This vibrant and colourful book is a collection of contemporary , upbeat, uplifting and funny soundbites of compassion taken from the teachings of Buddha...one for every day of the year Whilst Buddhism is rich in religious devotion, philosophy , psychological insight and mystical experience, one of its most powerful assets is its sense of humour. The history of Buddhism abounds with amusing anecdotes, witty poems, and wry illustrations , all of which have been used over many centuries to encapsulate a spiritual message of great power. With the help of a huge cast of fascinating characters, 365 Smiles from Buddha explores the lighter side of Buddhism. It includes sayings from the Buddha himself, along with witticisms from Zen masters and lessons imparted by modern Buddhist teachers. The author adds a personal flavour to the story by including anecdotes from his days as a teacher in Bangkok, introducing us to a host of fascinating characters, pupils and spiritual teachers.
A nice collection of wit and wisdom associated with Buddhism. Nothing shocking or really deeply illuminating, but a nice book of aphorisms. I read one a day for a year.
As you would expect this is a collection of proverbs, stories and sayings. The longest of these is only a paragraph so a good 'pick up and read a few' book. Lot's of good ones in here but unfortunately I always have a hard time remembering such things.
