For the very first time in his decades-long career writing "for" teens, acclaimed and beloved author Walter Dean Myers writes "with" a teen, Ross Workman.

Kevin Johnson is a great kid and skilled soccer player. With attitude.

Then he ends up in jail.

Sergeant Brown is a tough cop and Kevin's mentor.

With attitude.

If Kevin and Brown can learn to trust each other, they might be able to turn things around.

Before it's too late.

Have you ever thought of writing a fan letter to your favorite author? Maybe you should. When Walter Dean Myers received a fan letter from high school student Ross Workman, he suggested they write a book together. Really. The result is Kick, a story told in two voices. Myers wrote the chapters from the point of view of a seasoned police sergeant who agrees to mentor a troubled young kid, and Workman wrote the alternating chapters giving voice to the young kid. Kevin Johnson is arrested after driving a “borrowed” car into a telephone pole. The car belongs to the father of the girl who happens to be in the car with Kevin, but neither one of them will talk about what happened. As Sergeant Brown works on the case and tries to get the girl’s father to drop the charges, he becomes drawn more and more to this fatherless boy who channels his anger into scoring goals on the soccer field. The plot kind of stagnates right there, though, and not much else happens. There is a subplot about some immigrant workers being exploited, but that fizzles out as well. The book will sell because of the novelty of Myers joining forces with a teen writer, but there’s not much here to keep a reader’s interest.

The Title of my book is Kick. The author is Walter Dean Myers. The book was published in 2011 and it is a fiction book. The main character is Kevin. His a kid whose on probation trying to put him in Juvenile Detention Center. He has a really bad temper. His desire is to play soccer. Another important character would be Sergeant Brown he's the one who will decide if Kevin cam handle being in a normal school of if he has to go to Juvie. Kevin is a kid who got in trouble with the law. He was driving a car with his girl, when he didn't had a license. The car was from the girl's dad. Kevin crashed into a light pole. When the dad found out he pressed charges on Kevin. Since then Kevin has to be on probation and not to do something bad, or else he'll go to Juvenile Detention Center. He plays soccer but can't really trust him because his temper is really bad, he gets into fights so easy. Sergeant Brown need to change Kevin if he doesn't want him to go to Juvie. Can he do it?
One of the best passages from this occurs on page 96 when "Kevin, get ready! coach yelled. He walked onto the field to check on Robby. It's about time I though". This part of the book was important because he wasn't going to play at all but once he got in he scored and finally won, and they advance to the next stage thanks to Kevin. If you like soccer and adventure, then you'll enjoy this book because Kevin has to keep out of trouble so that he's able to play soccer. This book reminds me of a book when I was younger but can't remember the title. Choose Kick by Walter Dean Myers as your next reading book because I think it'll keep you entertained for a while.

Kevin is a kid that gets arrested for crashing a car. He doesn't want to go to juvie, but he won't tell why he 'accidentally' crashed the car. When Sergeant Brown hears about Kevin, he decides to help Kevin. Kevin is a football player, and his team is preparing to play in the league, but because of the arrest, he might not be able to play. Read this book which is about hope, perseverance, and fate.

I picked Kick up at a thrift store for 50 cents, and it was a good find. I liked this book for several reasons. One, it was about soccer, and I don't have many of these in my library. Two, it has a strong mentor for a boy who needs someone he can trust, something many of my students need. Three, it is a story co-written by an author and a young writer - mentoring at its best. This is a good choice for those reluctant readers who need a book to get them going.

...

The book Kick was a very well written book. It has a good plot, two amazing main characters, and a feel to it that makes you on the edge of your seat. One of the main characters is a young soccer player, Kevin Johnson, who is convicted of a crime and is sent on parole. His parole officer is the other protagonist, Sergeant Brown. These two seem like they would not be able to work with out each other. That is why they help the purpose of the book which is to entertain. I do find this book entertaining, especially that I am in the perfect audience area for this book. The point of view was always switching between the two. After each chapter, The point of view would change.

