The Good Doctor

Rate this book
I finally have everything I’ve ever wanted: a career saving lives, my dream home among the pines, and my caring fiancé, Elton. He doesn’t know about my past. And I’ll do anything to keep it that way…

I’m so excited for my life with Elton—we’ve even discussed which room would make the perfect nursery. And we’re working together in our new jobs in the ICU at Portland General hospital.

But when I walk in on my first day, I see my ex-husband Jameson. His familiar broad shoulders are unmistakable in his white doctor’s coat. The shock knocks the air from my lungs.

I’m thrown back to the moment Jameson and I gathered around that hospital bed as the steady beeping on the monitor slowed.

We did something unforgivable that day.
And for the first time, I saw who Jameson truly was.
The truth scared me more than I can explain.
So I ran.

If Jameson tells Elton what I did, I’ll lose everything. Will he destroy my new, perfect life? Is he still a danger to the innocent patients all around us? And how far will I have to go to stop him?

The Good Doctor is a totally twisty, rollercoaster ride of a psychological thriller that will have you glued to the pages late into the night. Fans of Freida McFadden, My Lovely Wife and The Couple Next Door will love it!

There was a lot to like in this book. The premise in itself was promising; A medical serial killer, disguising as a helper only wanting to relieve pain. I knew little about serial killers like that, so it was refreshing to learn more about it. Although you know there probably is a killer, you keep wondering if you have gotten it all wrong. The author manages to send you on a wild goose chase time and time again. There are two POVs, and the development in their theories are fun to follow. Sometimes i felt the ambivalence already had been described and the suspicions were repeated too often, but that was just a minor hurdle. I think the editing could have been more thorough in the beginning. An example: someday I want to have a family, and the same sentiment is repeated just one paragraph later and then AGAIN just some sentences later. Things like that disturbs the flow, but luckily it got better.

The suspense increased steadfastly, and I was surprised several times.

All in all an enjoyable thriller, that would have gotten more stars from me by more editing.

Thanks to netgalley and bookatoure for the arc in exchange for my honest review

The Good Doctor follows Chloe Woods, who has everything she ever wanted - a caring fiancé, a dream home and her dream job. And most importantly, her fiancé doesn’t know about what she did in the past. But when on the first day of her job she comes face-to-face with that past, she must do everything to save her new life and others around her…

𝑴𝒚 𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔
To start with, this is an amazing mystery/thriller that kept me hooked till the end. The amount of craziness in this one is incredible😍 I would say the TWs were not helpful, they reduced the thrill of the mystery but that changed as I dived deeper into the mysterious life of Chloe Woods.

The dual POVs - Chloe and Jameson’s made the plot veryy engaging and interesting. As we move forward, the chaos in Chloe’s life kept me wondering what is going on… 🤔 I mean, I couldn’t trust anyone. Was Jameson good or bad? Is Chloe really the victim here? There were so many questions in my mind and I wanted answers to them all🫣🤫

I will say, I loved the profound relationship development. It was lovely to see how much depth there was and that aspect was captivating.. And the way, a controversial topic was addressed weaving a psychological thriller around it and at the same time bringing awareness to it was amazingg!👏🏼

The focus on the romance angle, though wonderful, overpowered the mystery/suspense part making the plot a bit disorienting. But do I love the romance in this one? Yes, I do! Because Jameson was swoon-worthy, even if morally-gray😉

And, the plot became predictable pretty soon and I feel unnecessary distraction was added via the romance😕 Other than that, this is a delightful and captivating read with too much going on.. you’ll never trust anyone😳

𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏
Overall, this was a slow-paced captivating mystery/suspense that will keep you hooked till the end. With its chaotic plot and interesting sequence of events, this book was an entertaining read, despite being predictable.

P.S. This is what happens when you listen to too many true crime podcasts, Chloe😅

3.5 stars. Grey’s Anatomy, but with murder.

Chloe, a newly-qualified nurse practitioner, eagerly embarks on a fresh chapter of her life, filled with excitement as she embraces a new job, a new house, and a new city alongside her loving fiancé, Elton. However, her journey takes an unexpected turn when, on her very first day at work, she discovers that she must face her past head-on—working alongside none other than her ex-husband, a person with whom she shares a hauntingly dark secret that threatens to unravel her perfect new life.

