Groveton College

Yours Truly

Rate this book
They called me a predator, a monster, a disgraced professor—I called myself an addict.
I thought Groveton College would be a fresh start, a chance to move on from the past still haunting me. But then eighteen-year-old Winona Beckett walked into my classroom, so naïve and innocent, and I knew I was screwed.
I tried to stay away. I tried to do the right thing. I tried to control my instincts.
But I couldn't.
Instead, I found myself outside her window every night, thinking of all the depraved things I wanted to do to her.
We played a dangerous game, falling into a forbidden love I knew would end in disaster. But it was exciting, and for a while, she was mine.
Then she learned I'd betrayed her in the worst way and it shattered everything. But my obsession with her was too strong, and I could never let her leave me.
So I chased her.
In the end, what we did that night...it could never be undone.

This is a story where the line between love and obsession is blurred, and the consequences turn deadly. Our secrets can't stay hidden forever, and our past will always come back to haunt us. That night we crossed a murderous line, and there's no turning back.
We're stuck together.
Forever.

Hi, I'm Haley Tyler, a dark romance author from Texas!

I’m the one behind the gritty Salvatore Brotherhood MC series and the dark paranormal romance Calling on the Reaper. My stories are filled with characters you love to hate and plots that twist and turn when you least expect it.

I’ve been telling stories my whole life, but I officially became a published author in 2021 with my debut novel, Killing Calm (book 1 in the SBMC series!). Since then, I’ve been living and breathing my dark, twisted worlds.

When I’m not writing, you can catch me listening to Taylor Swift or heavy metal (because there’s no in-between), binge-watching the latest TV series, or diving into a good romance novel.

If you’re looking for your next dark romance obsession, you’ve found it. Welcome to my world!

The zero wasn't an alpha just a wannabe. He wasn't OTT obsessed, he was a loser simp. Even the 'twist' couldn't save whatever this jumble of incoherent masturbatory, cheating sessions were.

But it doesn't matter because this review doesn't exist and you're still not reading anything

This was one truly messed up yet freakin’ engrossing story. It’s age gap without doubt. I believe she’s 18 or 19 and he’s about 45. Or was it 48? Either way, 1-3 years here and there really doesn’t impact the wide age gap. But that’s not the disturbing part of the story. No. It would be the H, Emmett’s, predilection for barely legal girls. He’s a professor at a University. Married with no kids. He’s into hardcore kink but his wife is not which makes for a very boring sex life. His one redeeming quality is short lived and that is his attempts to fight his weakness for preying on these very young “adult” girls (I hesitate to say women). Eventually he succumbs and is later exposed leading to divorce and unemployment. Fast forward 7 years and we have a divorced Emmett working at a new university thanks to influential friends. However, he’s under a microscope and cannot screw up again. Once again he battles his predatory instincts and before you can spell recidivism he once again targets and begins to seduce Winona. He’s immediately drawn to her and even tries to fight his attraction to her but alas, Emmett’s “sickness” is beyond his control. He begins to seduce Winona and it’s not pretty. It’s mostly from Emmett’s view and you get a lot of graphic imagery and violently sexual thought processes. It’s both highly disturbing and even hate inducing (towards Emmett) as you see his predatory instincts take over. What’s also interesting is that Emmett is incredibly self-aware. He knows he’s a predator. He knows what he’s doing is wrong. But he can’t fight the impulse no more than a drug addict. It’s watching a full on train wreck knowing that Emmett is most likely going to crash and burn. Our understanding of Winona comes from Emmett’s interpretations of her looks and responses. As a reader you try to figure out how accurate he is in his readings of Winona’s actions. On one hand, he’s intelligent, intuitive and self-aware. But on the other hand he’s also bat shit crazy. Add to that that Winona is not particularly well fleshed out (we get very few of her POV) it makes for a lot of questioning. But this is Emmett’s story through and through. Oh, and there is also a plot twist towards the end that I did NOT see coming. Triggers galore.

Mind. Blown. 🤯
If you enjoy novels with darker, complex themes and morally ambiguous situations, Haley Tyler is an author worth exploring.

“Yours Truly" is far from sweet, yet everything intriguing that challenges one’s morals and piques curiosity about our own human nature.

