Oracle of the Dreamtime is a beautiful book and card divination set based on Aboriginal spirtual beliefs - the Dreaming stories - that have been passed around camp fires for thousands of years. There is much that this old wisdom can still teach us about how to live our lives today, and here the Dreamings are presented as a tolls for self-exploration and inspiration, in a form accessible to all. According to the dreamings, animals plants and creatures of the land are the Aboriginal ancestors, brothers and sisters, mothers or fathers. They are called, kobong, or totems, and are never to be harmed. In return, they give protection, connect us to the spiritual, and guide us during difficult moments. Donni Hakanson?s insight into Aboriginal culture, together with the stunning and authentic dreaming card illustrations, combine to help us find the answers that lie within ourselves.
First of all, the cards are round, which I have found is something that I love. But even more than that is the potency of the images and text. The art is contemporary Australian aboriginal art depicting tales from that culture; each card carries marvelous intention as well as interest. The book is very well written, giving not only a wonderful telling of the story for each card, but also the significance of each. My husband and I each picked a card (the one we were most drawn to) when I opened this set, and then we read what was written. For each of us, the card, story, and interpretation were incisive and insightful for our specific situations. Really, the intention that has gone into these cards is strong. It is easy for personal intuition to feel the draw.
