In No Man's Circus, the Ringmaster controls everything-even me.
Every evening, I'm forced to perform. High above a crowd of supernaturals, I fly on my lyra. Never high enough to escape my captor.
And when the lights go down and the audience goes home, it's just him and me.
I shouldn't enjoy it.
This obsession he has with me.
But as a hybrid in a world where power is king, I'm nothing special.
Except when his eyes are on my body.
He's a beast whose strength is unparalleled, a creature who demands my obedience, but even as the twisted parts of me are drawn to him, I refuse to be broken.
He'll have to kill me first.

USA Today Bestselling Author of steamy PNR and fantasy romance.

Ever since my grandmother first handed me a Nora Roberts novel, I KNEW I wanted to write romance.

I love love. Crave it. For me, genre doesn't matter as long as there is a beautifully epic love story woven into the storyline.

Which is exactly why I chose to write across so many genres. Paranormal, fantasy, contemporary, suspense...no matter which of my books you choose you always know what you're getting: a love story for the ages.

Original review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Jessica Wayne!

Slay Me is the ninth standalone book in the Immortal Vices and Virtues world and tells the story of Liv and Dante.

She’s my beauty. I’m her monster. And there’s not a damn thing I won’t do for her – except let her go.

I’ve been patiently waiting for the next book in the Immortal Vices and Virtues world, and when it finally arrived on my kindle, I got so excited! The Immortal Vices and Virtues world is such an amazing book series with Fantasy Romance books written by different authors and set in the same world. I really love this series because you get to know new authors and you get to read interesting stories with lots of spice! The next book in the series is Slay Me by Jessica Wayne. Jessica Wayne is a new-to-me author, and I really loved her book!

Slay Me is about Liv and Dante. Liv is part of Dante’s circus and in exchange for her performances, she is safe from the outside world. From the moment I met Dante in Liv’s POV, I knew I was going to love him. He’s mysterious and he’s (kind of) her enemy. And if you’ve read some of my other reviews, you know that I LOVE enemies to lovers. I loved reading about Liv and Dante, and I loved seeing them grow towards each other and finally give in to each other. I really enjoyed both POVs and I’m so happy with their ending.

He claimed my body first. My heart second. And now he holds my very soul in his hands.

Slay Me was yet another amazing book in the Immortal Vices and Virtues series, and I’m not surprised. All these authors are so talented, and I love love love this world. Something that I also really enjoy is that you get to see some characters from previous (or sometimes future) books. It’s nice because you get reminded of their story. Although this happens, you can still easily read this book (and the other books) as standalones. But if you do read them as a series, you notice these things. I want to end this review by saying that Slay Me was such a good and addictive book, and I highly recommend the Immortal Vices and Virtues series!

Completely blown away by this book. It is absolute 🔥🔥 The storyline is so good - the circus with the Ringleader/Star of the show and add in the unique paranormal beings - super interesting. I loved all of the characters and how they interacted with each other. The chemistry between the FMC and the MMC was 🥵🥵 I can read so much more about them!

This book was fantastic and definitely my favorite of the entire series, the tug of war, the feelings, dragons, touch it and you die, the characters, everything, I really loved everything, it has been a great book and they give us another little piece of no man's land. Highly recommended.

Love the Ringmaster

Another amazing story in the Immortal Vices and Virtues world. This one features the Ringmaster who we caught a teaser of in another story. I have been intrigued by him. Liv has felt unwanted her entire life, and that feeling didn't change much when she signed her contract....until certain things started to happen.
This story has heat, murder, heat, and mystery. Did I mention heat? It's a great addition to this world

Another story in the shared Immortal Vices and Virtues world. This one features Liv and Dante and is full of angsty tension. Their relationship is so mysterious and intriguing that I could not stop reading. I loved everything about it and can’t wait to see what the side characters end up doing.

3.5*

Worldbuilding:
Set in the world we know and love, this is instalment 9 already! We're in No Man's Land, in No Man's Circus, to be exact. And we're pretty much staying there for the duration of the book. The scenes and environments were clear and detailed enough.