Haley Tyler's exceptional writing skill draws you in with vivid characterizations; I found myself thinking as the MMC thinks and occasionally questioning my own reactions, a testament to the characters' depth, shaped by their complex emotions and diverse experiences.

I devoured this book & ended it with my jaw dropped in astonishment, followed by a verbal "the f*ck!?” moment at its astonishing twist.

Yours Truly releases April 8th; add it to your TBR right tf now!

I read the Trigger Warnings…. I’m a lover of dark romance. Sometimes pitch black romance. But the key word here is ROMANCE. And I feel like in an attempt to see who can write the most depraved book…. Authors forget…. There has to be some element of the romance genre in there even if the themes are dark.

A large part of the appeal of reading romance is the attraction to the fictional MMC. Or whatever your flavor is. When writing dark romance that is dark because the MMC is not a nice person …. It’s a fine line to walk. This author just didn’t do it well IMO.

Emmet is a predator of young girls. FULL STOP. So if that’s not your jam… then you too will dislike this romance. The book starts with Emmett musing about how “college aged”’girls are his weakness and he enjoys the power he has over them as their professor. He details how he’s obsessed with them and later how he loves that they can be molded. This already immediately grossed me out… but again I read the TW so I decided to continue to try.

( I expected the “grooming” and age gap TW to be as part of an obsession with one characters not a pattern of behavior because he’s just a creepy middle aged dude that just really into exclusively perving on his students)

So the book fast forwards…. He’s been caught for being a creep. (Shocking 😒) and so his wife left him and took everything. He’s practically an alcoholic, he’s teaching at a college in a different state where no-one knows what he’s done, he describes his body as lanky, and he’s living in a run down apartment drinking cheap Jack when he’s not tying himself to his bed to keep from jerking off to his latest student obsession……

WHAT ABOUT THIS IS SEXY????? WHAT ABOUT THIS IS GIVING ROMANCE???? Part of the definition of the romance genre is the need for an HEA…. ( argue with ya momma… look up what comprises a romance according to the romance writers of America.) How is this eventual couple going to have an HEA. Sure she’s the object of his desire right now while she’s probably 18 and supple. But she’s gonna get older. And I’m not talking. About an old lady. She’ll literally have aged out of his dating pool in like 3 years….. that’s a HFN. How am I supposed to believe that this sex addicted predator is just gonna switch up and now be okay with her eventually becoming a woman….

And I can’t stress this enough….. aside from the lack of a feasible HEA…. He is NOT sexy.

❌ No physical attributes to redeem him. ( Lanky is not sexy for MOST women… it’s gonna ring someone’s bell… but certainly not the majority and not when the character is already so flawed)
❌ No Money ( run down apartment and drinking cheap liquor??? Whose panties are wet for this?)
❌ Shitty partner ( He’s legitimately surprised that his ex-wife is not tryna be his friend and share recipes and ish after the divorce…… she caught you cheating with multiple of your students and watching videos that you filmed of it… WHET??? So he’s stupid too?? )
❌ Borderline pedophile. His interest is exclusive in “college aged” girls. Which really spans like 17 to 23…. And while aside from 17… all of those ages are TECHNICALLY legal…. There’s really not much difference between a 17 and 18 or 17 and 19. And while I have read large age gaps where an MC is around these ages and the others is much older… it’s always made me uncomfy but I’ve pushed through because it was a one off. Never where the older character is purposely looking for someone that he is old enough to be a parent to.

I have read books with serial unalivers, an MC that grapes the FMC in the first chapter, a book that wasn’t even a romance featuring a human trafficker and I still was kind of bummed when it looked like he wasn’t gonna get the girl…. All of these books I’ve rooted for the MMC. Despite them being flawed or downright horrible human beings. And it’s because the author managed to still make them attractive to the reader. I see this book has more than 1⭐️. So I guess Emmett is doing it for some people… but I can’t imagine him being most people’s cup of tea.

SO with all of that said… if you are into a “dark romance” featuring a lanky, sex addicted, 45 year old broke profesor as your main love interest that may or may not get a redemption arc ( I dunno I couldn’t make myself read past 10%) then… by all means pick this up.