This was a well-written medical thriller. I enjoyed the authenticity of author Jessica Payne’s medical expertise: she is an RN, which really shines through in this book, whether it’s human anatomy, pharmaceutical knowledge or hospital procedures.

However, while the plot held my attention from beginning to end, I must admit that I accurately anticipated the major reveal within the first few chapters. I believe that most astute suspense and thriller genre fans will too. Despite that, I still appreciated the story. It is an easy-to-read, engaging page-turner of a book that I have no hesitation in recommending.

My thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and author Jessica Payne for the opportunity to read this work, which will be published on the 14th of June, 2023. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

** Happy Publication Day **

I have mixed feelings about this medical thriller.

On the one hand, if I could give this 5 stars for the voluntary assisted dying (VAD) rep alone, I would. If I was rating it solely based on the FMC, predictability and one trope in particular, well it'd be less stars. I'll land on 3.5 rounded to 4.

I enjoyed the journey (check TWs) and found it hard to put down from about 50% onwards - very intriguing and full of suspense. Some interesting info on medical serial killers appears throughout and that was great too.

Before approximately 50%, it was a bit slow and repetitive. My main gripe with this book though is the stupidity of the FMC and the fact that if she was just a bit intelligent, a lot of the juicy parts of the story wouldn't have worked. If I mention my second gripe re: a trope, it'll be a spoiler so 🤐.

I would recommend this to thriller readers, particularly if you're interested in medical serial killer stories but would not recommend it to people who are opposed to people having the choice to use VAD. I think that the author did an outstanding job of this controversial topic, and conveyed the emotions well based on my experiences.

Anticipated publication date: 14 June 2023

⚠️ The author has included TWs at the start of her book (again, I love this!) ⚠️

Thanks to Netgalley, the author and Bookouture for my eARC in exchange for my honest review.

History with a Mystery

Chloe, a nurse, eagerly start a new job adventure in an unfamiliar city alongside her fiancé Elton. Her excitement takes an unexpected turn when on her first day, she discovers that her ex-husband Jameson, a doctor, also works at the same place. To make matters more complicated, she is assigned to work closely with him.

The unfolding of this story is brimming with unforeseen twists that left me utterly astounded! I adore when a book cleverly surprises and shocks me, while still maintaining a logical and cohesive narrative. The masterful implementation of dual points of view allows us to delve into the intricacies of a complex relationship and the aftermath of a separation. Each layer is meticulously revealed as the book progresses, creating a truly captivating reading experience. This is definitely a must-have addition for your TBR shelf!

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Grey’s Anatomy with murder? Oh yes please!! 🙋‍♀️Except… this is WAY better than Grey’s Anatomy! Just saying 🤷‍♀️

Being an ER nurse 🏥 this book resonated so much with me!! Well except the little detail of a serial killer…😬😳 😂 If you are non medical… you are going to love this book… If you are medical… you are going to really freaking love this book!! 😍 🩺 💉 💊

When Chole starts over in a new city… everything is new and fresh… a new hospital… a new position as a Nurse Practitioner… and a new man in her life… life is so good.. 🙂… UNTIL it’s not… her ex husband is here… WTFFFF?? 😳😳😳 WHY is he here? My head was spinning… he has to be stalking her!! Known as Doctor Death ☠️.. Jameson is not one to NOT take seriously. Get out Chloe!! Run girl !! 🏃‍♀️ Of course in thriller fashion… she didn’t..😂…but I am glad she didn’t because it made for one hell of a page turner!! 😳🤯🤯

Twisted… addictive… original… I couldn’t put it down!!! This is my third book by @jessicapayne.writer and I have binged every single one!! 😍 I seriously can’t recommend her books enough!! 5 suspense filled stars!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you so much to @thrillerbookloverpromotions @jessicapayne and @bookouture for my gorgeous gifted copy!

Strangely, this book got so many good reviews and I am going to write a bad one, but I didn't like the book.

In general, I like medical thrillers and suspense and there are a lot of new books about serial medical killers that are very good and intense. A month before this book I read The Doctor by Annie Payn and enjoyed it very much.

In my opinion, the storyline of this book is very much diluted with a lot of repeatings and emotions.
Cloe is starting a new job as a nurse practitioner and has to work with her ex-husband who she left thinking that he is a serial killer. She is going to marry a new guy who is a nurse himself and cannot decide who she loves.