Character development:
We already got a hint of our couple at the end of the last book (Corrupt Me by Everly Frost), and of course, we've seen our Ringmaster in Ignite Me (by Heather Renee). So yeah, I love it when they do cross-overs, even between different authors, which makes it so much more immersive.
Liv is a fury, a child of a harpy and a fae. Unfortunately, she is pretty low on the power scale and, with no real means to defend herself, gets into a really crappy situation which lasts years. Finally, she manages to escape, only to end up being owned by the Ringmaster instead. But at least she's alive.
The Ringmaster, D, Dante, so many names and people still have no clue who or what he is. And that is how he likes it and needs to keep it, even if that means keeping his distance from the enticing Liv and being an absolute bastard.
I enjoyed the dynamic between the two, the obvious pull they feel towards each other, but both having (good) reasons why they should keep their distance. Unfortunately, we don't know much about Dante's past except for a brief explanation about his family, so that was something I missed from the story.
Characters felt real and believable, even if they could have been fleshed out more. I especially liked Fiona and wish we could see more from her (hint hint).

Pacing and flow:
The setup and the flow were really good. However, I feel that the buildup took a bit too long, and the conclusion was too fast. Nevertheless, there was a good balance between all the actions and the conversations.

The book:
The book has 259 pages, spread over 30 chapters and is told from both Liv's and Dante's points of view.
As with the previous books in this series, there is sexual content described (if that is important to you).

Final thoughts:
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book, and while I enjoyed the book, I was a bit disappointed with the fast ending. But I liked the author's writing style, so I will most definitely read more of her books!

A dark fantasy, enemy to lover, owned, possessive, spicy smut filled standalone, FMC & MMC POVs book.

Few triggers. There are suggestions and mention of rape and torture. Kidnapping. Forced imprisonment.

The story itself is a slow burn story. We meet FMC many years into her role at the circus. She's not had a good childhood, and her confidence is low due to mental abuse from her ex. She's now in a contract, one which we get more detail of as the story develops.

The MMC is morally grey and seen by many, especially those he hired, as the villain. But there is more to him, and he hides it for a good reason.

The story is full of mystery as things happen and no one knows who it could be. There's betrayal and death. One hit me hard as it was heartbreaking.
There's smut, and it's hot. Full of the MMCs character. In some ways, I feel like I get to know the MMC more. And the whole power thing...well, I'm not sure I got that bit.
It's worth a read and just tipped the stars from 3 to 4

I received this arc for my honest review. This book is part of the Immortal Vices and Virtues series. Jessica Wayne is a new to me author and she just completely hooked me in from the very beginning. The characters are very well written, there’s mystery about what kind of supernatural Dante is and his connection to Liv. There is someone at the carnival in No Man’s Land killing performer’s and trying to kill Liv. Dante brings others to try and help with what is going on. But while all of that is happening, the connection between Liv and Dante is growing stronger. Liv wants to get free but as her feelings grow and the connection between her and Dante gets stronger, her want for freedom changes. The ride towards their HEA is one you will not want to miss out on. Definitely enjoyed the ride and did not want to get off when I reached the end.

“Slay Me” is a spicy paranormal romance novel about two people who end up together despite all the obstacles that are in their path. First of all, I just wanted to say how much I loved the circus setting. It’s very unique, and I loved the fact that it added to the drama and suspense of this novel. Second of all, I think that Dante and Liv’s love story was absolutely amazing. Even when they didn’t want to admit their attraction, I was rooting for them. This book captivated me; I was drawn in from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down. I loved Dante because he was mysterious and alluring, but also fiercely protective. As for Liv, I thought she was incredible because she had so much strength, and wasn’t broken (despite her past). Jessica Wayne is a fantastic author, and I’d highly recommend this book!!!

Part of the immortal vices and virtues world this book is now one of my favourites. Although set in the shared world you really do not need to have read any of the others for full enjoyment of this book.

The circus scenes are written so well I almost believed I was their and seeing it myself.

The Ringmaster and The Fury's journey is full of lust, hate, obsession, self sacrifice and drama.

The only niggling part in my reader mind is the human Woman and Adaya I would have loved to know more of them and how they fit into the Ringmasters ownership.

I really enjoyed this whole world! If you have started it then I highly recommend doing so.

Dante and Liv were just as great as the rest of the characters in this series.

I also love being able to see other characters we know pop up.

