Just a Range Ball in a Box of Titleists: On and Off the Tour with Gary McCord

Rate this book
Gary McCord has been playing the PGA tour for the last twenty-three years, and broadcasting for CBS for the last ten. His tournament success has been, shall we say, mixed. But during those years, he admits, "a number of strange and interesting things have transpired."Now, through his unique greens-eye view, McCord brings them to the Tour, the personalities, the culture, the very sights and smells of professional golf. Inside you'll find people named Norman, Nicklaus, Pavin, Watson, Mickelson, and Daly. But you'll also find deeply funny tales of terror on everything from Qualifying School to the Masters. In all, Just a Range Ball... is a work of pure delight from Gary McCord, television's number one golf commentator and iconoclast.

Funny & irreverent but a bit stale now. No Tiger, No Rory, No Speith. Today's players are not represented but if you can get past that some of the stories are just fun. Boomers & Gen Xers will remember if they followed golf in the 80's & 90's.

Some interesting stories, but the book shows its age with lots of OJ references. His standalone essays are better

A waste of cheap ink and paper. Probably the worst and least entertaining golf book I've ever read.

I'm a golfer ... a lady golfer ... and I guess I just couldn't appreciate his humor. Not my kind of book ...