If any of the above bothers you… then give this book a hard pass.

for my fellow, delusional, sick in the head girlies…

oh, my god—the last chapter, chapter twenty-three. oh, my fucking god. the way i did not see it coming, not in a million years. it changed everything, everyfuckingthing, for me at the eleventh hour, took yours truly from two stars to double that.

the entire time, i kept on thinking to myself, “just how insane can the last chapter really be?” after seeing the initial reviews. safe to say, i ate my words. or maybe they ate me? i don’t know, but i’m very glad that haley chose to end it that way. it really, truly was absolutely perfect. insane. i need more, haley tyler, and i need more age gap dark romance from you, i beg.

last but not least, and i really shouldn’t say this, but oh well and oh what the hell, i’m going to…winona is my spirit animal.

How can a book that is almost exclusively about sex not have the MC's have sex until 85% and only once? This was mainly a weird book about a professor edging himself and masturbating all the time....if that's your thing then have at it, but it was just kinda boring for me. Everyone is going on about the twist, but it wasn't well done, it seemed like an afterthought. There were no crumbs along the way that led to that conclusion, it was just there for shock value and makes no logical sense.

I love it when a story makes me say, “Did that just happen?” or makes me think in general to wrap my head around everything. I had to gather my thoughts and re-read the ending a few times to get things straight. I like that a lot.

Author Haley Tyler brings dark romance readers an “irredeemable hero” in her latest story. It had me thinking, should I like this guy or not? “Yours Truly” is dark but filled with such a captivating story that had my feelings all over the map. It’s not your typical professor/student forbidden tale. Take heed of the TW/CWs; there are many. The story seamlessly ties together nicely in a, yes, that indeed just happened kind of way, and I’m here for it.

if u don’t like xtra long reviews pls skip xo

whn the dedication said tht emmett was toxic i didnt rly know how toxic haley meant. his actions, HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE AT TIMES, well throughout most of the book & THE LIP GLOSS pls! but this man not only needs therapy, he needs weekly interventions, God & possibly jail time jus to isolate him from the female gender. but thts jus my personal opinion x

BUT there’s jus no words to describe how much i enjoyed this book tho, like uno whn u jus genuinely love a book n ur speechless. thts me rn😭

BUT ANYWHO y’all i kid u not, this book had me cackling n giggling n shit. this man jus screams idgaf, i’ll do wht i want. n he’s also the definition of a red flag & i’m here for it despite how many WTF moments there were🤭

after being caught in many scandals w his students dare i say, BY HIS WIFE🫠. our mc emmett uprooted himself across the country to texas to start afresh at a new college as his previous life fell apart. although tht doesn’t last long as he sets his eyes on winona ON THE FIRST DAY, like cmon emmett we were rooting 4 u. like at least wait a week b4 ur obsessed😭

one thing i will say is tht emmett is a deep n understanding man. he’s thoughtful, (although for the majority of his life he thought w his dick) and he’s caring. he’s compassionate, n hot n slightly mentally ill. but as bad as emmett was I WANT HIM. & he’s got a dirty mouth n he’s jus ugh, somethings wrong w me clearly🧎🏽‍♀️.

this book is filled w real dark, dirty & depraved thoughts & actions of a single man who is toxic asf n can’t seem to keep his hands to himself. let’s not forget he was also obsessed asf. n i loved it. n i love him. n i loved the book & i was rooting 4 him the entire time.

& lemme not forget ab winona. to not say too much but she’s the perfect match 4 emmett. 🤭

Favorite of 2024

Favorite read of 2024 so far. This was not just brilliantly written, but incredibly entertaining. I loved being in the mind of obsessive, deranged MMC and not knowing what twisted thing he’d pull next. Of course, it was hot, extremely so, but more than that was the dark desires and delusions that he was deep into. Fast paced. Gorgeous descriptions. Filthy. Intense. Suspenseful. And Twisted. Absolutely *everything* I want in a book.