...

Sometimes reading a book for entertainment has a theme that is very subtle, the theme of this book is very hard to depict, because it is for entertainment. However, the one theme that stands out the most is sometimes selfishness is better than being selfless. The reason I believe that Walter Dean Myers says this is in the book Kevin could have been selfish in the crime he committed and save a lot of heartache for himself and his family, but decided to be selfless for his friend and protect her family. Kevin explains much of this when he states "I couldn't tell my mom or my abuela (grandmother) because they've been through so much" (152). The part in which he says, they have through so much is the arrest and anything else would have set him off. That is why the theme stands out to me in this part of the book.

...

The style of a book is an important part of a book. Since this book is an entertaining book, it has a style of narration. The author did a great job of applying this style and it worked very well. I feel that narration has the most suspense. It creates more problems for the protagonist to make it feel more stressful. Walter Dean Myers also did a good job at forcing a new problem before one is resolved. "They're setting your hearing date for your case" (131). That is an example of one problem put on Kevin right before he was going to forget about his problems and start to focus on what he wants and not forced to think of his problems. The way he uses this style is very good and fits the book very well. Do I think it was effective, yes I do.

...

Kick was a great book. It could even be considered one of my favorites. It was about my favorite sport, soccer. The way he described how Kevin's team played was easily imaginable. I also liked that there was not a single plot. What I mean by that is the plot didn't focus on one thing. Kevin had to focus on his soccer games and his arrest. this always made reading the book a pleasure because I would never get bored. If I had to change the book, I wouldn't. The book is just to good and should not be changed.

Walter Dean Myers and Ross Workman write together quite well. An experimental sort of novel, Kick—in which Myers and Workman have alternated writing chapters from two different first-person points of view—allows both authors to shine in their particular areas of creative strength. As always, Walter Dean Myers conjures up compelling social drama as part of a plot that poses major questions regarding trust, loyalty and the adequacy of the American justice system when it comes to dealing with kids who have made mistakes and crossed onto the wrong side of the law. In the other half of the narrative, Ross Workman proves himself to be quite the wordsmith in the crafting of exciting, easily readable soccer scenes which translate well even to those who don't watch a lot of soccer (like myself). Entwined to make a single novel, the talents of the two authors harmonize nicely, and I hope to see both of them writing more in the future, either in collaboration or on their own.

The mystery begins when Kevin, a boy of thirteen who's never been in trouble with the law before, is caught driving underage with a girl from his school, in her father's car. Neither occupant of the vehicle is doing much talking about why they were out on the road together, but sensible, understanding Judge Kelly can sense that there's more to the story than is being volunteered by the two young teenagers. That's why he puts in a call to an old friend of his from the police force, Sergeant Brown, who agrees to become a fixture in Kevin's life and see if he can get to the bottom of the situation. Sergeant Brown was familiar with Kevin's now-deceased father, who himself had been a police officer, and he feels that it's worth a shot to see if he can get Kevin back on the right track.

Much of Kick is made up of the foundational moments of Sergeant Brown and Kevin's relationship as they grow to trust each other, and the sergeant begins to see that Kevin is no juvenile delinquent. Kevin may have some anger issues and suffer from unfulfilled relational needs now that his father is gone, but those are matters that can be addressed much more effectively without the assistance of a jail cell. Maybe even Sergeant Brown, himself, can do something to help Kevin.

I expected that Walter Dean Myers, veteran that he is, might outpace his junior partner in the writing of this novel; however, I can't really say that either author outshone the other. They just worked together very well to create a good, engaging story, and the concentrated effort that they both put into it is obvious. Kudos to the master and his new protégé, and I wish them continued success.

