Abeltje gaat samen met meneer Tump, juffrouw Klaterhoen en Laura naar de kermis in Middelum. Maar daar loopt het helemaal mis, want tijdens een goocheltruc van professor Pinsky verdwijnt Laura. Niemand weet waar ze is gebleven. Abeltje mag de woonwagen en het paard van de professor lenen. Samen met meneer Tump en juffrouw Klaterhoen gaat hij op zoek naar Laura en op weg naar........nieuwe avonturen!

About the author

Anna Maria Geertruida Schmidt was a Dutch writer.

Although she wrote a variety of poems, songs, books, plays, musicals, and radio- en television drama, she is known best for her children's literature, for which she received the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1988. She committed suicide a day after her 84th birthday and was buried in Amsterdam.

Although the book is a little bit older - first copy is dated 1955- I haven't read it in my childhood. Now I've read it, I think it's a funny book, it has excitement in it, confusion, humor, which all makes it attractive to keep reading. I think still nowadays children can find themselves somehow related to one of the main characters in the book.
What can make it a bit difficult for children is the fact that some of the things that are spoken of, are not really used anymore in the 21st century. So I could imagine children wondering what some of the things mentioned, really are. For example what are 'pyjama-tressen'?
The ending of the book is quit predictable. Well, at least when you're an adult. I suppose children won't 'see' some of the connections right away.

Je hoort steeds vaker het geluid dat Schmidt gedateerd is. Dat klopt, want dit boek is al even geleden geschreven. In een tijd waar het nog normaal is dat er overal en nergens circussen zijn met tijgers. Nu we dat niet meer doen zal mijn dochter een zorg wezen. Waar ik vooral over struikelde was het gebruik van woorden die we nu niet meer gebruiken. Het was geen doen om iedere keer maar een modernere omschrijving te vinden. Ik geloof dat zij het niet zo erg vond, ze vond het spannend en wat langdradig. Ja het stikt van de herhalingen en de dialogen. Best saai, maar uiteindelijk redelijk geslaagd met een twist alsof we in de Handmaids Tale zaten. Nou ja een beetje dan.

Tuleb tõdeda, et minus on vist lapsemeelsus kängu jäänud. Saan aru, et raamatul on ka eellugu, ilma seda lugemata algaski antud teose teemaarendus kohati nagu poole pealt. Oli küll põgusalt mainitud, mis varem oli juhtunud ning see tundus isegi üsna huviäratav ja eesoleva suhtes ootusi tekitav. Paraku jäi raamatu teemaarendus minu jaoks üsna naiivseks ja sündmustevaeseks. Unejutuks paras. Ei midagi enamat.
