Friends and Enemies is about a boy named William who left a town in Kansas called Topeka and went to a town named Plaintown. He made a few friends in Plaintown, but most of the people there were his enemies, but he tried to make them his friends.

Friends and Enemies is also about William being friends with a boy named Jim, who is also a German Mennonite. Once William acted mean to Jim because he kicked him in the leg, because he thought that Jim smashed some wood and planes that he had created at one of his jobs. He worked on a farm and at a house to make toy model planes. Jim said he didn't touch the planes. William replied, "Yes you did. I saw five planes smashed."

I liked this book because of friendships that were made. It taught me that we should not be mean to our enemies but to make friends with them and not act like them even though it is hard.

So far it talks about the war. It talks about religion. Which is Mennonites,Christians,Jews, and Nazis. It is about this boy who is a preachers son.Thre is the bully Clive. The preachers son makes model airplanes over the summer and displays them at the fair. He hears a call from the fair people. He rushes over
to see that his model planes have been smashed. Who could have done such a thing? Jim,Barry or Clive!

I read this book for school. I wasn't excited for it but in the end I really liked this book. I wish there was more of a friendship between William and John.