The book, Kick , is about a 13 year-old boy named Kevin Johnson. He was a teenager headed to juvenile hall. Kevin had potential to be a great teenager, and was a star striker Highland New Jersey, soccer team. His team were competing in the state cup, and Kevin wants to show people that his true potential and how good he really is. He has never been in serious trouble before, until he tried to help out a friend. He was driving a car without a license and crashed into a light pole.Kevin is on probation so he tries to stay out of trouble by playing soccer. It's really hard for him because he has a bad temper. Sergeant Brown is the officer assigned to keep an eye on him, to make sure he stays out of trouble and be his mentor. Kevin and Brown don't usually get along, but they have to if Kevin wants to change, so he can play in the State Cup.
I thought the ending was the best part of the book.It was a happy ending when Kevin finally decided to change his behavior, and him and his team won the State Cup.Kevin and Brown didn't see eye-eye but at the end they got along really well and became friends. This book compared to Walter Dean Myers other books was one of the best.I believe he put more effort than the other books he wrote.I think he took his time writing this book because it was supposed to give the reader a message. The message in this book was to never give up,and to choose wisely in the choices you make.
This book was overall a fantastic book.I rate this book a 10/10, because it was one of the best books I've read from this author. I recommend reading this book if you like playing soccer and want to read for entertainment. Walter Dean Myers is a great author, his books are really inspiring, because he encourages the reader to do their best in sports, and if you practice you can get really good. This was Walter”s best book I’ve read so far.

Kevin Johnson is a thirteen year old star soccer player for his team in New Jersey. He has his moments when he goes over the top when he gets angry, but he never goes too far. Until one night. When Kevin winds up in jail his life changes. And somehow, all he can think about is the State Cup his team is competing in in a few weeks. Kevin knows he can't miss that game, he is one of the best on his team. Will he behave or get too overwhelmed and make a bug mistake on the field.
Sergeant Brown has been in the force for a long time. He had been assigned to be Kevin's mentor during this entire stressful and tense time in the Johnson's life. They don't see eye to eye on everything but what if seeing eye to eye is the only way to get Kevin out of trouble. Sergeant Brown and Kevin will need to trust each other, or things may go terribly wrong.
Kick is a great book. You don't know what the main character is going to do next and it always leaves you wondering what if. You don't have to love soccer to enjoy this book.

Walter Dean Myers has long been my go to recommendation for young men who don't think books still matter to them. So seeing that he'd tried his hand at a soccer player's story, I was quite hopeful.

The story of Kick is in keeping with Myers talents (a gifted kid on the brink of trouble, trying to hold himself and his family together against an urban/sporty backdrop). But the execution is uneven. His co-author (teenage writer Ross Workman) is just finding his voice and occasionally lapses into tangents, or character decisions that can leave you scratching your head. In the audiobook I listened to he was further burdened with a narrator who never raised the emotional stakes above those of an oral presentation in English class.

The concept is good, the use of other cultures strong and the literary allusions (Yeats and Marquez) edifying. But the final execution is a little cliche, and the drama, hopelessly muted. I'll still recommend Myers and hope to see more efforts from Workman, but this was not quite the stellar outing I (and other fans) might hope for.

In my opinion, Kick is a well executed book that I could relate to my own personal life in different ways. It starts out with an officer and his typical day job. However, the case he took this time was the investigation of a man who committed the crime is the son to an ex-officer in the force. The authors Walter D. Myers & Ross Workmen used this book with a unique feel of two main characters. What I mean by this is that throughout the story, the perspective of the two characters change somewhat frequently making the feel of two people being the main character. However, during the execution of doing the flip between two of the main characters can be confusing to those who are easily lost in stories. The conclusion to the book can be shocking to those who expect the perfect typical happy ending. The up-side of this is that this book is short and sweet and will keep you entertained. The ending might be ironic, but who doesn't like a good ironic ending, right? I would recommend Kick to readers who enjoy a good crime and conflict book with a hint of sporting.

