Paradise series 3 Books Collection Set (Winter in Paradise , What Happens in Paradise , Troubles in Paradise) by Elin Hilderbrand rene Steele shares her idyllic life in a beautiful Iowa City Victorian house with a husband who loves her to sky-writing, sentimental extremes. But as she rings in the new year one cold and snowy night, everything she thought she knew falls to pieces with a shocking phone her beloved husband, away on business, has been killed in a helicopter crash. Before Irene can even process the news, she must first confront the perplexing details of her husband's death on the distant Caribbean island of St. John.
Elin Hilderbrand lives on Nantucket with her husband and their three young children. She grew up in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, and traveled extensively before settling on Nantucket, which has been the setting for her five previous novels. Hilderbrand is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and the graduate fiction workshop at the University of Iowa.
Love the plot but they just need more character punch. Way too much description and I found myself skimming pages to get to the real story. Dragging through these books and I can’t wait for them to be over. I’ve been reading this last one for about a week. I have been reading books every few days so this is really a drag.
Not sure I would read any of her other books. These should be so much better.
The last few chapters bring in a completely useless character and I literally read about 10% of whatever she wrote for this character’s chapter! What a stupid thing to do. I can’t understand how anyone thinks this series is good.
Don’t waste your time!!!
And, the first book I read had a few editing errors. Huck’s name was Hack on one of the pages! Then there was a repeated thought in one sentence. Weird.
Gosh darn it. It ends with a cliffhanger! I was going to move on to something else but now I need the next in the series. I know Elin Hilderbrand is supposed to be fluffy beach reads but she has fantastic characters. They have depth, they have insights. I always learn something about food, about island life, that is so interesting and useful. The covers don’t do these books justice. More people should pick them up. I read an article that said people who read fiction are more empathetic , this author’s work, certainly does that.
“It’s newly astonishing to Irene that as much as we know about the world, we still can’t see into another person’s mind or heart.”
ARRGHHHH Elin. I love, love, love this series with my entire soul. I am genuinely so sad that I finished these books. What a fun escape to paradise.
Irene, her two adult sons Cash and Baker and their dog Winnie end up on St. Johns island after learning that their husband and father, Russell, has died in a mysterious helicopter crash. We later learn that Russell was having a secret affair with one of the island girls, Rosie, and left behind a glorious villa along with hundreds of thousands in assets.
This book was captivating, brilliant and raw from start to finish. I flew through these books. I wish there was another 600 page book with these characters. Irene is so loveable: she is strong-willed and real, but she is kind and soft-spoken when she needs to be. Baker is the definition of DILF: he's a present dad to his son, Floyd, he's selfless and he's LOYAL. Cash was so fun to read about. I loved his adventures on Treasure Island with Ayers, and I loved their brief little love triangle. Ayers was so fun and mermaid-coded, I was so happy she chose the right brother lol. Lowkey though girl was stupid asf with Mitch...honey once a cheater always a cheater smh
And then there was Huck and Maia. Maia was so cute, don't get me wrong. But Huck was the star of the show. I think I enjoyed reading about Huck and Irene more than anyone else in this story (second to Baker and Ayers, ofc). He is so teddy-bear.
Sometimes I got so lost in the characters that I nearly forgot about the entire scandal with Russ and Rosie. But I think that's what Elin was intending to do: make us feel like we were breezing away on the island of St. Johns. And she did a damn good job!! The way she describes the food, the beaches, the bars, is so good. I eat it up every time. I felt like my toes were really wiggling in the sand
If you're looking for your newest obsession, here it is. I will quite literally carry these characters with me for the rest of my days. Please give us more, I'm begging you Elin
-Unreal, predictable/of course, engaging -Is this where we get disillusionment and faulty expectations from for life and relationships? Major life event then rash decisions to drop everything and change our lives, meeting new romanticized widow/single parent who is now instantly in love with you, perfect job offer, money windfall and exact needed moment, pregnancy, -"Ayers says, baker says" repeat -Perhaps its not supposed to be like that , love at first site. Taking them back unconditionally. Perhaps that the problem and this, what im doing, leaving, saying no, that's not a marriage, acceptable is love, Perhaps that's the problem not this -Is this where I learned relationship behaviors, games? -What was that ending. Introducing Margaret for what? And then who's this collective "we"?? :Eye roll: predictable. -Fantastical jumped the shark suspension of reality
This is a story of the Steele family. Baker, the older son, is getting divorced and is keeping custody of his son. Cash, the younger son, is having financial troubles. After learning of their husband’s/father’s death during a work trip to the island of St. Thomas, the family must put their own troubles aside, travel to the island and deal with the aftermath. They discover their husband/father had not only been involved in some shady dealings at work but also living a double life with his second family.

I really! Really loved this series! Truly I did! With that being said, and I don’t want to be a spoiler…but there were some similarities with two of the main characters as the story progressed!! But I really loved ALL the characters especially Irene and Huck!! ❤️ I felt like I lived in the Virgin Islands 🇻🇬!! The writing “took me there” I have been to St.Thomas before but so long ago! This series made me want to go back!
A little mystery included in book that does not take place in Nantucket. Irene is in her home in Iowa when she receives word that her husband (Russ) has died in a helicopter crash in the Virgin Islands. The shock of his sudden death is just the beginning of a tangled web of lies. The book ends with a phone call to all the family members of those killed in the crash. Only Huck answers, after all it is an area code no one recognizes. On to Book 2.
I read all 3 of these books to find out what happened? Who was Russ—devoted husband and father or philandering criminal? Would his sons find their way? The books have way too many characters, way too many plot lines, too many false starts, and the whole story is unrealistic. BUT, the setting really drew me in. My conclusion: I’d like to visit the Virgin Islands!
Enjoyable series. Really start loving the characters and caring about the story lines as the series progresses. Glad I kept up with the series to finish it out. Overall feel good, heartwarming story.
This trilogy was the first of her books that I read and immediately I got hooked! Read them in order as they are all the same characters! And enjoy! I was suggested these because I had vacationed on the British Virgin Islands and I was glad I did!
Loveddddd this series!!! Felt so connected to the characters and the families after reading about them for so many pages. I loved the vibe being on Saint Thomas. There were so many characters and perspectives so it took awhile to background, but after that it read super fast.
Not sure why this story was cut into three books. Could have been done in one and you would be frustrated that it just drops in book one and two and you’re forced to buy all three to get the story.
I read this series in about a week and loved each book. Easy reads with spectacular characters. I enjoyed reading the story and how live unfolds when Irene finds out about her husbands secret life. The details that unfold, the friendships and relationships that bind all these characters together.