Most of the book is exactly about it: who does she love more? And it is going on and on about her feelings. Does she do real research about who is the killer? No. She is guessing that can be her ex-husband, his sister, her fiancee, or somebody else.

So much description of her feelings can be good for a romance book, but I bought this book as a thriller, not a romance.

This is why I gave this book only 2 stars.

Chloe & fiance, Elton, move together to Portland for nursing jobs in the same hospital. It just so happens that her ex husband, Jameson, is a doctor on staff there. It's been a few years since she left him a note saying they were over. Will they be able to work together again when they each hold secrets about their past?

A high number of patients are dying soon after they've signed a DNR. Could there be a serial killer on the loose or are these deaths just a coincidence?

Love me a nice medical serial killer thriller and this one fits the bill. The conclusion is not shocking really, but it's super fast paced, engaging and well written. Give this author a try if you haven't already.

Side note ~ I found it odd that Chloe changed her last name before they were married.

I was able to listen to a copy as well.

A medical serial killer??? Tell me more!!

Jessica Payne is absolutely an auto read author for me. 3 fantastic, twisty and dark thrillers that I have just loved so much. The Good Doctor was billed as Greys Anatomy with murder, how could anyone pass that up? Patients keep dying around Chloe’s ex husband, Jameson. She needs to do something, but he knows what she did too. How is she going to stop him and stay out of prison?

This is one crazy thrill ride right until the end. While I have an inkling of how it was going to end, it did not take away my enjoyment one bit. I binged this in less than 24 hours was kinda sad when it was over.

If you haven’t read this author you’re seriously missing out. The Good Doctor is published on June 14th. Big thanks to Bookouture and Thriller Book Promotions for my advanced copy to read. Do yourself a favour and get this in your TBR

I loved this one. Utterly compulsive (I expect no less from Jessica Payne) and constant twists to keep you reading at any available opportunity!
Some of the scenes literally made me gasp, they were suspenseful, dramatic and shocking.
I did suspect some of the ending, but it hasn't detracted from the level of entertainment this book provided me. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm already looking forward to the next book!

Someone once said, “Today I am what I am because of my yesterday’s choices. And where I shall be tomorrow will be decided today.”

This aptly applies to Chloe, in more ways than one!

Looking for new beginnings, Chloe Woods and her fiance, Elton, leave Seattle in the dust and head to Portland General Hospital. Elton, a 13-year veteran as an ICU nurse, is looking for a change and Chloe has just completed her Nurse practitioner degree and is eager to take what she’s learned and apply it. Again, in more than one way! You can imagine Chloe’s shock when she arrives at work on the first day and discovers that her ex-husband has also relocated to the same hospital! Coincidence? Her fears increase when some patients suddenly pass away.

In addition to the time-hopping, I really had trust issues for the first little bit. I didn’t know if Jameson was really looking out for Chloe or if there was something sinister going on; there was so much push and pull between them. In fact, the whole triangle ‘thing’ between the characters was suspect and done really well. I didn’t know if their job placements really were coincidental or if it was planned. There were so many questions (in a good way) and I had to keep reading to find out the truth. I appreciated the exploration of the relationships between healthcare workers and how nurse practitioners are sometimes treated by those in their field as well as those they pledged to care for.

“We’re nurses. Our job is to save people.”

These worlds will come back to haunt someone.

This is a fantastic, thought-provoking, fast-paced, twisty thriller that had me guessing at every turn.

The author's career as a neonatal nurse practitioner definitely provided authenticity for this story.

I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

THE GOOD DOCTOR is a mystery/ psychological thriller by Jessica Payne. Having read and liked her previous two novels, I was anxious to start this novel.

Her Novels Include:
Make Me Disappear (2022)
The Lucky One (2022)
The Good Doctor (2023)

This is my review of The Good Doctor.

“SHE NEVER SHOULD HAVE TRUSTED HIM…”

Chloe and her fiancé, Elton Woods make a cross-country move to start a new life together…a dream home and both new jobs in the ICU at Portland General hospital.

Chloe a certified nurse practitioner, helping people stay alive and live better. This involves having her own patients, writing prescriptions but not performing surgery.

But when Chloe walks in on the first day of her new job, she is shocked to see her ex, Dr. Jameson Smith, who should be in Seattle and not Portland... the reason she fled Seattle and started over. She hasn’t seen him in tree years after she left him, and disappeared from his life.