Holy Hotness!
I loved getting to see a part of the Immortal Vices world that is outside the houses rule.
Dante is scary, intriguing and mysterious.
Liv has so much baggage to unpack in this story and Jess does a great job of helping her un pack them.

The No Man’s Circus is absolutely amazing and I loved all the colorful and twisted members of the circus. I couldn’t get enough and I want a whole story with Fiona now. She’s my favorite!

If you loved the show carnival, you’ll love this dark and steamy PNR story about the no man’s circus!

She’s my beauty. I’m her monster.

Oh man this book surprised me. I knew it would be interesting from the blurb and little glimpses we had seen of the Ringmaster in the series previously but girrrllll. This book completely stole my attention. I stayed up too late reading it and still couldn't finish it because I had to sleep at some point 😆

I was a little worried about the chapters being more Liv dominant tbh because I love equal POVs but it worked for this book because it also made sense to be more heavily in Liv's POV. Now, if we had been entirely in hers and had not one glimpse into Dante's well you bet I woulda found someone to fight for that injustice 😆 so I'm glad that didn't need to happen.

I really enjoyed Liv. I think she, much like Dante, had a lot of layers and depth to them. She had an awful past and alot of trauma that seemed as if she hadn't quite worked through despite the years since her escape. Understandable considering her circumstances and falling into a pattern of complacency and safety working under the protection of The Ringmaster. I felt for her throughout the story for what she dealt with. How hard it was to have those horrible memories of abuse. But it made it that much sweeter to see her grow more confident and sure of herself under the, well, rather tough love attitude Dante dished out for the first half of the book.

Now The Ringmaster, aka Dante. He was a delight. Just the grumpiest asshole you can imagine but with the softest center for Liv. I adored his protectiveness for Liv but also for those he deemed worthy and that he considered his. He was proud and powerful but he was also a born leader. And despite the surly attitude and keep away signals neither he nor Liv could fight the pull between them. Fate had other plans.

I truly loved them together. They had chemistry in spades. 🥵 And their journey to being together was rather unique considering they danced around one another for twelve years! Seriously though, it felt like Dante was exactly the kind of presence and personality Liv needed in her life. After all she had endured I think the fresh faced version of herself before her abuse wouldn't have been able to handle or appreciate a life with a man/being like Dante. But the Liv we meet wearing her battle scars and carrying trauma from past injustices done to her...well, I think that woman could find the beauty in what a life with Dante could be. And having him at her back willing to quite literally burn the world down for her didn't hurt either.

And here I thought Corrupt Me was gonna hold strong as my favorite in this series. Hah, I was wrong. Pleasantly so.

Favorite Quotes
Darkness is an addiction, and I’ve been living with it for so long it might as well be my oxygen.

“I don’t lose things that belong to me, Liv.”

“You’re as much of a dick as they say you are.”
“Glad word has spread.”

I stand and march away, desperately needing space between me and the one woman who doesn’t even realize she’s been slowly undoing me since the moment we met.

Dante makes me feel powerful in a world that has deemed me powerless.

“No other could ever come close to you, Liv. Not now. Not ever.”

“If you choose to be free, I will do my damndest to let you go.” He tips his face up to mine. “But if you stay, I will love you with everything that I am. I will set fire to your enemies and slaughter anyone who dares touch you. Until the day I draw my last breath.”

“You deserve happiness, Liv. And a dragon that will eat people for you.”

Dante is an asshole.
We first meet D in book 7 when Greyson brings the girls to his circus to have a place to lay low.
He is the Ringmaster and hold contracts on all his people for them to work decades and decades for him all for saving them or small favors. Basically he saves them from bad situations and then they are stuck with him.

But even if they've signed their life to him, he is a super large asshat to Liv. In book 8 the maiden brings this powerful penny to Liv because she lost it- it was her grandmothers - and the maiden brings it to her. The maiden said there was a lot of power in it, that it was a really powerful item... but that was never explained in this book. Liv just made it seem like it was a necklace from her grandma- nothing special about it. Idk.