In the book Kick by Walter Dean Myers and Ross Workman there is a boy named Kevin who gets in trouble and it involves a car wreck involving him and a girl. Kevin plays soccer for his school and is nervous about juvie and charges. There is a police sergeant named Jerry Brown who tries to help Kevin and find out what happened during that night. Kevin is a very talented soccer player but has some issues that affect him. Kevin's mother is disappointed and the girls father is angry but Sergeant Brown tries to talk to him.
I think that is a good book in general even though with the changing perspectives after each chapter can get confusing but also helps add some suspense to the story. It uses good imagery as you can pretty much see the story unfold in your head. The book has a very good plot and it does a good job using time in the story as the questioning of Kevin and the soccer games go along. This is a really good book with a good plot and imagery.

Kick by Walter Dean Myers is about a thirteen year old boy named Kevin Johnson. Kevin tries to help his freind Christy and ends up in juvie for many charges, such as theft, kidnapping, and driving without a license. A police officer by the name of sergeant Jerry Brown takes the case in hopes of trying to help Kevin figure out what he did, why it was wrong, and how to fix it in a verry simple way. After many weeks of working with Kevin sergeant Brown learned that Kevin really wasn't a bad kid and that he just made some really really bad decisions. To know what happens in the end and to get a more in depth look at the book read it yourself.

Kick is a very brief story about soccer and a kid in the wrong place at the wrong time. In collaboration with an actual young adult, Ross Workman, Walter Dean Myers has co-authored a story which is sure to be a hit with the athletic, male reluctant reader set.

Kevin was a preteen that just wanted to help a friend out, but his intentions turned bad to the police after he was caught in a car with his friend, so he was taken to detention center where he was awaiting his trial, then he was lucky enough to have counselling from sergeant brown. He was closely watched. He made a couple mistakes at first, but then grew to be a good kid. this book is about development, forgiveness and friendship.

2/3 in it's a 4 star book... A real pageturner... But the ending was very anticlimactic... No real drama , made it all feel a little pointless... An interesting experiment but disappointing... However I did read a preprinted... Maybe final book was touched up... Big fan of Myers...

Walter Dean Myers is a fantastic writer. I have read a few of his books, but this book is not the best. Kick is not a terrible book, however it could be a lot better. If you were to ask me if you should read it, I would say that you should give the book a chance.

Book review for Kick

For the very first time in his decades-long career writing for teens, acclaimed author Walter Dean Myers writes with a teen, Ross Workman. They each wrote the young adult novel with the perspectives of the main character, Kevin and officer brown. The title of the book is “kick” by the authors are Walter Dean Myers and Ross Workman. The book was published February 1st 2011 by HarperTeen. Walter Dean Myers was a writer of children’s books best known for young adult literature. He was born in Martinsburg, West Virginia, but was raised in Harlem, New York City.He wrote more than one hundred books including picture books and nonfiction. He won the Coretta Scott King award for African American authors five times.
The story opens up with Sargent Brown going to meet his friend who is a judge so they can catch up. While he was there, his friend tells him that a kid named Kevin was arrested recently and that he wants Sargent Brown to help him since Kevin’s dad was a cop that was killed. We get explained that Kevin was arrested for driving without a licence, kidnaping, grand theft auto, and crashing the owner's car and him wanting to press charges. The other person in the car was the owner’s daughter. Then we meet Kevin in juve where he is after being arrested there we learn that he enjoys playing soccer and that if he says in juve he will not be able to play in the big state tortimer. He is then taken to the judge where it gets explained to him what is going to happen in the upcoming weeks. Sergeant Brown talks with the man that is pressing charges and tries to convince him not to press charges but it does not work. Kevin has to show that he is not a violent person and that he does not act in criminal ways. But at his first soccer game after he was in juve for a day he stands up to an opposing player ;after he did a dirty move, by punching him in the face and gets ejected out of the game and suspended for the next game. Sergeant Brown tells him that he needs to calm down and control his anger in those situations. Kevin then tries to prove himself to sergeant brown by helping him on a case that was never solved. The case is about illegal immigrants and if they are being paid enough by their employer’s but no one will say anything because they don’t want to be exported from the US. Kevin goes to follow a friend of his who is an immigrant that is working as a housekeeper at his friend's house. He follows her home and then tells sargent brown where she lives, but sergeant brown tells him that he can’t do anything with that information science other people say Kevin is following her. Sergeant Brown tells Kevin not to help with this case and not to do anything dangerous but Kevin decides he will keep helping on the case and not tell Sergeant Brown anything until he figures everything out on the case to prove himself to Sergeant Brown.
The cover of the book is a boy holding a ball in front of a soccer net to represent kevins love for soccer and the importance for kevin to not go to juve so he can play in the big state championship soccer game.Other people would enjoy this book because when i say the book I did not think there was going to be an interesting storyline where a kid gets arrested and has to prove that he was doing what he was doing for a good reason but he doesn't want to tell the real reason that he did all that. This book is directed towards teanangers so I recommended that teenagers read this book. This book has two different authors each writing half of the book. It is different reading two different writing styles in the book. I feel the book was complete. It closed all points it brought up in the book and did not leave any questions at the end.
I would give this book 3.5stars out of 5.

