I read this when I was ten years old, after my school had given all of the girls in the class ‘the period talk’. Being a naturally curious person yet too nervous to ask my parents questions, I checked this book out from the library and absolutely loved it. It was a funny and informational for a very confused and scared ten year old.

This book has short stories inside that tell about girls that have their periods. I know it's gross but it still is a good book.

Sometimes it's a beautiful thing to remember that females from all time periods, cultures, abilities, and parts of the world bleed. Sometimes it's a startling thing to remember. This book gives a taste along both ends of the spectrum.

One of the most memorable is the story of a deaf foster girl who finally feels connection with others through her first blood.

Revolutionary! PERIOD PIECES is a pioneer in the field of girls' empowerment and gender equality. It's the first book of its kind, as far as I know. Every story is a true retelling of an author's first period. The diversity of experience shows girls how different every young woman's first period can be...how being a woman is whatever it means to you. Essential reading. Five stars!

Every girl has a story like one of these!

Here are the one's that stood out to me:

White Pants by Linda Sue Park

The Gentleman Cowboy by Cynthia Leitich Smith

Living on Chocolate by Dian Curtis Regan

You Are a Senorita by Carmen T. Bernier-Grand

The Gift - by Uma Krishnaswami

and most of all - Making Do by Rita Williams-Garcia
