This was a perfectly good book. Just super predictable, kinda corny and really really sweet.
I missed more character interaction, more “moments”.

I struggled to understand their attraction because they were more apart than together.
It was one of those type of books you read when you need something sweet & uncomplicated.
Also the “alpha-man” aspect kinda fell flat for me. 🤭
I loved Teri though. And Aria’s brothers. Great side characters in general.

I really wanted to like this more as it's set in my home, New Zealand, and there aren't many books out there that are. Sadly I didn't really connect with the story. I think I have to allow artistic license to introducing a first class to domestic New Zealand flights, yeah not happening people if you expect that coming here. Also no small town New Zealand dog shelter would have 20 dogs, I know, I've worked in one.
That aside the beach scene had me cringing mentally so I skipped most of it. What millionaire who doesn't want kids would have unprotected sex? Pretty sure that's none.
I did manage to finish it but that's as far as it goes.

Yeah, I’m gonna have to dnf this. This is just one of those books where there’s nothing explicitly wrong with it, and yet, despite being 38% through, there isn’t anything to hook me either. I might give it another shot later, but who am I kidding? I’ve got tons of books waiting on my tbr list and not enough time, so it’s probably not gonna happen.

But hey, if you’re up for a lighthearted kiwi-based romance, give it a shot. Perhaps this one's for you.

This rated more like 3.5 stars for me. I couldn't really get into the characters. Eli, who is supposed to be a hard-nosed businessman, let his parents walk all over him. His parents were nothing but stereotypes. It made no sense when his mother turned around toward the end. His father's character wasn't fleshed out at all. Neither was Eli's younger sister's. She was a rebellious teen, but quickly came around because of Aria's influence. It seemed too easy. Aria's actions were all over the place. First, she wanted to keep her distance from Eli, but then she was inviting him to get physical with her. Eli and Aria's back-and-forth relationship got a bit tedious. When Aria came to Eli to let him know she loved him and he blew her off because he was working on his plan to win her back--that was just plain stupidity on his part, not what I would expect from a smart businessman. The ending was satisfying though. There were few grammatical errors, although the author did refer to Eli as Ethan once.

Full with cliches, although that’s not a bad thing, since they worked well and they didn’t just appear from nowhere, so it made sense.
The end was a bit fast, that was an issue, I mean, not because I’m questioning the characters’ feelings, but because everything went to a terrible situation to a happy ever after in just two chapters.

Either way, I enjoyed reading it during my travel home-to-work and work-to-home.

This is an entertaining, fun read. Eli and Aria are interesting, relatable, intriguing, strong, wounded, complex, entertaining characters. I enjoyed their romance and the path it took to get to their HEA. The secondary characters – especially Teri – added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. The story is easy to read and get into.

I really struggled with this one. I don’t know if it was the writing or the characters, but it just didn’t gel with me.

In my humble opinion, of course 💙

Wasn’t really feeling the chemistry or banter between the hero and heroine. Felt the romance and emotional bonding could be better. I didn’t like that the heroine didn’t even want to try to build a life with the hero before he tried his best to convince her. Couldn’t connect with the story.

To be honest it probably doesn’t deserve the second star I just feel bad. Was the story good? No. Was the writing good? No. But were the characters lovable and interesting? Also no.

This one has the Hallmark plot where the big city rich guy gets sorted out by the small town girl.

It was okay. Not a lot of depth. Both main characters are attracted to a person who makes them confront a vague fear from their past. Then, things work out.

Dialogue is basic and romance centered. Pace is slow. Attraction is insta-lust but the author works in some other qualities eventually. Setting was probably the best aspect of the writing.

Some violence. Sex. Some swearing. Family drama. Image consciousness, body shaming, bullying.

She is a journalist that just moved back to her hometown in New Zealand. He is a successful land developer who just bought property in that small town for a business opportunity.

Aria Simmons has been given an opportunity for advancement in her office if she can deliver some amazing content to their local community paper. When town gossip spreads about an out of town company has bought some of their two property with plans to build a shopping center and motel. Some of her community is excited about the prospect and some don't want their community to become commercialized. When she meets the man in charge of this project she was not prepared for him to be handsome.

Eli Lockwood went against his parent's wishes and started his own successful business as a land developer. When roadblocks spring up on the property in Itirangi he decides to visit it in person to see if he can move the process along. What he didn't expect was a pretty member of the press standing in his home early in the morning.