The book that I read called “Kick”, was a very interesting book. The author had a very persuasive way into really making me like this book. I was amazed on how the writer, Walter Dean Myers, was able to use advice/info from a teen named Ross Workman and were both able to write up this masterpiece of a book.
The book Kick is about this teen named Kevin Johnson, who is a star soccer player and was going to compete in a state championship but ended up convicted of a crime and set on parole. Kevin was arrested for being in a car wreck with a girl and driving a car without a license that didn't belong to him. Kevin's parole officer Sergeant Brown is another principal character in this story. Sergeant Browns is assigned to Kevin to be a mentor and has to make sure that he stays out of trouble. With all these things happening to Kevin and having to go from one problem to a different one is very stressful for him. Kevin has to make sure that not only does he need to watch his anger issues but also so he doesn't get sent to a jail again. But with Sergeant Brown having to find out more about what happened to Kevin in the crash, he has to build a friendly relationship and mentor him to see that he's a good person who's focused with his future goals.
The author Walter Dean Myers and co author Ross Workman did a good job in the making of this book. It demonstrates the way they created an engaging story and uses two different points of views in first-person, to show creative strength. You can see how Walter Myers and Ross Workman really had a good bond in the making of the book. They helped each other by learning from each other's way of writing like for example Ross Workman's way of using words to describe the soccer scenes that happen throughout the book. Walter Myers decades of experience in writing also shows how at first Kevin and Sergeant Brown don't really agree with each other's ideas at first and then work with each other and have a friendship later in the story. Walter Myers does a good job with these two main characters and gives the reader a way to inference on what happens next in the story.
In my opinion I recommend this book because it relates to the young adults and people who like sports. Even if you don't like reading books, Walter Dean Myers and Ross Workman both find ways to relate to the young audience and also include ways on how teens think about what to do in stressful situations. It lets the reader experience suspenseful actions that happen to Kevin and also see how it's difficult to speak up about things that teens feel uncomfortable with and don’t have anyone to speak with about it. This book doesn't disappoint and will have you wanting to know what happens next since there's always a new problem.
“Kick”, by Walter Dean Myers and Ross Workman really is a good book that could persuade athletes into reading it and probably have a similar connection to it. Also it was a good book to read and will have people really question the ending of it.

