I like my men tall, dark, and dead. I’ve killed more of them than I can count and I just got a new assignment—a ruthless mafia boss who’s big on human trafficking.
Glee fizzes in my stomach as I slowly bait the trap for this bastard. Everything is perfect. Until someone messes up my kill.
A broad-shouldered beast of a man with green eyes and a smile molded by the devil himself, accompanied by a slim guy with glasses who’s the silent but dangerous type.
What the hell?
When I confront the bastards—the brawny one tells me they’ve also been hired to kill the mafia don, and they plan to collect.
“Sorry, sweetheart, but that reward is ours.”
Are you kidding me?
Now, I have to regroup and try and pull off this kill before my rivals can.
Oh, but I will. I’m going to show those motherfuckers I’m the queen of death. That’s why my name’s Royal.
Author’s This is a standalone mutli-love interest book with violence and explicit scenes and an HEA. Check the author's note inside for more direct information to see if this book is a fit for you.
This book had me up til 3am 🥵 Ann Denton is one of my top 3 most read authors and for a reason! 👀🔥
This is a why choose contemporary standalone romance with deadly assassins, enemies to lovers, mental health rep, lots of banter and dom/sub power play and it’s packed with morally gray characters! The story is character driven and I’m OBSESSED with Royal and all 3 of the criminals that are after her 👀
Royal is an assassin, trained since a very young age. She is part of a secret organisation of killers, the Belladonna’s, and has never missed a kill. That is, until some extremely hot assassins mess up her latest assignment. Now she’s running against time as she tries to kill her latest target before this infuriating (and extremely good looking) group of men.
I have a thing for broken scarred bad boys who aren’t afraid to take what they want 💀Tyler gave me Kaz Brekker vibes but naughty lol ! there is also some light BDSM which is always a bonus 😉
Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy for review!
4.5-5⭐️ based off the vibes and how it made me feel!!
The humor omggggg. 🤣 It was continuous yet unexpected?! I barked laughing. Do you know how unattractive that sound is? I didn’t even care 😂. ROYAL IS A GOD DARN MF’N QUEEN. I WANT MORE. LET’S RIOT IF WE DON’T GET MORE OF ROYAL.
She was fabulous, hilarious, honorable, and tragic. While, y’know, also being an assassin. 💅. She absolutely owned her sexuality-I wanted to bow down to her. I NEED more of this in my romances from FMCs. There was absolutely no shame at all, she’d say what she thought all the time 🤩.
"Don't have such hot teammates if you don't want me to fuck them…Seriously. There are plenty of ugly assassins out there. Pick some of them. Don't blame me for your poor life choices."
This was also one of the few times where the author used the term OCD and intrusive thoughts correctly. The character actually had this disorder and you could see how it impacted her throughout the scenes in the book. Royal deserved 10⭐️s tbh. I dreaded finishing the book because I knew I wouldn’t be reading anymore of her.
The men! They were pretty fly 😎. We got to see them all individually develop meaningful emotions with Royal which was endearing. There were some hiccups along the way 👀 but the storyline was sooooo good. Love the way everything unfolded. Also really enjoyed how they didn’t take over the story? It was really all about Royal with a bonus of romance.
This series (of standalones) just keeps getting better and better.
What a fun read! Royal is a standalone romance novel that gave me all the Totally Spies meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith vibes. It was fast-paced, hilarious, hot. A read I definitely recommend if you love sassy protagonists and why choose romance.
While I did love the assassin/spy element of the plot, this was definitely a background to the romance, which was very well done. All the characters are exceptional on their own. Royal is an extremely confident woman, but not without her vulnerabilities. Much of this was due to her OCD, which often put her in uncomfortable situations when it came to her job and her interactions with the men of her harem—men, who were all incredible! There’s something for everyone: Tyler is the man you want for a possessive, dominating man, Avery is the sweetheart of the group, and Colt is the brute strength with the heart of gold. I loved all of them, but Avery and Colt were by far my favorites, and the ones that, to a degree, better complimented Royal’s strong personality.
