Now, let’s start the 5th book, The Barbaric Fae’s Soul.

This book literally started off with a spicy scene which bothers me.
They are polar opposites.
Their people were enemies.
We had not seen an established relationship of them other than 2-3 sentences mentioned in the previous books.
It’s way too fast for me.

I definitely like that this book is more dual pov than the previous ones. We only got 1-2 povs from the MMCs in the other books, but this time Ave has his own chapters continuously which I appreciate because I find it easier to connect with him. Dakota is a strong woman, I like her so far. She is kind, helpful and a survivor. But I want to see more depth other than her trauma.

Nah, if Dakota goes through with her plan, I’ll hate this book. I don’t care what Ave says, it’s grey area cheating, and I do not condone cheating in my books. Especially between mates.

I officially hate Dakota. Your trauma is not an excuse for hurting others. She says she doesn’t want to hurt Ave since he has been through so much. But she is okay hurting him afterall to test whether his feelings for her are real because of her past sh!tty relationships? She is hurting him just like they hurt her. Except it’s not physical but emotional pain. How f*cking cruel is that? God, I hate her.

I am so disappointed. Aev was an amazing male character. I thought I'd hate him for how cold he was before, the way he was described in the previous books, but no, he was an absolute golden retriever. Dots aka Dakota on the other hand is the type of character who makes me want to burn a book. The audacity that she doesn't even realise she has is astonishing.
I don't understand how Dots could use her trauma as an excuse to hurt Aev when a few pages before she said she didn't want to hurt him. She was hurt in the past, emotionally, physically and mentally, but apparently when she does it to Aev it's perfectly fine because she has a trauma and trust issues. I can't accept this not only because trauma doesn't excuse one's behaviour but also because Aev has been through shit.
I can't understand why the author thought that this would be a good idea. Not only does it ruin the characters and the couple itself when one is "grey-area" cheating even if the other party agreed, but it also cheapens the mate bond when everyone is breaking it and creating new ones. Why is there a mating bond when people can break it so easily?
Dots was so toxic. She cheated, although with Aev's agreement, so she could see if Aev loved her for her and not because of the bond. She formed a bond with someone else just to test her mate. Of course, we didn't have Aev's POV like before, because that would have been way too painful. But if the roles were reversed, people would be kicking off about how toxic the MMC was.
Besides, it was explained multiple times that the bond didn't create feelings, so I am not even blaming Dots, but the author because it felt like she wanted to create unnecessary drama. I am absolutely furious. I can't accept the explanation we got in the book which is that it's because of Dot's trauma. F*ck that. Ave had trauma and didn't do this. It was Dots' absolutely shitty, toxic decision. That's a cop out.
I was okay with this book at the beginning, but after Dot's decision... I wanted to burn it. I still want to burn it. I am furious, disappointed and the only reason book 5, The Barbaric Fae's Soul, gets a 2-star rating and not a 1 is because I don't give out 1s. Otherwise it'd be up there. This was a weak book because anything that was explained was contradicted or didn't make sense according to what we learnt before
I said in an even, cold voice, “Dakota is my friend, by her own choice. We are bonded, by her own choice. I left her here for her safety, when bringing her with me would’ve been nothing but selfish. Call me whatever you want when I’m gone, but when I’m in front of you? You insult me, and you’ll realize why my bastard friends forced me to become the king.”