First of all, WOW!!!
This book was a wild ride!
Haley's writing is exceptional. The character development is steady. We see all the bits and pieces that we need to form our own idea of where things are going, but trust me - you don't know where it's going!!
Emmett is darkness embodied. He's a true predator. He's lost his job & wife because of his addiction to co-eds. Starting over in a new city, he sees his newest victim...
Winnie is a sweet college girl. She is innocent and vulnerable. She lost her parents as a young teen & has been ridiculed/bullied by her peers.
She's certainly no match for her new professor.
I won't give away any surprises, but there's a HUGE twist that I didn’t see coming!!
Read this if you like spicy, dark & twisted!

I am DEEEAAD. This book! Haley brought the dark spice to life! Emmett is a total irredeemable dck and I love him. Winnie has so much to her that you can’t help but want to put her in your pocket and protect her. From the wild trigger list to the insane ending paragraph, you don’t want to stop reading. What a wild ride this is and it’s absolutely amazing from start to finish!

Spice is 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

The type of spice in this book maybe be triggering for please consult the content and trigger warning FIRST.

Emmett is all 🚩 I mean no redemption. Winnie is a innocent student (maybe maybe not who know)

I’m just at a lost for words how to describe this while still being in a state OF UTTER SHOCK. I did not see that ending coming from a mile away. The plot is very simple and to the point you can’t go wrong with it.

All I have to say is read it and you’ll see. It’s less than 300 pages and a pretty easy read. The book is mostly from the MMC POV, I’m more of a dual POV kind of gal.

This is definitely a good in between read when you want something quick between series.

Dark, psychologically intriguing, must read!!

As I am currently reading I will write my thoughts down.
Yours Truly is a book to always remember. This is definitely a different kind of twisted that I'm all for because I'm a sucker for darker anything that is psychologically intriguing when it comes to my books and this one, oh this one I fell into the genius-darkened-madness of Haley Tyler's mind once again because Professor Emmett reminded me of another darkened but delicious read of hers.
If you love anything professor and student meets one sided POV with a psychological thrill on your end. This is a read for you and as bias as this may sound but anything that comes from Haley is a must read and I mean that with every fiber of my existence because her mind and her worlds have a enchanting effect that makes you fall into a love spell. Without giving anything away about Yours Truly just know you will not want to put this book baby down and for those that do read please let me know who Emmett reminds you of from previous
(a) book(s) from Haley and what you think of Miss Winnie?
I wrote the above when the words were freshly there. I will say this is an intense read and one that definitely is dark and will definitely make you feel a lot of emotions that will be different for some readers but within the world of professor Emmett you will question a lot with the. I won't say and Winnie, oh Winnie!!
Haley, thank you for letting us readers (I am not trying to speak for others but I feel weird just saying myself) into your beautiful and definitely with this one dark mind of yours. You are a goddess and you help many including myself get to escape and find my own inner salvation into the madness the outside world brings. To be able to escape within the words written and worlds created, thank you!!

Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

I went into this knowing full well what it contained - Tyler was very clear in her promotion of the book just what was within these pages. I was utterly captivated by this story. I could not put it down once I started, because I was so invested in Emmett and Winnie's story, as dark and twisted as it was.

This is definitely a book to heed TWs for - there are a lot - but at the same time, if you have no- to minimal triggers, go in blind because I feel that will enhance the experience for you. This is a morally grey MMC that - to some - borders on the edge of black, depending how dark you like your leading men.

This is told solely from Emmett's POV. A professor who's made the move to Groveton College after being fired from his old position due to inappropriate relations with students. Does that stop him repeating the same mistakes at Groveton? Well, if you're picking up this dark book, then you know it doesn't.

This is dark, dirty and depraved; full of delicious spice and moments that have you questioning whether you're turned on, grossed out, or that weird combination of the two. In saying that, this is not the darkest nor most depraved book I've read. Emmett definitely pushes the boundaries, and I love that we're entirely in his head for the book. I feel it gives a different perspective on the forbidden relationship, as well as the almost sadistic nature of his desire for Winnie.

This book is definitely full of twists that keep you on your toes throughout the narrative. But the twist at the end? I'm honestly still reeling from it. Another absolutely phenomenal read from Tyler.

Where to begin?! Bear with me.

