It took me two years to read Proust, and in the middle ordered this book to help me keep the names straight over those years. This book did just that. I was surprised to find on opening the book that it was from Xlibris, a self-publishing press--it would have been called a vanity press. I admired the author for having the faith to publish the book after, I imagined, it had ben rejected by conventional publishers.
Looking it up on Amazon after being reminded of it recently, I was happy to see that a very expanded version has now been published by Vintage, Marcel Proust's Search for Lost Time: A Reader's Guide to The Remembrance of Things Past, and I look forward to reading it. The book's page on Amazon has a very lengthy excerpt in which the author dares to compare his efforts to Monty Python's "All-England Summarize Proust Competition."
