Varied works of French writer Romain Rolland include Jean Christophe (1904-1912), a series of satirical novels; he won the Nobel Prize of 1915 for literature.
The committee awarded him "as a tribute to the lofty idealism of his literary production and to the sympathy and love of truth with which he has described different types of human beings."
A very dense and illustrative resume on Vivekananda's mission to bridge religions, cultures, and beliefs. An interesting parallel is drawn between Ramakrinsha, his master, and Vivekananda, who succeeded in bringing traditional Yoga to the West, in particular to the USA. For this reason, Vivekananda is often considered the first modern Yogi of our time. Rolland's comprehensive work gives justice to the real meaning behind the yogic practice and its message for humanity, which is fundamentally different from the physical acrobacies and exercise we see today. Highly recommended.
Read it in 2005, was inspirational, and is the basis of many of my thoughts and ideals. Probably the best book written on Vivekananda. The ideas and life of Vivekananda are presented in a simple(not simpler) and clear way. Though written by a foreign author, it has very clear usage of simple words(not complicated word structure) in an effective way.