I’m stuck between a 3/4 star rating, but I’ll round up for a few reasons:
𝟏. I think the twisted, obsessive professor vs innocent, naive student trope was executed perfectly! I really loved living in the mind of Emmett. He’s a sick, psychotic, narcissist…and I loved it. It was very interesting to have his POV throughout the novel.
𝟐. The spice was spicin’!!! A lot of the spicy scenes started with lots of tension/“we shouldn’t be doing this” between the characters (which I love).
𝟑. The twist at the end!! Definitely did not see that coming??? And didn’t even think there’d be one lol

Some issues I had:
𝟏. I felt like Winnie was so immature?? I don’t know, she was giving me high school freshman vibes 𝙉𝙊𝙏 college student vibes.
𝟐. A couple scenes/scenarios were far fetched. It made the life-like story feel unrealistic at times, which kind of killed the vibe.
𝟑. As much as I loved the twist, I can’t help but question it. Like…why didn’t Winnie just kill Connor herself or simply leave him? Why did she 𝙃𝘼𝙑𝙀 to have Emmett do it/help? She stalked him to “save” her…but couldn’t she just have saved herself? I mean she basically did, just in the presence of Emmett…and what are the odds she finds which school he teaches at, joins his class, and gets him to fall for her like she wanted? 🤔

Overall, this was a unique/quick read, and definitely an entertaining one! Check out TWs before reading - this entire novel involves a very toxic relationship.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

What to Expect
• College Romance
• Student/Professor
• Age-Gap
• Slight Stalking
• Insta-Obession
• Damsel in Distress
• Touch her and die

"That was the paradox of being a predator. We blended in seamlessly, working regular jobs and having loving families. We were trustworthy and kind, not creeps who prowled alleys or parking garages after dark. People would even say things like, "No, not him. He couldn't possibly do something like that." But that was exactly what made us so dangerous—we didn't fit the stereotype. And by the time you realized you were caught in our perfectly crafted trap, it was already too late."
This is favorite quote of the book btw

Haley does not disappoint, I loved everything in this book and yeah I read the tropes and I still was not prepared for Emmett, he was not what I was expecting he's slightly unhinged okay maybe a little more than slightly but I couldn't help but love him and Winona was the sweetest little thing, and I loved seeing her let loose when she was around Emmett and the way she'd come alive when he pushed her passed her comfort zones, opposite in every way you know what they Opposites attract.
While the plot, the twist and turns, and the characters were amazing nothing and I repeat nothing was better than the ending because shocked is and understatement, my jaw is still not off the floor and I definitely have more questions than answers because What the actual fudge. Haley Girl you did that.....AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

"But that was the thing about predators. You never knew who they were, and by the time you did, it was too late."... ...

This is not a romance. It's a tale of obsession between a professor and his student, which leads to a toxic relationship.

(Age Gap - Hero is 45yrs, Heroine 18yrs)

The last chapter definitely bumped up my rating. 😈

Single POV from Emmett
The very last Chapter provides us with Winnie's POV.

Worth checking out this book? Definitely !!!

I recommend checking the Trigger Warning List. (See below list)

WOW. Haley has done it again.

The best way I can describe this book? U N H I N G E D. And I don't mean that lightly. If there was ever a book you were going to read the TW on, this should be it! Emmett is absolutely insane, out of control, and half the book you are fighting with yourself back and forth on whether or not you even like the guy. He is irredeemable and morally black, nothing grey about him, but thats what makes him so entertaining and hot to read about! As far as Winnie goes? She really is the sweet, innocent girl that her dear old professor has no idea what just hit him when she walked in. Although we don't hear from Winnie with this Single POV story, you can't help but feel for the girl from what we see through Emmetts eyes.

The spice in this will have you doing the "Do I think this is hot? *inserts smirk* yes, I do" thought process. It is so HOT and again so UNHINGED your mouth will be on the floor.

This book is super twisty and dark and will keep you on your toes all the way to "The End." I hope you are ready because class is about to start and Emmett is waiting (;

EXCUSE ME WHILE I GO AND QUESTION MY LIFE, because holy shit that book was something. Normally when I see "toxic" as one of the tropes of a dark romance book, I'm like "Welp, I'm putting on my green-tinted glasses and leaving my morals by the door" but this book was not like that, I couldn't leave my morals by the door and love Emmett Ashford, because I'm like that I can like or even love an MMC no matter how irredeemable but when it came to yours truly, it was impossible. As someone who was manipulated into a relationship with a teacher who was double my age, there was definitely a teeny bit of resentment there. Still, my mind open I dived into this book and I definitely didn't hate it.