Dante knew Liv was his mate from the moment he saw her - TWELVE fucking years before the book takes place. 12!!! I am so curious because this is never explained - but in all the other books the connections were basically instant. The moment they see each other their souls recognize the other and they both are aware they are mates (unless there is something to hide it like a charm or spell) but that wasn't the case. Only Dante was aware of them being mates and I'm confused as to why she never realized it?
I get why he didn't tell her. He didn't want to put her in more danger - but he also didn't want to let her go. Also if he would've told her, she would've ran because after he found her, she was super broken. But its never explained why she didn't recognize what he was to her.

He kept being so rude to her. I wouldn't forgive him especially cause he never really earns it. She does forgive him immediately though - imo made her character super weak. I hate when the FMC just say 'oh i love how you make me feel so even though you treated me like shit I forgive you'
but even with that - I still really enjoyed the story

Out of no where he starts letting her get close. I think its because she finally starts pushing back at him. (woo! go liv!) lol But once he drops the bullshit - he is all in. And for that we love him.

Idk why Ernesto still went after her for 12 damn years. You would think he would've given up eventually? Nope. Then the Pixie... wooo that pixie was something else. He killed her too fast. I know he rushed in and had to save Liv.. but mannn I wish she would've suffered

And her partner - that asshole I knew something was weird with him. he was so damn possessive - or really obsessive with Liv. He acted like she was his even though she never really gave him any reason to think so. I was happy to see him die.

This story isn't based off a house - but is in No man's land.. and it was a really good story. There is another book that the author wrote that is coming out in a couple months and it has to do with the 3 lion shifters and I am TOTALLY getting in on that. I can't wait!

I enjoyed this book in the original line-up from the IV&V shared universe, I thought the play on the circus in no-man's land was fabulous, I could imagine the acts and creatures involved. It made for an intriguing storyline.

I accidentally skipped ahead and listened to Covet Me before listening to this one so I met some of the characters already with one of the tasks in that book. I liked getting their background and the connections with the little cameos and connections in Covet Me. I was on the fence with the Ringmaster but he definitely pulled through and became a great character to fall for. He was so protective and feral when it came to his mate once he let his feelings take root haha. He tried to keep her at arm's length because of what he is and who would be coming for him eventually, he didnt want her to get hurt in the crossfire, but he learned he can't stop their mating bond and feelings (and the chemistry was done really well!).

I loved Liv, she was such a complex character and I loved how things happened with D and how the others treated her (her besties, not the horrible mean girl of the circus though, and the lions hehe). I liked all the other characters in the circus too, the security of the circus caught my eye (and they get their own love story that I absolutely ate up!). I will say I did see the bad guy coming, but not exactly how things went down but it was a good story nonetheless. This was my first from this author but I will be checking them out more now! The tension was done really well, I do wish there was more steam but that wouldnt have fit with the other books in this first run (they amped it up in the next series with the RH relationships). I do appreciate how well the author wrote the big baddie, how they weaved the abuse and how the creature treated Liv and the others in his horrible group. I felt for Liv and really liked her. I loved the ending of this book as well!

Narration was good for me, again the narrators do a lot in the audio world and one does a better job changing up their voices for the different stories and one doesnt. I would give them solid 4s for this one, I felt the turmoil, the hurt, the strength to try and not let their mating happen. I also felt the fear from the other performers with their contracts with D and how they felt caged and the sad deaths in the circus. I thought they did a good job performing the acts too, it was easy to imagine them in my head.

Overall good story, I thought it added to the shared world and was so happy to get book in the circus that I will be reviewing shortly haha.

Welcome to the Circus

If you've been following along with the series then you might have found yourself curious about a certain circus that made an appearance first in Ignite Me and then later in Corrupt Me. Well, author Jessica Wayne has decided it was time to go to the circus in Slay Me, the ninth book in the Immortal Vices and Virtues series. I loved it, this book was a real treat for someone like me who loved a circus/carnival-themed book and Jess did a great job.

This book's couple is Liv, a fury-fae hybrid, and the Ringmaster of the circus in No Man, Dante. Liv is sort of soft. She's a nice person who generally cares but doesn't get too attached probably due to her parents abandoning her and her past with her ex. The same abusive psychotic ex who she's hiding out from, the very reason she's at the circus. Liv is a little bit of a pushover which is weird for a fury but she isn't strong in her magic so that explains. Throughout the story, she does start to get a bit of a backbone mostly because the Ringmaster knows how to push her buttons.

