Geneviève Dormann lance aux lecteurs un grand nombre de personnages fort divers qui vont du chauffeur de poids lourd au ministre de l'Intérieur, en passant par la cover-girl et par le jeune banquier. Cette chronique parisienne, de Neuilly, de Nice, de Bombay, etc., cet humour, cette insolence de « hussarde » ne sont pourtant qu'un paratonnerre : au coeur du roman, il y a l'orage, l'amour fou de Joséphine, dite José, pour François Beaufils. Elle ne lui apportera pas des oranges, on s'en doute.

This is the first novel I've read by French author Geneviève Dormann. This book was published in 1971 and set in France during the 60's. Readers follow a beautiful red head young woman from her first marriage at a young age til her mid-thirties. The book presents the new kind of woman, who's disappointed by dreams of marriage and wants to live free and differently from her mother. She's a rebel compared to parts of society who wishes for adventure, freedom, and real love.

The writing style of the author is partly confusing. Readers follow the leading character throughout her life, but several the author writes a chapter narrated by a third party about the leading character. Other times the author writes sentences, descriptions in series that don't make sense or irrevelant to the story as if it to fill up pages. I just got bored with this confusing writing style used. The pace of the story is slow. The leading character's story is actually not creative and the woman is never assertive in her decisions and always dependant on men. It might seem to be a feminist novel, but it is not.

Livre trouvé dans la bibliothèque de mes parents et écrit en 1971. Soit.
Il n'en reste que José m'insupporte. Pourquoi elle tombe amoureuse est un mystère et sa vie est entièrement tournée autour des hommes qu'elle fréquente.
Pourtant court, j'ai eu du mal à terminer ce roman qui se perd dans beaucoup de directions.

Un très bon livre, honnêtement. Je l'ai beaucoup aimé; je me suis accrochée facilement au personnage principal et suivre son parcours a été passionnant. J'ai dévoré ce livre en moins d'une semaine!

Une jolie plume au service d'un roman fort.
C'est l'histoire d'une passion portée par une femme entière. Un beau roman.
