Lucas held Kylie responsible for the death of his wife. Kylie called 911 when she heard someone walking around outside around midnight. She was not pleased at all when it was Lucas that was the responding officer. Being the good sheriff that he is, he walked around outside, but then also had to come in her house. This was the first time they had seen each other in years, stirring up all kinds of past emotions. When he made sure no one was lurking outside, he was walking to his truck. He sat there for awhile, thinking… that’s when he noticed Kylie was being kidnapped. He rushed to her rescue, and from there the action never stopped. This was a really good book! It had action, suspense, and a dash of romance. Just the kind of book that you can't put down till the last page!

I have joined Manali Dey, a friend on Bookstagram, for the #MillsandBoonReadathon for which we are reading 18 books, coz it's '18! This is Book 6.

This is one genre (romantic suspense) for which I wait with bated breath. And Delores Fossen is a favourite since her book Mommy Under Cover which was a five-star read for me.
Thriller is my first love among all the genres, and for me, there exists a very thin line between thriller and suspense. My second love being romance, it couldn't have gotten any better than a romantic suspense. It has become my new favourite!

Set in Fall Creek, Texas, the book opens with Kylie Monroe pointing a gun at an intruder(s) and desperately waiting for the police. A former law enforcement officer herself, she is fearing more for the baby she's carrying. In comes Sheriff Lucas Creed, and she attempts to hide her pregnancy, now in the second trimester. Lucas despises her, and with reason, for something that happened three years ago, something that had made her leave her job as a deputy, Lucas's deputy. She works as a journalist now.

And one of her articles, the one on illegal and unethical surrogacy activities, exposing some very famous, but very bad people, may just have put a target on her back. Kylie already knows that Lucas hates her, but if he knew that the baby she carried was his, he would definitely hate her more. But, she had made a promise to his dying wife, to Marissa, her best friend and she had to keep it.

Told from both Kylie and Lucas's POV in the third form of narration, Lucas just has to look at her to think about the unfairness of the situation. That the woman responsible for his wife and unborn child's death was having a baby. Though he had a small consolation, that an anonymous surrogate was going to give birth to his baby in four and a half months. But when Kylie is attacked, she has to move in with him to his ranch, until the people behind it are caught. (A Texan cowboy for a hero, hell yeah!)

The author infuses humour in such a dire situation and I love her books more for it. There is so much action that it kept me on my toes. The romance, the subtle hints of attraction, is there from the beginning itself. There is so much hate between them which is sure to change into love, with time. Some morality and promises made on the deathbed can really suck. And aaah... Kylie's honesty was quite amusing to read, especially in the face of Lucas's discomfort. Kylie has this one habit when she gets nervous, and that was such a sweet addition to her character graph. It's a small place, and the way they knew each other from childhood, at least from when they were teenagers; it made the read more intimate. The story had a perfect ending.

Despite Lucas' attitude about Kylie allowing his wife to die in the beginning. You couldn't help but love how they learned to rely on one another. Ultimately, they were attracted to one another, probably he felt more with Kylie, than he did his own wife, and the made Lucas feel incredibly guilty.

And Even though she is trying to give him the ultimate gift, will she be able to walk away from their child and this sexy lawman? Yes, provided she lives to give birth by Lucas protecting her, then yes she'll walk away. For Lucas, for his deceased wife and for the baby she has come to love so much!

Lucas can't believe how attracted he is to Kylie, while maybe he felt a little of when he first met her and her best friend that became his wife, he never gave it a second thought until now. And he's honestly too angry to do anything about it!

Yes, we all make choices, but it's funny how things have a way of working out, at least in the romance books!

You'll meet Lucas' best friend, Dr. Finn McGrath, he's made appearances before and you'll meet him again in Newborn Conspiracy, though I'm waiting to see if he'll get his own story! Maybe I just haven't read it yet, let me know if you happen to remember him every getting his story. In Newborn Conspiracy, it alludes to Finn never having a family but I couldn't figure out why, I did have to skip a couple due to not being able to find/Borrow/Buy them, so perhaps I missed one?

Wow, the plot of this is INSANE. Kylie, the mc, is a psycho. She gets her friend killed, and to make it up to the husband, she gets herself pregnant by him secretly!?!?
If he supposedly hates her, who in their right mind would think *ya this person wants me to be their babymama* wtf!?!?
She rationalizes it like she "has" to do it to make it up to him, as if he she was the ONLY possible way for him to get a child? There's plenty of other doners he could have had.
That was only the beginning. Through the course of the book, they sleep together, fall in love, and plan to get married all within what seems like weeks. She's a nut who stole her dead friends life. Lucas is a freak who is hardly shown to show any guilt for shacking up with his dead wife's bestie.
If I were Marissa, I would haunt these clowns and make them miserable 👻

Good book it came as part of a two for one book one might say. I liked this book and the other one included in the book The Last Noel. This story has some good twists and turns in it and doesn't reveal the person who is involved in the shootings of the sheriff and his lady friend who is the "secret surogate" in fact. I won't share anymore try to find this book and read it. A light but page turner to read.

Lucas Creed didn't want anything to do with his ex deputy, Kylie Monroe especially after what happened three years earlier. However, being the only person available he had to answer Kylie's 911 call. He isn't shocked once but twice in that first night of seeing her after three years. Once by the fact she's pregnant then by the fact it is his child she carries.

Kylie knew that she was risking a lot telling Lucas that the baby she was having was his, but she had no choice. With gunmen after her wanting to end her life and the babies she had to trust Lucas. She had made a promise to his late wife to make him happy and she was going to try and do that. The baby inside of her was going to give him that happiness back he’d lost with her mistake.

They both are still in morning over his wife's death. She was Kylie's best friend since they were kids and the love of his life. Kylie knew she wasn't alone in feeling the sparks around them, but they tried to play it off. It just wasn't going to work for much longer and it didn't. In the process of keeping her safe they were both healing.

It was one attack after another and at first they both thought that Lucas ex sister in-law was in on the take. They were even thinking about Lucas' best friend along with the lawyer and the surrogacy clinic director. I had my mark on Cordelia his ex-sister in law after she kept threatening to sue them all for what was going on with the baby, Kylie and Lucas.

Lucas tries his best to get them into a safe house, but with Windham telling them he has people on the inside of the police department it becomes risky. Lucas is running out time, but he knows they can't just leave and get on plane like he wants to. He has to protect not only the baby inside of her, but her as well. He has fallen for Kylie along the way and he has to let her know, but will it be too late.

Lucas and Kylie survived the mad gunmen and a few other problems along the way. The biggest was the damage done to their hearts when Marissa had died. Lucas and Kylie were a perfect fit for each other and she admitted to him about a crush she had for him as a teen.

I loved how Delores Fossen wrote and she did excellent love scenes. I have read her before and she is a must read when comes to her books. Five stars for the book, author and the main characters.

Great harlequin. Lucas and Kylie were great character's. Lucas hated her because he blamed her for the death of his wife. I did think the reason why he blamed her was a bit wrong. My heart broke when I found out what she was doing for him. Nice romantic suspense story, one of the few harlequins I re-read many times.

Had an interesting story line but it was way too repetitive and predictable.