Dante aka the Ringmaster is full of surprises he has a dangerous secret and a complicated backstory which might be the reasons why he is a jerk ninety-nine percent of the time. I understand that he had his issues but the way he kept things from Liv and didn't want to acknowledge things got on my nerves. His only saving grace was the way he handled Liv's issues. That made up for some of it and by the end, he was a goner, Liv had him.

Jessica hit a lot of the check marks with this story. There are enemies-to-lovers, a broody alpha male, a female friendship, an array of supernaturals including a basilisk, a kitsune, a djinn, and many more, markings, murder mystery, rivals, and more. All of it is set against the backdrop of a supernatural circus. Plus if you read along with the series a few familiar faces make guest appearances. I loved it. Readers get yet another look in No Man's Land and I must admit I was very intrigued by the circus when it was in the previous books. Jess satisfied that curiosity, about a house that isn't an official house in a wild west type of area where everyone is out for themselves.

I have been wanting to check out Jessica Wayne's writing for a while, and now I have. Slay Me was a fantastic read and another great addition to the series. And after reading Slay Me I think I will be checking out some of Jessica's other books in the future.

A SOLID 3.5 STARS!

Sadly, there wasn't much dragon action despite the MMC being one. The shifter circus concept was pretty damned cool, except it wasn't well explored in the story. While I appreciate the focus on the MCs romance, it would have been greater to see what this fictional world could have offered. That being said, this wasn't the first Immortal Vices and Virtues book I've read, though it can be read as a standalone.

LIV's an aerial performer contracted by bond under Dante's circus after he rescued her from an alley where she was nearly raped. Having trusted the wrong man who manipulated, abused and used her, she's afraid of being captured again, only never sought to leave the circus in all the 2 decades she's been there. Liv's the type who blends into the background, NOT because she wasn't beautiful, but because of her quiet personality (unless she's performing). Only rare spurts of anger or strong emotions does she tend to make a scene. Her chemistry with Dante was the main reason I enjoyed the story, otherwise, I'd say I would have liked to see more of the circus ongoings, not to mention a little more history of Liv and her parentage.

DANTE's a hot ringmaster. That word itself sounds top notch. 😂😂 He's quite the controlling grump, and it's no wonder when he his mate has been living under his roof for decades and he refuses to claim her. I think Dante underestimated Liv. He never gave her the chance to choose for herself whether she wants to be HIS MATE or not. He made the decision for her, keeping her at arm's length with the excuse I don't understand at all....like...why does he think it would be bad? Anyways, he blows hot and cold, gets all growly and possessive over Liv when she's with other males but he doesn't want to do anything about it. THE ONLY REGRET I HAVE IS HOW THE AUTHOR NEVER ELABORATED OR EXPOUNDED ON THE FACT THAT DANTE'S A DRAGON!! Apart from a few scenes where he shifted, there wasn't much dragon action.

OVERALL this was a nice introduction to Jessica Wayne's works. I'm interested to read more from her and would say this was thoroughly enjoyable and easy read for a busy weekday. I wrote this days after I read the book, so my memory isn't as fresh, but it's nice especially if you enjoy the possessive alpha male and hot smexy times.

Woah! There was enough tension in that story to spark a 5 alarm fire!!

If you haven’t picked up Slay Me yet, you are missing out! This story literally kept me turning pages until my eyes gave out on me and I fell asleep reading! The characters were fantastic, the world building top-notch, and the romance scorching!! Slay Me starts off right in the middle of Livs story. She has given up years of her life to the ringmaster, a man who runs a supernatural circus, in exchange for protection from her deadly ex. Every night Liv and her partner perform on the Lyras to a captive audience, earning her a place among her fellow performers and an appeared place of favoritism with the ringmaster. But all is not as it seems, and as our story progresses we see that Livs ex isn’t quite ready to let her go. Ringmaster has plans for Liv to though and now that he owns her via her contract with the circus, he’s unwilling to let anyone take what he claims as his. Nothing will be easy between Liv and Ringmaster though as things heat up between them, things begin to catch fire around them too and in the end someone is bound to get burned. But that’s all I’ll say for the plot of this story as to avoid spoilers. What I will say is I absolutely loved these characters! I loved Liv she was just the right mixture of loving, humble, and caring while still being an absolutely badass woman who could stand on her own! And Ringmaster was just the right amount of morally grey possessive alpha to make you swoon on the spot! And I adored watching the how their relationship changed and progressed over time. It felt natural and unrushed. And when I tell you the tension between them from beginning to end was hot enough to send sparks shooting off my kindle. I am not joking!! I also loved all the action that was crammed into this book, there was never a dull moment! Fights, battles, circus performances, it’s all there fleshed out in great detail, and keeping readers deeply immersed in the story!! This is definitely one that should be on everyone’s TBR this year! You will not be disappointed!!

