The hilarious and unmissable new series about Gilbert, a boy whose best friend is an imaginary giant fluffy bunny called Fluff, from the creator who brought us The Odds, Funny Kid and Bored.
Gilbert's underpants are hanging on the school gate.
He must get revenge on the bully who put them there and who better to help than A BUNNY WITH ATTITUDE!
A hilarious story full of heart and packed with drones, wedgies, rockets and Parmesan cheese!
From the creator of Funny Kid and The Odds comes the best friend you could ever imagine ... Fluff!
Matt Stanton is a bestselling children's author and illustrator, with over a quarter of a million books in print. He is the co-creator of seven bestselling picture books, including the mega-hits, There is a Monster Under My Bed Who Farts and This is a Ball. He is launching his much-anticipated middle-grade series, Funny Kid around the world in July 2017.
I received a free sneak peek chapter sampler in exchange for an honest review.
This is a story about Gilbert and his best friend Fluff, and oversized stuffed rabbit with a few impulse control issues. Straight into the story, you know the narrator has a wild imagination and great sense of humour. Fluff is definitely real though, other kids talk and interact with him. There are embarrassing underpants galore and giant wedgies and ill-advised revenge plans. It’s at that beginner chapter book level of reading, with large font, small pieces of text and lots of pictures to keep children engaged.
Fluff #1: Bullies Beware is the first in a new series by Matt Stanton. My 10-year-old son and I took turns to read chapters of this book aloud at bedtime, and we both loved it. It had us giggling from the minute Gilbert’s underpants were found hanging from the school gate. We will definitely be continuing with this series. Thanks to Better Reading and the publisher for our preview copy.
This is an engaging and funny story I enjoyed reading with my kids aged 8 and 9. It holds the same valuable lesson about bullies that my Mum taught me.
There's nothing to not like about Stanton's latest junior graphic fiction series, Fluff. Except maybe bullies, which Gilbert and his gigantic fluffy bunny buddy do, with a passion. In fact their borderline selfrighteousness and desire to wreak revenge on their arch nemesis, Carl, becomes their soul purpose and the core of this cute and quirky tale which features tonnes of turtles, parmesan cheese, drones and undies in weird places. Kids will love the zaniness, the absurdity, the talking fish (I did) and the extremely brilliant illustrations swimming with motion and madness.
What makes a great graphic novel experience superlative are the touches of tenderness secreted amidst the crazy. Stanton does this quietly and with great effect beginning with the 'bit at the beginning' which is in fact the hook for book #2 right there (for me anyways). Along with the series's namesake of course. Time to get your bunny on kids to make sure you get enough of the Fluff. :-)
Fluff: Bullies Beware! by Matt Stanton has a fun and quirky storyline that younger readers will likely enjoy, especially those who love animals and silly humour. The illustrations are bright and playful, and the message about standing up to bullies is positive and important.
However, I found the story a bit rushed in places, and some of the jokes didn’t land as well as others. The characters could’ve been a little more developed to really connect with them. That said, it’s still a light, entertaining read that many kids will get a kick out of—just not one I’d rush to reread.
Thoroughly enjoyable, inventive take on the timeless problem for kids everywhere - how to (and how not to!) deal with an implacable bully. Fluff the Giant Comfort Bunny and Talking Fish Nelson are Gilbert Morris's much-needed side-kicks in the fight against mean-boy Carl- even if Fluff is loving and loveable, but 'quite a bad influence'. This great little graphic novel is lively, funny and relatable! With fun illustrations, too, including 'How to Draw Fluff' at the very end!
This is too cute! Fluff isn't as smart as my (supposedly) "imaginary" friend Fifi was (when I was little) but he makes up for it in other ways... I loved the illustrations: the caravan made me nostalgic for one (of many) we had growing up. I really want to read the rest of the book after the tantalising teaser Sneak Peek (courtesy of Better Reading)
Pretty dopey book which is more about seeking revenge and putting others down. I get the whole bulling thing is an issue but this one doesn't really help. It's just well bad.
I was given a Sampler Book to review and from what I read - it's a great little book with pictures to engage the younger readers and worded for young minds to comprehend the situations.
Bullying will never be stamped out, but for Gilbert he was able to seek back some fun on Carl is fulltime bully, both at School and at home.
