The Copper Lady

Rate this book
The boat creaked and moaned as the storm's waves smashed into the ship. Down in the hold, Andre‚ sat between crates that held the great copper lady, the Statue of Liberty. They were on their way to America, but would the storm that raged prevent them from getting there? Given to the people of the United States in 1885 by the people of France as a symbol of friendship between the two countries, the Statue of Liberty has come to symbolize freedom, liberty, and hope to all that see her. About the author

Alice Ross

Alice Ross used to work in the financial services industry where she wrote riveting, enthralling brochures about pensions and ISAs that everyone read avidly and no one ever put straight into the bin.

One day, when nobody was looking, she managed to escape. Dragging her personal chef (aka her husband) along with her, she headed to Spain, where she began writing witty, sexy, romps designed to amuse slightly more than pension brochures.

Missing Blighty (including the weather - but don't tell anyone), she returned five years later.

When not writing, she can be found scratching a tune on her violin, sweating on a spin bike, or upside down in a yoga pose.

A very nice, fictionalized story about the Statue of Liberty. It starts in France and ends in America. I nice early reading and history...can't beat that!

The Statue of Liberty is my favorite symbol of the United States, and I always enjoy reading about her. This story gave a nice perspective on the building of the statue, with the added storyline of a young boy who wants to escape the drudgery of his life.

My kids loved this book in the On My Own History series. This one wasn't my favorite because it was more like historical fiction rather than based on all actual events.

I think that the book was really good because it had the person who made it in it. Also,I wonder what would happen if the boss would come to New York and tell him that's my guy! Why did you kidnap him? He's just a kid.

The kid was amazed at what they made. I wish that he didn't live with those types of people. They don't treat him right . He is very daring because he goes to America to be a coppersmith and to get a better life. I would be scared to leave by myself to a different county.

I could not help thinking as I read this book to the kids that it was a perfect example of modern "dumbed down" books. Thankfully, it was a short read, so I did not have to spend time with this book.