HAPPY READING! 📖

The Ringmaster and his Fury ♡

I'm claiming it 🙌 this is my favorite book of the Immortal Vices and Virtues world and I've read quite a lot of Jessica's books and this is by far my favourite book of hers, I love the fast paced ride of a standalone I hope she does more connected standalones in the future and I can't wait to go back to the circus when Protect Me comes out later this year.

Contracted to the Ringmaster of no man's land circus Liv works the Lyra each night for the crowds that pack the stands but it's the private performances she puts on behind closed doors for the man she despises that really send her blood soaring. Escape is not an option from the circus, those who dare to try pay with their life, no one leaves until their contract expires. They've never touched but Liv would be lying if she said she hadn't fantasized about it once or twice, but what brought her to the circus haunts her more than she cares to admit, she escaped one tormentor only to be contracted to another. The Ringmasters obsession with Liv goes far deeper than even she knows and when she finally pushes the boundaries he's set firmly in place, finding out what he truly is and what liv means to him paints a far bigger target on her back than she already has. Dante may be the notorious Ringmaster that many fear because they can sense his power but not what he truly is but he needs the circus to stay hidden just as much as his performers do, for what he is is rare in this world and if the truth was known he'd be hunted. But revealing himself may be his only option when someone is clearly trying to take Liv out and when someone almost succeeds it sends his beast spiraling with only one thought in mind. Protect what is his. Faced against an army when Livs past demons finally catch her, Dante risks everything revealing his true nature to the world but a world without her in it isn't one worth living.

Slay Me by Jessica Wayne is the ninth book released in the Immortal Vices and Virtues Universe. This is a spicy paranormal romance novel with fated mates, shifters and a fury!

The Immortal Vices and Virtues novels are standalone books, written by different authors, but they occur in the same universe. I highly recommend reading these books as a series, and in order, so that you understand some of the backstory.

Slay Me tells the story of Liv, a hybrid with barely a scerrick of magic, forced to perform in No Man's Circus. To stay 'safe' in a world of powerful supernaturals, Liv must also perform after-hours each night for the Ringmaster, where the balance between obedience, obsession and obduracy must surely tip, but she refuses to be broken.

D is an immensley powerful supernatural who has carved a place for himself in No Man's Land, where there are no rules save those made by the most dominant. He controls the supernaturals that he collects, and deals with disobendience in death. That is, until his most alluring captive defies him.

If you love enemies to lovers, fated mates, supernaturals, morally grey anti-heroes, delicious tension and all the spice, add Slay Me to your TBR on Goodreads and Amazon, as this book releases on 26th January 2023!

Soar high in the big top and fly to your release in Slay Me!

I loved this book- the delicious tension and forced proximity between Liv and the Ringmaster, the unique setting, the multi-POV. Hot damn I can't get enough of swapping between the POVs of a strong FMC with what she thinks is flaws, and a sexy powerful MMC who will only kneel for her!

☆ I received an ARC of this book from the publisher, which in no way sways my honest opinion, as stated in this review ☆

Spectacularly Twisty Romance Under the Big Top

Jessica Wayne is a one-click author for me, so I was super excited to see her participation in the Immortal Vices & Virtues World. And as always, she delivered big. Once I started this book, I could not put it down.

Slay Me takes readers to the previously mentioned No Man’s Circus, where we get to know D. and Liv. At first, I was not sure how much I liked the duo. But as a good plot and character growth can do, the more I learned and read, the more I enjoyed them. That said, I still struggled with the basis for D. and Liv’s relationship as a whole; she’s contracted to the Circus. Mix in her past and his fate-fueled obsession and it does make for a darker type of romance. No worries, Jessica Wayne’s strong storytelling and great writing carries the themes well and made for an enjoyable read.