“She made it clear what he’d done_ what they had done was far to traumatic for her to ever speak to him again.”

Elton doesn’t know about her past…and she plans to keep it that way.

If Jameson tells Elton what she did, she could lose everything. Is her ex still a danger to the innocent patients all around them? How can she stop him?

The Good Doctor is a totally twisty, psychological thriller that will have you glued to the pages late into the night.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Net Galley for my digital copy.

Jessica Payne has done it yet again! Another thriller that had me glued to the pages and desperate to find out the truth. While I did figure the twist out pretty early on, the suspense still had me on the edge of my seat and fearful of what would happen. I also love that this author has a medical background and was able to write realistic scenes, this just added to my love for this book. The characters were easy to connect to and the “love triangle” added to the drama and kept the reader in suspense in so many ways. A great medical drama and thriller with a serial killer thrown in as well, worth every second spent reading this one! 4.5 out of 5 stars, rounding up to 5 on goodreads.

A huge thank you to NetGalley, Jessica Payne, and Bookouture for providing me with this gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was a really good medical thriller. I enjoyed it throughout and thought it was really suspenseful. Chloe is happy with her new fiance Elton. She is a nurse and is starting a new job at the hospital. On her first day, she is surprised to see her ex-husband Jameson who is a Dr there. He is one person who could destroy everything she has if he tells Elton what happened to a patient of hers and Jameson's in their care. Jameson has always had high patient mortality. How can this be? Is he killing his own patients? Chloe left him, she had to get away. What will Chloe do now to protect herself and her future? This was really twisty and I enjoyed the ride.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own. Out now!

Chloe is our first-person narrator and protagonist. She’s a traveling nurse who just got her doctorate and has become a nurse practitioner. Though originally from Seattle, she and her fiancé, Elton, make roots in Portland. Chloe got offered a great job at a hospital there, working in the ICU.

When she starts her first day at the hospital, her heart sinks when she sees her ex-husband, Dr. Jameson Smith. Dr. Smith also goes by the name “Dr. Death”, as he is one of the few doctors in the area who provides legal euthanasia services. He believes people should die with dignity, but Chloe has personally seen him at work, and doesn’t think he’s doing this for compassionate reasons. Now she is forced to work alongside him.

One night, while watching a show about medical serial killers, she realizes that it all made sense - she left Jameson with only a note after seeing his work firsthand, convinced something about it was wrong. Now more patients than usual are dying in the ICU they work at. Was she married to a serial killer? What will her new fiancé do if he knew she was present for even one of these procedures? Will she be risking her life trying to find out?

This was a super speedy book about a topic that isn’t discussed as much as it should be: the right to assisted suicide in terminal cases. I like that the author tackled that topic, all while producing a page-turning psychological thriller. The ending was pretty predictable, but it was still entertaining to see it unravel. This is a quick read that most any thriller lover will enjoy! Four stars.

(Thank you to Bookouture, Jessica Payne, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on June 14, 2023.)

I love medical thrillers and The Good Doctor checked all the boxes.

Chloe is a nurse practitioner who has been doing traveling nursing with her fiancé for the last several years. When they decide to settle down, Chloe is shocked her ex-husband is her attending physician at her new hospital. Alternating between the past and present, we learn why Chloe and Jameson split and about how death seems to follow Jameson wherever he goes.

There were so many times during this book that I wanted to grab Chloe by the shoulders and yell at her to “wake up” and to “open your eyes!” I didn’t always like her but her story captivated me and I couldn’t get enough.

Payne does an awesome job developing the characters and weaving a complex plot. I loved the use of multiple narrators and timelines. We learned so much backstory and really got involved in the characters’ lives.

I bet some of the twists will really surprise many readers and they were definitely well executed. I had some inklings about things from early on but it was super fun to see everything play out and I was constantly questioning myself.

This one was great. I absolutely recommend and can’t wait to read more by Payne!

A mystery, medical, and Psychological thriller!!! This book has everything that I love combined into one. Please be sure to check thy trigger warnings. The Good Doctor by Jessica Payne had me hooked from the get go. It's a bit of a slow burn at first but hallways through it really starts moving. Chloe is a newly nurse practioner starting out with fresh beginnings with a new place, new job and even a new husband, so imagine her surprise when she walks in her new job and sees her ex-husband. Think of this book as a medical TV drama but with murder. I thought about giving this 5 stars but rounded down because early on, I figured it the ending but it was still a phenomenal book.