I would have liked to see a bit more of an investigation given the premise of the book, but I fully enjoyed following the developments of this romance and the fun banter between the characters. Not only did I love the relationship between Royal and each of the boys, but the friendship and camaraderie between the men was also so heartwarming. These are my favorite types of harem dynamics!
Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own.
Oh my gosh, this is definitely my new favorite Ann Denton book. Royal is a trained assassin who loves to work alone. When a team of male assassins messes up her mission, she’s forced to work with them to find the mark that they’ve all been tasked to find. And y’all….the tension is sooo good! There’s fantastic banter and such great enemies to lovers vibes. This book is a stand-alone multi-love interest HEA, and I def recommend.
Thanks to the author for gifting me a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
"I wish men were as easy to handle as a fucking Glock." I sigh in disappointment at the fact that even though they both love to shoot rounds into people, and even though their trigger mechanism is relatively easy to understand... the inner workings of a dude are not quite so clear.
This was one bloody awesome book! And that's being said by someone who doesn't often like standalones, let alone love them as much as I loved this one. "Royal" simply has it all: an intriguing storyline, lots of action and suspense, a wonderful balance between darkness and humor, insta-lust with enemies-to-lovers vibes, and last but not least: amazing characters!
Royal is an amazing fmc; I absolutely love her banter and how much she gets a thrill from pushing these men's buttons until they explode in a mix of lust and fury. She's funny, slightly unhinged, but with a heart that's too big for her chest. The spice is extremely hot, and that's the case with every one of her three men, but I admit I have a slight preference for Tyler. He's the kind of man I would love to call "daddy" sometimes ;-).
This might have been the first book I've read by this author, but it definitely won't be the last.
I ate this book up like it was perfection 😘🤌. Not only was Royal Number 71 a bad @$$, her harem of men were also amazing!! Loved reading this book. Would definitely recommend.
Royal is dark, funny in that I-shouldn’t-laugh-but-I-am way, and powered entirely by audacity. Our FMC is a professional killer with a moral code (human traffickers get zero mercy), a flawless plan, and the confidence of someone who knows she’s the deadliest person in the room…until multiple rival assassins show up like they RSVP’d to her murder.
The humor is sharp and perfectly timed, the tension never lets up, and the assassin-on-assassin energy is pure chaos. There’s banter layered over genuine danger, egos colliding mid-kill, and a constant sense that everything could go sideways at any second, and that’s where the fun lives.
Royal herself is the standout: competent, lethal, unapologetic, and wildly entertaining to live inside the head of. She doesn’t beg for space on the page, she takes it. 👑🩸
If you enjoy dark humor, morally gray chaos, and characters who solve problems with violence and sarcasm in equal measure, this one absolutely hits.
Ok this was hilarious and extremely entertaining! I loved the humor along with the wittiness of Royal. I loved the fact that she owned herself and she carried all of it with pride.. although she struggled with her ocd… there was empowerment throughout the book. I’m a sucker for FMC assassins and this was action packed. I dove into this without reading a synopsis and I have to say this was a pleasant surprise.
For those loving spice and not having to choose a love interest, this is perfect for you… I can’t decide which guy I love the most. The spicy scenes were hot hot. The chemistry between the live interests was great, I enjoyed the banter and the sweet parts too! The plot was awesome, I enjoyed the pace… definitely looking forward to the next book.
Huge thanks to the author for gifting me an ecopy. All opinions are my own.
What do you get when you have a quirky assassin falling for her rivals? You get a fun standalone story. Royal is a delightful character with complicating issues. Her OCD makes her struggle with self esteem and is making this assassination difficult. This job is one where anything that could go wrong, does go wrong. Her rivals don’t make it easy for her. I enjoyed seeing her individual relationships grow organized. The story was well written and entertaining. I would definitely recommend reading this book.
I’ve come to the conclusion that Ann Denton can do no wrong when it comes to Why Choose romances. ROYAL was such a fun read, starring an all-assassin cast, action worthy of spy movies and scorching hot romance (4/5 spice rating). If you were a fan of Totally Spies growing up, you’re bound to enjoy this read.