Things between Eli and Aria are awkward at first knowing they are on opposite sides of a cause. When Eli reaches out to Aria for help the lines blur into a type of friendship. The chemistry and attraction between them is evident on both sides and they decide to indulge that urge. In the aftermath, the two decide it was a mistake and move on with their very different lives. Eli wants a casual relationship with Aria and she shuts the idea down. When fate steps in bringing them back to each other they don't know what they want for a future or if they can even be together.

Dual POV, enemies to lovers, small town romance, sex scenes: yes.

3.5 stars. First time reading this author. While this story was unique there were parts of it that fell flat to me.

Spoilers:
Eli and Aria were at odds for most of the book. As a reader we had almost no time of them happy as a couple. That detail didn't lend very well to the idea of insta-love between them. They went from calling each other a mistake with the sheets still warm to then saying they love each other. I wanted more content of them together. The accidental pregnancy felt forced and a little contrived. I would have liked these two to choose each other regardless of sharing a child. The HEA and Epilogue are sweet.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Journalist Aria is hoping to land a big story so she can impress her boss enough to fill the vacant slot for senior reporter. She might be in luck when she finds out that a developer has bought land on her a small island and plans to make a complex including shops and a motel. Her first piece about it questions how such a place will affect their small-town life. Eli sees it as a hit piece and heads there for damage control.

This story felt like several in one. First, there’s an arc about Aria’s career, and there's also one for the development deal. Of course, romance is here, too, and that gets further complicated by an unintended pregnancy. All of these lines have complications, actually. Arya has a troubled work history that makes her reticent interact with Eli personally even though they have chemistry; Eli doesn’t have the best social graces. The town does have legitimate concerns about what the development deal will mean. Family issues exist on the sides, both as backstory and in the current storyline.

Despite all the issues and complications, Aria and Eli are both decent people. I didn’t like how the hero and heroine spent so much time at odds through most of the book, even though they did have a solid basis for attraction and a good relationship. Sometimes it seemed like they shot themselves in the foot. I definitely at times felt that if they just simply talked to each other, they could get beyond so much of what was troubling them; it's a little frustrating at times, and I think the author did draw some of this out too much as it did start to feel repetitious.

That said, I actually did enjoy the book. I like to Aria and Eli as a couple, and I enjoyed seeing their interactions with friends, colleagues, and family. The author writes with humor, and the dialogue feels authentic.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Notes for myself
When you accidentally get pregnant to a millionaire and the first time you meet his parents, they insult you to your face. "I can't believe you said that in front of her," your baby daddy growls. "I thought you would at least try to act like a decent human being. I guess I was hoping for too much." He stands and takes your arm. "I've had enough of this. Let's go.: His sister stands too, and takes your hand. "Don't you think you're overreacting?" his mother asks. "No," he says stiffly. "I don't. She's having my baby, and I intend to raise it with her." He pulls you closer. "She will be in my life for the foreseeable future, so you had better accustom yourself to the idea." His mother's jaw drops. "You've got this little country tramp pregnant?" "She is not a tramp," he snaps. "She's a sweet, successful woman, and she's going to be a wonderful mother." He smiles down at you. "You're amazing." You try to smile back, but your mouth trembles. "Thank you." "You can't be serious!" his mother cries. "She's not even remotely suitable. She probably got pregnant on purpose to get her greedy little paws on your money." "Don't speak about her like that," he warns, his expression dark. "You may be my mother, but if you ask me to choose between you and my child, you're going to lose." "Why don't we all calm down?" his dad says. "Son, it's understandable that you feel obligated to the girl, but these days, it's not a big deal for a woman to be a single mother. You can support her financially, but you don't have to tie yourself to her for the rest of your life." "With all possible respect, it's my choice," he tells them coolly. "I'll do as I see fit. I came here to do you the courtesy of letting you know you're going to be grandparents." He takes a deep breath. "I'll speak to you again in a few weeks. Meanwhile, think about whether you want to have a relationship with your grandchild."

