the way to the deepest depths of the sea.
Note: I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads. So as I saw it put elsewhere a free book does not equal a good review.
This is a kids book. As an adult I give it a 3 star rating. Yes, the story was whimsical and somewhat imaginative. The art was beautiful, and was my favorite part about the book. The writing lacked finesse in my opinion. Some parts rhymed, some parts didn't. I enjoy reading stories that have a good flow and this seemed stilted to me.
Now if my girls knew how to rate a book, they would each give it a 5 star rating. They were enchanted by the art, ad the story encourage them to pull out their dusty (formerly) unloved pony stuffed animals and play. The six year old told me to stop reading, the pictures were too pretty to talk over. The four year old was in love, ponies are her favorite. And the three year old loved the story and the art.
All in all, I split the difference between my rating and theirs and gave the book 4 stars. It wasn't too bad, just not my favorite kids book to read to them.
This is a sweet kids' book! I'd recommend it to every parent looking for something to read their child! It might not flow the greatest from an adult perspective but, personally, I think it might help get the kids settled down for bedtime, if one was to try.
When night falls, a young child and her stuffed horse named, Butterscotch, prance into the magical world of Dreamland. There they catch comets by their tails and dance with the Northern lights until the break of dawn.
Butterscotch and Me is a lovely bedtime story. The soothing text and imaginative illustrations make it a perfect book to read to children ages four to seven.