For a peak through the curtain:

🎪Length: Novel

🎪Genre: Paranormal romance – shifters, fae, berserkers, etc.

🎪POV: First person, dual – male and female main characters

🎪Age: Adult

🎪Warnings: Language, violence (includes abuse in past), and sexual content

🎪Spice: Starts as a slow/moderate burn story that ends explosively hot – explicit loving on page

🎪Violence: Includes past trauma, torture, and some rather gory death and destruction

🎪Editing: Well done, though honestly, I was too engrossed in the story to notice any errors

🎪World: Post-supernatural-apocalypse Earth

🎪Series: Immortal Vices and Virtues (interconnected standalones in a shared universe)

🎪Tropes: Enemies-to-lovers, haunting past secrets, anti-hero, obsessive alpha-male, captive heroine, fated mates

🎪Ending: Standalone story in a growing book universe, these characters will not star again but may be spotted in others’ stories

🎪Re-read? Yup

Steamy, captor turns hero.

I loved the tension these two were throwing every time they were in the same room. Add.some murder and attempted murder, betrayal & jealousy then you have a great book! The ringmaster is a man of mystery. No one knows what type.of paranormal he is. He keeps to himself except for the late night performances he forces Liv to do after she does her routine at the circus. She has replaced the pixie who used to privately perform for him. Although she was trying to seduce him so she could leave the circus. She gets extremely jealous & to put it mildly causes.way to many problems for Liv. And messing with Liv gets you killed. That reminds me I forgot to mention that the ringmaster takes in people who need to escape whatever bad situation their in. They have to sign a contract for however many years the ringmaster decides. Liv has 12 years left. Liv has a tragic backstory. At 15 years old her parents dropped her & grandma off in No Mans Land. A month later her grandma died. Then she falls for a guy that has his agenda down pat. He says & does everything right. When Liv feels safe & starts to really feel like she loves him boom he turns into a Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde situation. And he did some sick & twisted things to her. She has no confidence or self esteem. She is terrified the same guy will kidnap her from the circus. They are allowed to go to town. Liv never does. She doesn't even hang out with the audience afterwards there is a carnival every night. She's to afraid one of Ernesto's men will be in the audience & there to take her back. I'll leave the amazing love story unfold for you. There is a lot of violence & talk of rape but not in detail.

4.5 stars! And the hits just keep on coming in the Immortal Vices and Virtues universe! I loved this unexpected, enemies to lovers romance between Liv and the Ringmaster. I really don’t want to get into any detail, because the way the story unfolds, there is a lot of mystery and intrigue that truly make it that much more interesting. Between Liv’s clearly traumatic past that she’s continuing to hide from, to the Ringmaster’s just overall mystery, and the absolutely sizzling chemistry that is between them, especially when they are alone, and despite how much he tries to suppress it, this book kept me on the edge of my seat wondering where it was going to go next. There’s also a different spin on the found family aspect, with all the No Man’s Circus performers seemingly united in their hatred for the Ringmaster, the man who controls their life and destiny with their contracts. They have a connection with each other, but there is also still a level of insecurity, where no one seems to fully trust anyone, despite their shared fates at the moment.

As Liv grows bolder and starts to question the Ringmaster more, and his defenses against her start to wane, danger lurks around the corner, and things start happening that put everyone and everything in danger, including Liv. As we learn more about the Ringmaster, he becomes more and more alluring in every way. I loved the way they finally come together, and his shift with her is incredibly hot and sweet all at the same time. Their love story is definitely unexpected, and absolutely fraught with danger, but it’s wonderful, and I really enjoyed reading as it played out on the pages.

Welcome to the circus! Where the Ringmaster controls everything, including his performers. Now if I remember correctly we have met the Ringmaster briefly before, and we do have a small crossover with the characters of a previous book in this series which is absolutely amazing.

First, we have Liv, she's already been through a lot in her past and the circus is the only place she can run from what is after her. She's a really interesting character to get to know, and I feel like she wants to see the best in people even with her troubled past, so even though the Ringmaster is basically her owner at this point she wants to think that maybe he's not all that bad.

