This volume was the best where Hiura finally comes out to his/her mother (the manga usually refers to Hiura as him but it seems they should be using she everything considered. Oh well. Other than that it almost got a 5 star review as the coming out scene was powerful
Hahaha... my review on volume one, which I wrote after reading volume four, still stands and is even more true after reading this volume:
I really like how this volume portrays Hiura as a boy, who still sees himself as and feels like a boy, who just likes feminine clothing and make up. I think this is a very healthy depiction of crossdressing and a good look into how someone's appearance can significantly impact their sense of self and comfort with being themself. And I really love how universally accepted Hiura is by everyone. It's very wholesome and a very supportive, nice world.
Just when I was starting to get a little bored with the repetitiveness of the series they had a sort of coming out of the closet chapter with his mom. It was really short and almost felt surreal. I sort of feel like the series is starting to lose its steam a little, so I think depending on what happens in volume six I'll either probably stop reading or the series will be done. I'm not sure what more the author could write a short of the love confession at this point.
This series continues to be a gender exploration positivity series. I'm very happy to see more of these kind of stories becoming common. This one is very sweet and cute.
Hiura talking to his mom about the crossdressing made me want to cry! My favorite parts of this series are when Hiura talks about his body image and his feelings. I love seeing his confidence grow. It may have started out as a way to get Mido to notice him more, but turned into a way to learn to love his body. I also love reading the authors notes. I feel like the author takes a lot of care to maintain a light hearted yet serious tone and acknowledges that not everyone will have the same experience with their body as Hiura, but it's a perspective some people may relate to.
I love this series so much! I get overly anxious when it comes out because of how nervous I am because I know I’m going to be all in my feels the whole time I’m reading. This volume did not disappoint not one bit it had me sad, happy, nervous, and proud for both boys. I cannot wait until the next volume to know more
3.5? I wouldn’t read much into my ratings of each volume, there’s just a general ‘yes I like this series’. It remains very cute and I like that it feels like we’re heading somewhere with maybe one or both of them getting closer to confessing? Very much enjoyed the Hiura As Cat scene and looking forward to more roommate shenanigans.
Super cute I like the theme of self identity in figuring out oneself in the main two characters are super cute I can’t wait to read the next volume the artwork is really nice and the story is absolutely adorable.
This was another cute volume. I’m glad we got some clarity on Hiura’s current State of Gender, haha, and Mido going through a sexuality journey at the same time is entertaining.
Cute as always! I'm kind of hoping that Mido comes to thinking that he's not straight, but not necessarily gay either - it feels like Hiura could be anything from genderfluid to non-binary to gender-nonconforming. I really liked the bit with his mum, which felt really nice to get this 'I don't really know what I am but I finally like how I look'. Hopefully next volume there might be some movement on the romantic front, but I just enjoy this manga, exploring gender and presentation, but never getting too depressing or serious about it.
