A good overall biography of Lot Smith. The first third is very much historical fiction with bland dialogues and simple writing for young readers.
The last two-thirds are better written and closer to just historical accounts with minimal dialogue (that still shows the author’s reluctance to really give any of the historical characters any personality). It is a much better read however, and enjoyable to learn about Lot’s exploits in hampering the US Army supply lines and trying to settle new colonies in Arizona.
Good book if you want a quick bio on Lot that covers all the most significant events in his life.