The Good Doctor is the third book by Jessica Payne and I've enjoyed them all. The Good Doctors is a Grey's Anatomy style medical thriller which keeps you on your toes from the start.

A great start to the book with Chloe who has just qualified as a nurse practitioner and having a fresh start having left her past behind. She is starting her new job at Portland General Hospital in the ICU and has recentlt moved into her new home with her fiancé Elton. They are due to get married shortly. It all seems too good to be true, and then she finds out that she's working with her ex husband, Jameson. Not only that, but patients around her start to die and she's back in the turmoil of her previous life.

This is a real page turner and has some very interesting characters and storyline, with some short sharp chapters which help to keep you engaged. The book jumps between the past and present and from the point of view of Chloe and Jameson and this style of writing really helps to build the tension and keeps the pace and the intensity of the storyline moving along.

I have to say, I did guess the ending but it didn't take away from the book as needed to know if I was right and how it worked. I can easily imagine this being made into a movie and I enjoyed the hospital location and its creepier floors where Chloe and Jameson's office is situated..

The only thing that put me off a little was the characters' need to drink quite a lot from time to time, usually wine/bourbon and then go off and drive home, without considering whether it was safe to drive.

A big thanks to Bookoutre and Netgalley for an advance copy of the book to revie. Another hit for Jessica Payne and I look forward to reading lots more by this author.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the copy of The Good Doctor by Jessica Payne. The last few books I read didn't really grab me so I was excited to get a copy of a book by an author whose books I have read and loved. Who better to write about intrigue in a hospital setting than an RN? You won’t know who to believe or trust in this well-written story that addresses a heavy topic. The characters were so well-defined they came to life on the pages.Make sure you preorder this one now so you get it as soon as you can. You won’t be disappointed.

Chloe is a nurse practitioner, and she's starting a whole new life: new husband, new place, new house, new car, new job. Unfortunately, this new start is abruptly disturbed by a dark cloud: not only does her ex husband live in the same state, and work at the same hospital, but he's the doctor she'll be working with day in and day out. What's worse, together, they hold a secret from their past life. And that secret haunts Chloe, especially as it becomes cleat that her working with her ex was no coincidence.

This was a twisty thriller with so much tension and suspense. It teeters between medical thriller and something much, much darker. Dr. Death. A cross mix of Jack Kevorkian and Charles Cullen. Only one con: I knew who the culprit was from the first 12%.

Exciting medical mystery that deals with a medical professional that just might be killing patients. Medical thrillers are always my jam, and this one was a fun read from beginning to end. Told in two viewpoints, it's the story of Chloe, a nurse practitioner who has just moved to Portland to start a new job along with her fiancé Elton. Chloe is excited about her new job until she finds out she will be working with her ex-husband Jameson. Jameson is an emergency room doctor who previously worked in Seattle with Chloe and she is shocked to see him at her new job. Jameson is also a doctor who helps patients commit legal suicide when they are in too much pain or too sick to continue living, and the author does a good job with explaining how this works in states where it is legal. Chloe got used to the jokes calling her husband "Dr. Death", until some patients in the hospital started dying and something else happened which caused the end of their marriage.

In the new hospital and position, Chloe is trying to keep a business relationship with Jameson and is shocked when it seems that there are unexplained deaths in this hospital too. Doctor/nurse killers are always scary to me because they are with people who are at their most vulnerable. While Chloe suspects Jameson, Jameson has secrets and information that Chloe doesn't have and most of all, he wants her back. Besides Chloe, Jameson and Elton, the other character is Jameson's twin sister Laura. I loved the cat and. mouse nature of the story and felt a lot of fear as Chloe thought she was being followed, and as new patients seem to be in danger. The author herself is an RN, which leads a level of expertise to the medical jargon and I can't wait to read further books from Jessica Payne. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ARC in exchange for a review.

Will he destroy my new, perfect life? Is he still a danger to the innocent patients all around us? And how far will I have to go to stop him?

My Thoughts: This was an excellent read. This gripping, compelling psychological thriller will keep you on your toes! A very interesting premise, not one that I have read before. I have read all of Payne’s books and she has a way of storytelling that will captivate you and keeps the twists coming. Chloe left the traveling nurse scene when she met her fiancé, Elton, and settled in Portland, leaving Seattle and all of the deep buried secrets. When she begins her new job, she soon realizes that the secrets might get exposed when her ex-husband, Jameson, is her direct boss. Will the secrets get exposed?