Accidentally Yours is the first book in the Little Sky series by Alexa Rivers. While pursuing a promotion, Aria Simons’s journalism career has gone up in flames. Now disgraced, she retreats to her lakeside hometown with the determination to redeem herself. She wants the scoop on millionaire CEO Eli Lockwood and the new property development he is working on. However, Eli hates the press and he is equally determined to stop her. Eli then realizes that Aria could help him with his troubled sister and they strike a deal. What they do not account for is their attraction and one night of passion leads to lasting consequences with one positive pregnancy test. Eli never put much thought in wanting to have children and Aria is still trying to figure out her life. Can they pull together for their ready made family? Or will they fall apart?
The surprise pregnancy trope is usually one I avoid; however, I do enjoy a good enemies to lovers romance, so I decided to take a chance. I also enjoyed that it was set in a small town in New Zealand, which is new and different. However, from the very beginning, I did not care for Aria and Eli as characters or as a couple. The insta-lust was cringey. I didn’t see the attraction between them as all. I definitely didn’t like that Eli was so possessive after one kiss. The conflict of will they be together or not dragged on way too much and I wanted to scream at them to talk to each other and make a decision! The waffling back and forth is annoying. Overall, I did not care for this story and I will not be continuing the series. I do not recommend Accidentally Yours.

This was a quick read and can be read as a standalone. The characters and storyline was just “ok” for me. This took me a bit to get into and I did not feel the real connection between Aria and Eli until the end portion of the book.

Eli is a rich developer going into Aria’s small town and there is resistance. Her job as a journalist is to write a story about him and the project. They develop an attraction to each other, but resist temptation for a little while. They have both been burned by love and fight their connection for as long as they can. One night changes it all and we get to read about their journey to finding love.

I didn’t connect with either of them for the majority of the book, but the ending was good. I felt bad for them mostly, he has bad parents and she was burned in her last job. Both things affected their ability to trust in love. I did enjoy Eli’s sister and Aria’s brothers. I felt like they had more sense and they were the one to bring them together. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Journalist Aria has to prove herself and earn a promotion at in hometown Itirangi, New Zealand on her own merits after she was run out of her last job falsely accused of sleeping her way to the top. She needs a big story and thinks she’s found it investigating the development company that is building a shopping complex. Eliajah Lockwood reads negative press about his new development complex and decides to go there in person to smooth it over. Aria and Eli have a love hate relationship at first and they can’t deny their attraction to each other. After growing up with emotionally distant parents, Eli doesn’t want to be father, but the results of a one night stand with Aria take that out option of his hands. In addition he has to deal with taking care of his moody teenage sister Teri for the summer. I liked that Aria volunteered at the animal shelter and the food she prepared sounded yummy. The descriptions of New Zealand made me want to visit someday.

Unfortunately I only made it halfway through this book before I decided to stop, which hasn't happened in a while.

Aria is a newsreporter looking for some good stories in her small town in order to get the new reporter job at the local newspaper outlet. And she finds a big scoop from a townie that a big company plans on building big complexes in their small town to take advantage of the tourism they receive.

Eli Lockwood is the CEO of the big company with the intent of coming into Arias town. But when a persistent reporter keeps causing trouble for him to start building, he comes himself to try to settle things.

It honestly all has a great premise, but I just personally didn't feel that Aria and Eli had great chemistry. They felt forced to me.

Again. This book had other great aspects surrounding their relationship however, I decided to stop when the two main characters didn't feel to fit well

My book club theme was newspapers, so I tried, but so hard! What I did was to browse freebies then and found this.

It was very self pubbed. Sorry but yes.

She was a hotshot journalist, now she is in her small home town
He is the big shot developer, who lets his parents shit on him

Omg the scene where she meets his parents and the dad tells her that he was sure she would like meat if she just tried it. And she her mum or she could not cook so that is the reason. I laughed so hard at that. Who would even talk like that?

They also have un protected sex and she gets preggers and he does ask her if she is sure it is his. Damn man. But that is forgotten in a second.

I never felt their connection. It did have promise though, but it would need to flow more. To have less bitchy people, and for them to actually fall in love

Ariana Simons lives in Itirangi New Zealand. She works for the South Canterbury Chronicle and was summoned to her boss Derek’s office. She and another reporter, Johnny Chen are nominated for the senior reporter position. Aria has the next 4 weeks to prove she’s the right person for the job.

Elijah Lockwood owns Lockwood Holdings Limited. He is a real estate developer who plans on building a shopping center and motel in Itirangi. It would bring more tourists but might hurt the local businesses. His office is in Aukland but he ends up making time to personally go to Itirangi.

Aria is going to investigate and write a series of articles about the new real estate development and Elijah. Both have been humiliated in their past personal lives.