The best book in the school is Kick by Walter Dean Myers, it's going to be talking about a 13 year old kid named Kevin Johnson who is a really c good soccer player that can't stay away from trouble and ends up in jail so let's begin. q q In the beginning he was pulled over and caught by a police officer for reckless driving and driving under the influence and so they take him into the station and had a talk with him and got arrested only for the night and had to spend the night in jail but his parents came and got him out of jail but he still had to go to school and he got bad looks left and right everyone was making fun of him then he had to go to soccer tryouts for the school team he made the team but then had to go court and go in front of a judge and he was so scared like and almost peed himself but then the court date got pushed back a little longer so he could go play his soccer game and they won the game but when he was in the courtroom he was ready with his stuff of why he was driving he was driving to the gas station and was hungry but he got out of going to Juvenal and when he got back on the soccer field his coach made him run till he almost puked and died and passed out But when he was done with practice he went to his parents and his coach and said i'm sorry and it will never happen again and it never happened again but then they had a couple games and they won some and they lost some but at the end of the day they was in the first rival game of the season and they won at the last second and then they was on the to state tournament and if they won that game they would be put in another to tournament which put them in Florida then they get to the state championship game down two and the kick it and its good only down by one and then they get a steal and he hits it overtime rules were free kicks and they won the state tournament and they went down to Florida and won being the number 1 team in the nation.

I would recommend this book to a person who loves sports like soccer

The book “Kick” is a pretty good book that can remind people of their childhood and teen years. The main character, Kevin is a young kid who is caught driving his friends dads car at night. Although nothing serious happened, the cops that dealt with the case at the time felt that something was wrong. Kevin must now deal with this while trying to compete for the state soccer tournament. What happened that night with Kevin and his friends? How does this get resolved?
Kevin is a good kid with a good family background. Kevin’s dad was a nice cop that knew everybody at the police station and was killed in the line of duty. Kevin and his mother had to go to the police station to figure out what punishment Kevin will receive. Having Kevin's dad as a police officer helps himself and gets a lower punishment. At the police station, Kevin and his mother agree to have officer Brown mentor and help Kevin out. Officer Browns job is to find out what really happened to Kevin that night. Throughout the book the chapters take the reader through what happened from Kevin’s prospective and officer Brown’s prospective. This is interesting because the reader can see the story from both sides of the story. The book gets really interesting once the reader starts to break into the case. You must read the book to find out.
There are many positives and negatives to this book. A few of the positives would be that the reader can see what the kid is thinking as long as the officer. Another positive is that this book is balanced between trying to fit in and do well in school and sports and dealing with real life situations. A few of the negatives are that it can be deceiving in some spots portraying the fact that you can get into trouble and have no punishment based off your name. Overall, the book was a good read and fairly easy. To find out what happened to Kevin read the book “Kick” to learn more facts about what happened.

This is my second choice book fourth quarter. The main character is Kick is Kevin Johnson. Kevin is a great soccer player. One night, Kevin was driving without license, kidnapping Christy, destruction of property and giving false answers. Someone called the police and the police sent Kevin to jail. Bill and Sergeant brown talked about what Kevin did. Bill told Sergeant Brown all about the night Kevin was driving. When Kevin was in jail, Sergeant Brown asked Kevin what happened and about Kevin. Later, Sergeant Brown met with Kevin's mom and grandma and told them about what happened. Kevin's mom told Sergeant Brown that Kevin is a good boy. Kevin was being good in jail and got sent out. Kevin had missed a game because he was in jail that day there was a game. When Kevin went to school everyone knew he got sent to the jail and kept on looking at him which reminded Kevin of three years ago when his dad died and it felt like he died. Later, Kevin still played soccer and won about five games, lost one game. Kevin missed one game and wanted the game to lose to see how useful he is. Sergeant Brown visited Kevin afterschool and even went to watch Kevin's game. Kevin even taught Sergeant Brown some soccer. In the last game, Kevin scored three points for his game and won that game. Kevin's team won more than the other team, so his team went to the semi finals. Kevin's team was doing well in the semi finals and won. Kevin's team were the champions.