The story is narrated in a dual POV by Chloe and Jameson with flashbacks from the past. The characters are morally grey, to the extent that I did not know who to trust. Even though Jameson was questionable, he was still swoony. The characters were built with depth, a deep profound relationship building, mysterious, and creatively woven. The author’s writing style is complex, multifaceted, suspenseful, twisty, creative, and brilliant. The author’s slowly builds the characters with their backstory, delivers the chaotic plot in twisty layers, and the flow and pace is excellent with a shocking ending, that still has me thinking about it. I really loved the interwoven controversial topic compounded with a psychological thriller. The author did include TWs at the beginning of the story, which I loved. The author’s background as a RN added an authenticity that elevates the details.

If you love to read Freida McFadden or John Marrs, you will love Jessica Payne. This has everything you could want in a thriller, slow burn suspense, twists, medical serial killer, betrayal, and secrets, with a sprinkle of romance. She is an author that I will read blindly as I know I will get a twisty psychological thriller, no matter the synopsis. I highly recommend this one and all of Payne’s backlist.

Chloe is making a fresh start in Portland, buying a house and putting down roots with her fiancé, and starting a new job as a nurse practitioner at Portland General Hospital. Everything seems perfect, until she discovers she’ll be working for her ex-husband, Dr. Jameson Smith – an ex-husband she abruptly left amid tragic and suspicious circumstances. When she notices an abnormally high number of patient deaths, Chloe starts to suspect there’s a medical serial killer in the hospital, and she’s becoming more and more convinced that her ex is the culprit.

Jessica Payne has described her newest book as “Grey’s Anatomy but with murder,” and she’s dead on! (see what I did there?) Just like Grey’s glued me to the screen, The Good Doctor had me glued to the pages! I love the author’s writing style and the constant undercurrent of dread and danger. This then-and-now high-stakes medical thriller had patients and staff dying at every turn in both timelines, keeping me fully engrossed until the very last page.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me an advance copy of this book.

I read this in one evening and it was a gem. A fun and entertaining medical thriller that was suspenseful and kept me turning the pages until the very end as I had to know what was going to happen. While I had a good and accurate guess for once, it was still extremely enjoyable and Payne is an auto read author for me as I really enjoy her books.

Thank you to @bookouture and @thrillerbookloverspromotions for a copy to read and review. This one is out today, and trust me you do not want to miss it!

🤩 First off, Happy Publication Week to The Good Doctor 🤩

I finally have everything I’ve ever wanted: a career saving lives, my dream home among the pines, and my caring fiancé, Elton. He doesn’t know about my past. And I’ll do anything to keep it that way…

But when I walk in on my first day, I see my ex-husband Jameson. His familiar broad shoulders are unmistakable in his white doctor’s coat. The shock knocks the air from my lungs.

As above, Jessica Payne is an author I’ll read anything from. Her books are always highly entertaining and will leave you floored.

A wonderful medical drama/thriller with a serial killer. It’s a roller coaster of twists and turns, that had me flying through the book in one sitting.

Many thanks to @netgalley @bookouture and @jessicapayne for an ARC.
Out now! 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After witnessing your ex husbands treatment of your brother you leave him and that life behind. You're now happily engaged, living in your dream home and have been offered the perfect career. It's your first day in the ICU at Portland General and shock, horror when you arrive you find yourself working alongside Jameson, the ex husband.

Man, I thought I'd cracked it and then Payne threw in another twist that blasted my theory apart. What a cracking read The Good Doctor turned out to be, fast paced, compulsive and absolutely gripping. The chapters were relatively short, so I flew through the book in an afternoon.

This is the third of Payne's books I've read and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

The Good Doctor is a brilliant psychological thriller that’s filled with suspense and tension. So much so that by the time I had finished reading it my nerves were frayed ! As soon as I began reading this book I just knew it was going to be a really good read and it certainly was that. All my theories of what was going on proved to be incorrect but as I always say that’s the sign of a good author if I can’t predict the outcome. So if you enjoy psychological thrillers and especially those with a medical background then I wholeheartedly recommend this book. 4⭐️
