My brother introduced me to the game of backgammon, and to thoughts of strategy and tactics that might complicate such a seemingly simple game. Bruce Becker taught me to weigh the odds, take the chances, and make the most out of the game. Unfortunately I never became a very good player, and routinely lose to unskilled players, even those I am trying to teach how to play the game. But I think this is because the joy of the game, for me, derives from taking risks, and taking risks is not the best way to play.
In any event, the book contains many principles and rules of thumb that would make a better player than me better still. Highly recommended.