The book is “Kick” by author, Walter Dean Myers. The main character is Kevin Johnson who is a young talented soccer player, who never got into trouble till one day he makes an unwise decision that turns things around in his life.
Sergeant Brown is my favorite character because he is helping Kevin with his case. The background they gave Sergeant Brown makes his character come to life. With all the things happening in the book, such as the perspective of the story switching between the characters, sergeant brown and Kevin Johnson, It makes it easier to get an understanding of the story line of the book. The book was very good and it really got my interest on the the book, which made me want to see what was next in the story. The narration in the book really helped add suspense into the story.
One thing that I did not like about this book was that the beginning of the story was a bit confusing because Kevin got arrested and I thought It would mainly be about soccer. There was a part of the story that was just there and had no point in the story, which is the immigrant workers.
This book is very intriguing and interesting with a lot of twist and turns to the story line. I think that this book would best fit readers who are into a good mystery, crime, novel with some soccer stuff. I would rate this novel a four out of five.

Kick is a mystery by Walter Dean Myers that depicts a boy named Kevin. Kevin is a Hispanic soccer player for his high school, and he is also friends with a girl named Christy who alongside him gets into trouble. Due to this Kevin is arrested for grand theft auto and damage causing him to be visited by detective brown. Detective Brown helps Kevin throughout the book trying to figure out how to get him out of the trouble he has put himself in. This creates a sense of friendship between the two and develops throughout the story.
Walter Dean Myers uses each chapter to take a look at the crime from the two perspectives of Kevin and Detective Brown. Even though Kevin doesn’t admit why he actually was at the crime scene for a while into the book this just increases the amount you want to read so that you can find out the actual reason. This was a good strategy on Myers part because it keeps the reader interested on the plot even though it’s rather basic and shallow.
I believe this book is a good quick book to read, but I wouldn’t recommend it for the reason that it isn’t very descriptive and doesn’t go as in depth into the crime as it could’ve. Though if someone is looking for something to read that is short and sorta engaging then I can recommend this book.

Sergeant Jerry Brown is asked to look into a case of Kevin Johnson, a 13-year old arrested for car theft and kidnapping. Kevin was with another 13-year old, Christy, driving Christy's dad's car. Kevin has a few secrets to keep and isn't sure if he can trust Sergeant Brown. His own father was killed in the line of duty and Kevin doesn't know how to handle the grief and anger that come with that. He's sure that he was doing a good thing for Christy but it has definitely gotten him into trouble. As Kevin tries to help Sergeant Brown with another case, play soccer, and keep his nose out of trouble, something will have to give. When he finally decides to tell what happened the night in question, will it all work out?

This is told in alternative voice and has many subplots. They are mostly handled well, the subplot of the illegal aliens feel like it came out of left field. Kevin and Jerry are both great characters. The chapters aren't identified with who is speaking but it's easy to figure out. Highly enjoyable.

I think Kick is a good book; it teaches you a lot of different things. Something very cool about the book is that it has 2 different morals of the story. There is a part where it is soccer and another part of the accident that Kevin had. It teaches you no matter what, still try no matter what situation you're in. It is good that they talk a lot about soccer but at the same time there is a problem. The book also teaches you that everybody deserves a 2nd chance. Kick also does not have many pages if you are not a good reader and you don't like long books, this could be a very good book for you. Something I did not like was that it explained the book too slowly. Another bad thing was that it told what really happened late in the book. In conclusion I would recommend this book to all people especially the ones that like soccer. I would rate this book a solid 3.7 out of 5. An important fact about the book is that it is not very hard to read, if you have trouble reading.

The name of my book is called Kick written by Walter Dean Myers, and this book has really inspired me because it's about soccer and I myself love to play soccer. The book is about this boy which is the main character named Kevin and in the book Kevin made one mistake in his life which caused him to end up in jail but the good thing is that the officer that looked in his case was like family relative. The officer tried helping him to not stay in jail for life. After that the officer does help him and he gets out of jail but the one thing is that he had to be playing a sport, so that's when he mentioned that he plays soccer and then he was put in a team and that’s when it all started and where he became a good player. The major plot event would be the about where he starts to play soccer and that’s what basically changes his life My opinion on the book would be that’s it's a great book I myself enjoyed the book mainly because it’s related to soccer. The target audience for this book would be the people that love and play soccer.
