It's lovely to come back to early Islamic stuff after so long away! Al-Farabi is a crazy guy who speaks an outrageous amount of sense, at least in his first 25 chapters on the spiritual, temporal, celestial-sublunary etc., the rest is a more difficult politics to understand, but with Magnus' help anything might happen. So far this is the best, if also most abstracted, explanation/description of the soul as immaterial and what that means for life in a material world, and how intellectual and moral edification is the route to an all-saving truth of eternal felicity. Good Book.