Royal fit perfectly in the confident and sassy protagonist type that I love, but I also enjoyed the glimpses of her vulnerable side, especially when it came to her OCD. The best part about this story was the relationship with the three assassins after her same mark: Tyler, Avery and Colt. I will never tire of saying that the secret to a successful Why Choose romance for me is to have the men united by more than the love for the same woman, and this was definitely the case! The brotherhood between these three very different men made the interactions with Royal and each other all the more explosive! For the best part of the book I was mostly a Tyler girlie—and you will be too if an adult Kaz Brekker who loves to touch and has a dominant streak sounds like your idea of a good time—but admittedly Colt snuck up on me with his brutish ways and secret softness.
The only thing I was missing was a stronger plot element. The romance is very much the focus of the story, but I think I would have enjoyed a more forced cooperation/investigation dynamic to push at the comfort zone of all the characters and create more intimate moments that went beyond the physical attraction. This, however, is a very personal opinion and in no way impacted my overall enjoyment of the story or the romance. This book was a fun time, start to finish, and I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for something fast that will raise your body temperature *wink wink*
Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own.
I had such a fun time reading this! The story was entertaining and the setting well done. I loved the characters and actually had to laugh out loud multiple times. Was it the best story I’ve ever read? Nope, but it actually delivered far more than I’ve expected. Some parts even were surprisingly deep.
I felt kinda let down by the ftb at the end bc there was so much buildup throughout the book. But… okay 🤷🏻♀️
On a special note: I’m not that much into epilogues but I actually loved it here. It complements the story and doesn’t seem like a forced cheesy look into the future.
I was not expecting this to be as good as it was!!!! I love the crazy the FMC lives in. Her mind is freaking amazing. There were only two things that I wished could have been different. One, the scene on the air would have played out. Two, a little more for Avery. The romance was great, but poor Avery seemed to get left behind. Not literally. I just wished the romance would have been more with them. The other two were good. I felt their connection. Other than that, freaking amazballs. The jobs, the gifts, and the ending was perfect. I highly recommend this book!!!! Thus is perfect for the people who love bada** females and alpha males. Check the trigger warning because the conversations get dark.
This was a wonderfully fun and quick read!! Reverse harem with very very intriguing men and a sassy FMC. You have an actual plot, a story that flows, funny and sexy parts, and characters that you can’t help but love. Do I recommend you read this? Would I bother with a review if I didn’t?! Read it!!!!
I loved that there was so much action in this story. Royal's humor cracked me up while her trauma broke me. She was definitely a strong, bad, whitty fmc.
Ann Denton is a relatively new author for me, but so far I've liked all of her books, and Royal is not an exception.
I love how strong, independent and, let's not forget funny, Royal is. She's an assassin who has the job to kill a mafia boss, but other assassins with the same job stand in her way. Royal has no intention to leave them off the hook. It's her kill, and they won't take him away from her. However, sparks fly.
It's my first title in the Dressed to Kill series, and now I can't wait to read the other standalone in this shared world.
The first third of this book I really enjoyed. Royal was such a cool and interesting character especially her badassery and training which were more than the guys ever expected! Somewhere along the way she kind of went soft and gooey and that's where I disconnected a bit from the story. It doesn't help that I was at work for the second half of the book so note that can account for my opinions but it really kind of felt like the second half was off from the first. Sure Royal redeems herself in the end by taking on the guys' enemies I'm just not sure where this soft hearted side came from. They all meet on a mission and the rest they say is history.... of course for assassins the road to happiness will have some bumps along the way! Looking forward to more from this series, nothing like a female assassin taking on baddies and finding their HEA.
The nice thing about auto-buy authors is that once in a while I read a book I normally wouldn't have picked up. Don't get me wrong. When it comes to reverse harem I can handle contemporary books a lot better than within other genres but it will still never be my favorite. However, this one, and the connected ones by Katie May and Marie Mistry, have been on my wishlist ever since they were announced and I was so happy when I could get an arc.