I loved watching their relationship unfold.

When journalist Aria Simons’s career went up in flames, she retreated to her lakeside hometown. Now, she’s determined to redeem herself by getting the scoop on Eli Lockwood’s new property development, but the arrogant millionaire seems hellbent on stopping her.
That is, until he realizes she’s the only one who can connect with his troubled sister, Teri.
A cute slow burn, enemies to lovers romance with insta attraction.
I adored the humour and dialogue in this book, and though there were a couple of smut scenes it didn't override the plot in anyway. It's cute and romantic just what you'd enjoy if you're an Elsie Silver fan.
I enjoyed the pace and the slow burn and I definitely loved Aria's brothers especially Cooper. So pleased he has his own book which I'm looking forward to reading.

Lovely story

Who doesn't love a story where there are misunderstanding in the lead up to the happy ever after?
Aria has had a bad experience with a powerful man which made her run back home, when she meets Eli she is attracted but also scared he will hurt her too. The pair eventually give in to their mutual desire for each other but she still can't accept he wants her for who she is and does not think she is a gold digger. Hurt by her rejection Eli then rejects Aria when she tried to make amends but eventually her family get the couple back together.
I thought the epilogue jumped a little too much, I wanted to see Aria try to connect with Eli's family but that is just my preference

Billionaire and the small town heroine

Elijah is a big city billionaire, who bought a big chunk of land in her hometown to build a shopping complex. Aria is a journalist who is suspicious of his intentions. Somewhat decent storyline but some issues. He is supposed to be a no nonsense tough businessman but he let's his mother treat him with little respect, etc. Aria constantly changes her mind and opinions of him. They have major commitment issues.
Some under developed characters like his sister, Teri. She is a rebellious teen who suddenly changes her ways when around Aria but not much else is explained about her. His father is mentioned but that's about it.
Hopefully next book is plotted out better

I read this as part of the Small Town Beginnings boxed set that Alexa recently put together. She and another co-worker are up for the same promotion at the paper where they work. They each have to prove which of them deserves the spot more. She decides to take on the new luxury development that is coming to her hometown. Her first unflattering article catches the attention of the head of Lockwood Industries and provokes him into coming to town to try and stop her. Boy do the sparks fly between these two however both of them have issues from their past that are deeply affecting their futures not to mention his troubled teenage sister.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a book where I can’t really say anything was wrong with the book because it was good. That’s it. It was good.

Eli and Ari are the two main characters in the book. Eli is a staunch business man, while Ari works as a journalist recovering from a PR nightmare.

I hated his parents (mainly his mother) at the start because they’re just… Not great? Neither one of them treat Eli the best, and when Ari is thrown into the mix there are tons of accusations thrown around.

I did find that the whole trope was underwhelming and did nothing for the plot, it was kind of just there. The meat 🥩 meeting with his parents made me uncomfortable because… Why?

Could tell that the author went the self-publishing way but not mad about it!

Elijah had been reared in a very stern home, with much expected of him and certainly displeased his parents when he refused to enter the family business. He instead becomes a successful owner of Lockwood Holdings Limited and now trying to obtain rights to erect a mall in the town of Itirangi, much to the dismay of some individuals.
While Aria on the other hand, needed a boost for her to earn the position as senior reporter of the local newspaper. Their histories don't align for them to have a good start to their meeting and working towards their goals.
This is the second book I have read from this author and I am just as impressed as the last time. I'm excited to see I have another of her books in my library.

Ari is a journalist who had to start fresh after rumors ruined her last job and now she has a chance at a top job again, Eli is a straight laced business man who has no time country towns trying to get in the way of business. When they met sparks fly not just from attraction but also from distrust and frustration and this leads to plenty of cringe worthy and lol moments as well as melt your heart times and hoping that they can get past all the outside interference as well as their insecurities and see how amazing they can be together.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This small town romance is endearing. The characters are strong and powerful. Eli’s a very successful businessman billionaire with both arrogant and superiority attitudes with a penchant for grouchiness. Aria is a very empathic person with a heart of gold. She’s a journalist and has been assigned with writing articles on a new development project in the works in her town. Eli happens to be the new owner of the land purchased and the developer. Imagine what happens when these two total opposites meet! This book is a must read, very funny and humorous at times and frustrating at others but overall it’s amazingly heartwarming and captivating!