D is the Ringmaster, as I say I'm sure we've met him previously before. He rules with a bit of an iron first. If you try and run before your contract is up he takes no issue in unaliving you. But at the same time, he also protects his people and will unalive others for them, especially Liv.

The two characters for me feel like opposites attracting, but Liv is one determined FMC and she wants to discover everything about D and where he actually comes from. I just absolutely loved this book, we got to see so much of No Man's Circus after we already discovered a little more on No Man's Land in one of the previous books as well. This series is still at the top of the list for favourite reads both this year and last! If you want to read about a whole new world, where houses are in charge, with a whole range of supernatural beings. Then honestly, this entire series is for you.

As always this is the latest in the #ImmortalVicesAndVirtues series and they’re all #Standalone so you can read them out of order but I do recommend reading them in order to catch the character crossovers and the little #EasterEgg hints

Liv and Dante

“To all those willing to step outside the norm. Welcome to the Circus.”

Liv is hiding from her former life in the no man’s land circus under the beast eye of Dante the ringmaster. We met Dante previously and briefly in Ignite Me when he offers sanctuary to Grayson and Kinsley.
Dante is the mysterious ringmaster who runs a tight ship one thing he allows himself is a private nightly performance from Liv.

This was an action packed romp! Oooft! The tension between Liv and Dante was delicious. I loved the circus family and was genuinely moved by their camaraderie and gumption. I think this is the first I’ve read by Jessica Wayne and I really enjoyed her writing style and smut, so I’ll be adding her to my followed aurora on Amazon to make sure I don’t miss anything!

🌻 Main Characters - Dante & Liv
🌻 Fated Mates
🌻 No cheating
🌻 Happy Ending
🌻 Trigger Warning ⚠️ : Erotic scenes (MF), SA, Attempted SA, Violence, Murder, and Torture
🌻 Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
🌻 Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

Liv is a half fae and half harpy, who barely has magic to conjure a light breeze. (Is her magic potential real tho? 👀) She works as a performer in No Man's Circus to hide from her crazy abusive ex. After each show, she had to do a solo performance for the Ringmaster of the circus. Unbeknownst to her, the Ringmaster is her mate. 🤭

Dante, also known as Ringmaster 0r D, is... (Wait for it 🫸🏻) a dragon shifter. He kept so many secrets, including what kind of supernatural he was, and the fact that he and Liv were mates. His character annoyed the F out of me. 😂 There were many chapters that I wanted to punch him.

What I love about this book was the scene when Liv snapped and shredded her crazy abusive ex into pieces by using her wind magic. It was so satisfying. 😌

I also love Fiona's character. She's a berserker and a performer at No Man's Circus, and she's a great friend to Liv.

This is my first book from this author, and I enjoyed this paranormal story a lot. I liked that this was more of a slow burn romance than an instant love type of story. I enjoyed the main characters Liv and Dante along with some of the side characters. The chemistry and angst between Liv and Dante were undeniable and the steamy scenes between them were HOT. They both had a past they were running from for very different reasons but running from something didn't mean they were safe. No one was safe. This story had suspense, mystery, betrayal, jealousy, friendship and love. I liked the ending, but it left me feeling as if something was missing for me regarding Dante and his dad. Liv and Dante got their HEA, but we didn't get closure with Dante and his dad since it was a huge part of why he as secretive and protective. Other than that, I have no complaints when it comes to this story, it was a good read. This is the first book I've read in this series but I'm looking forward to reading more books from this author.

I enjoyed reading this world!

I loved this world of characters, what's not to appreciate a world of shape-shifting lions, dragons, faes, witches, pixies, and other creatures? I devoured this jewel in one day. Our FMC has barely any nonexistent powers they refer to these people as Furys. Our FMC, Liv has had an awful life, her powerful parents are far and a harpy, dropping her off to the worst places known as No Man's Land and she is taking refuge with Ernesto who ends up being a very bad man with medusa powers. He abuses her and does horrible things to her. One night she escapes Ernesto only to have 3 of his men track her down, but after they have her cornered and threatened her with unspeakable things, our MMC, the Ringmaster steps in and rescues her (kind of 😜 ). He has a secret, which I will not reveal, but it's a really good juicy secret! I have said enough! I highly recommend that you read this book! It is a standalone story so no need to read the other books not unless you want to, each book is its own story!