There was one thing I wished was different and that was the fact that it was one POV only and that was Emmett's but we got to that epilogue and to say I was shocked would be an understatement, you'll understand when you read it but all I'm saying is I support both women's rights and their wrongs and I'm not ashamed of it.

Thank you for the ARC, Haley!

“But that was the thing about predators. You never knew who they were, and by the time you did, it was too late.”

Disgraced. Outcast. Exiled. Emmett made choices and now he’s paying for them. Doing what he can to not fall down that path again. Withholding. Concealing. Rejecting his true nature.

A new beginning. A clean stale where nobody knows the real professor. Hopefully a fresh start. But the minute Winnie walks through his door..
all bets are off.

Whew. This one was fun. Dark. Depraved. Dirty. When the switch flips, it’s on. LOVE the twist at the end. Never saw it coming. He really met his match. Would love to take a look into the future for these two because I can only imagine!!

“Offering anything to the devil is dangerous indeed.”

"You matter, Winnie. Your words, your thoughts, your pain—it all matters."

“Love doesn’t always end in tragedy. But even if it did, it’s the person we choose to love who makes it worth it.”

I had the privilege of receiving an ARC exclusively from author Haley Tyler and The good girl PR for the book 'yours truly', and I want to thank them for this opportunity.

At first, I thought it was simply a forbidden romance between a professor and his student, with only the professor's point of view. I was a bit disappointed not to have the student's perspective, but the book was so well-written that I was captivated and always eager to know what would happen next.

I pulled an all-nighter to reach the last chapter, where we finally get the other character's (Winnie) point of view, and there, I was completely shocked. I was speechless at how things unfolded. I even went back to the first chapters to reread them and try to truly understand.

Big Up to Haley for this brilliant writing. I really loved this book and can't wait to read her other works.

Thanks again for this opportunity.

Book hangover. I told a friend about reading this, and she asked what I thought, and I just kept tripping over words, not able to find the right ones. Because it was so wonderfully depraved and unhinged.

This brings toxic relationship to a whole new level. If you've read Man Possessed by Haley and that Kiwi and Kennedy were toxic, you haven't read anything yet.

He is obsessed, possessive, and so filthy but in the best unhinged way.

I thought it would go one of few ways, and I wanted to skip to just read the last page to see. But god damn I am happy I didn't. That last chapter had me rethinking the whole book. I want to reread it, and I want/need more of them.

I could talk about this book a lot, like a lot, A LOT.
Someone else read it, so I can talk to you about it, please.

I was 100000% unprepared for this book. 🤯
This story follows terribly toxic Emmett and his college student Winnie. He is immediately infatuated with her and the things he’s does for her are borderline insane, and I ATE IT UP. I refused to put this book down until I was finished. It’s taboo, it’s toxic, it’s spicy, it’s a wild ride. You think you know where this story is going then BAM.. no you don’t. I literally can not stop thinking about that ending. I might always be.

If you’re a reader of dark romance with a love/hate relationship with completely unhinged, slightly psychotic MMC’s who only have a soft spot for our FMC, this book is for you. If you aren’t a dark romance reader, this is probably not the place for you to start. 😂

As always, please read all trigger warnings as this book does have heavy topics.

Let me tell you, this book was EVERYTHING you need. Emmett and Winnie are a whole other level of dark and depraved.

Banished from his previous school for inappropriate relationships with his students, and brassic from a divorce living in a hellhole apartment, Emmett is determined not to touch a student again. Going to extreme lengths to be able to dispel those urges, he lays his eyes on Winnie. A meek, insecure, student, consistently hiding in the back of his class, he becomes obsessed with making her his.

After multiple encounters, violent and non-violent, Winnie begins to lower her guard and give Emmett a chance, but all is not as it seems.

This toxic, tantalizing story, full of twists and turns, the final one will have your jaw on the floor and you’ll need help to pick it back up again.

I will forever love the mind of Haley Tyler.
