In Australian Outlook John Legge has sought to trace the history of the Australian Institute of International Affairs, and, at the same time, to outline the major changes which have taken place in Australian perceptions of the outside world over the sixty-five years of the Institute's existence. During that time, acceptance of Britain's imperial leadership has given way to a recognition of separate and distinct Australian interests, to a sense of region and to ideas of engagement with Asia within the framework of the American alliance.