For some reason I had expected this book to be a little darker. I was therefore very positively surprised how entertaining and light hearted the book was. It's totally a book about assassins. They are trying to get a job done and get a guy killed. But quite often the book is hilarious and I've laughed out loud quite a lot while reading this book. Partly because of the entire situation. Partly because of the characters involved.
Although there is some instant attraction between all these characters, there is also time for the characters to talk and get to know each other. Especially the chapters where Royal is talking to Colt are really emotional and really help to get to know all the characters involved quite well. And although our heroine's way of handling things can seem quite funny sometimes it's clear that there is a depth and a lot of sadness to her too.
I also really loved the tension in this book. Although there is of course smut in this book there isn't even that much smut in this book. There is just an awful lot of tension. Especially when during the first part of the book Royal is holding Avery hostage I might have enjoyed the building up towards the smut even more than the smut itself because it was so well done and I could really feel that something was going to happen, we just didn't know when.
I now can't wait to pick up Harlow (which is a big book) and get to meet her and her guys!
Royal by Ann Denton is her contribution to the "Dressed to Kill" series, and this stand-alone novel is an absolute must-read! You are going to be cheering Royal on through all of her antics, and drooling over the deliciously steamy scenes between herself and the gorgeous men in this book. I'm more than a little jealous. LOL! Royal hits you with a good dose of hilarity. Royal is a touch OCD, but she's a kick-butt assassin, until things get thrown off the rails with a trio of men (also assassins) mess up one of her marks. So. What ensues? A game of "one-up." They are both out for the same mark. For very different reasons, but the chemistry that blooms is tough to turn away from. Avery is the favorite because of his absolute sweetness, but the dominance of the other two has them nipping at his heels. LOL! Tyler is absolutely a close second and I'm sure you'll agree when you dive into this novel. Absolutely delicious from beginning to end. Remember, this is a standalone novel, so you also get a nice and tidy ending with a HEA. 4.5 out of 5 stars since I wasn't a fan of Royal getting so easily distracted by the guys. It was a bit stereotypical in my opinion. Yes, the guys get a bit flustered, too, but they do a better job at staying focused on the task at hand more than her.
Royal is the fourth released standalone in the Dressed to K!ļļ series AND I AM LITERALLY OBSESSED with this series! Royal is an assassin, just like the other leading ladies, trained by the Belladonnas. She is in a race against time to take out her target before her rival organization, Avery, Tyler, and Colt, does the job.
THIS WAS SOOOO FUN! You have wit, sassy humor, rivals to lovers, think Mr. And Mrs. Smith vibes. You also have mystery, suspense, intrigue, mental health rep, fast burn, HOOOOOT chemistry/steam, and of course action. If I could rate this higher, I so would!!!
3.5⭐️. I put this in as 4 because it was a lot of fun, and I’d recommend it to people who can turn their brains off and just enjoy the entertainment. I sat with this for a few days around the half way point while deciding whether I liked it as much as I thought I did.
THE PROS Royal is funny and thoroughly likable. The premise is interesting. I like the writing style. Spice, when we get it, is well done. Despite the issues with this particular book, it has a lot of promise. I’ve never read this author before and took a chance on her bc of KU, and I’ll be trying more of her work.
THE CONS The book is unfinished. There are many typos (missing words, missing punctuation even at the end of sentences, etc). The formatting is weird, even after I tried to fix it in my Kindle settings. The characters and the plot are underdeveloped, IMO. Tropes are signaled but we never get the payoff for them. It has the promise of a five-star book that never came to fruition. It seems rushed and incomplete.
*SPOILERS AHEAD FOR CONTEXT* All of the guys are pretty flat. Perhaps that’s a me thing, but they all come across as brooding-mercenary type. They dislike her, they get spicy, suddenly they’re in puppy love. They all have essentially the same personality, despite having these very interesting, distinct back stories (except to a lesser extent Avery, who’s really just a younger version of the other guys). Tyler is supposed to be age gap, maybe?
The entire book we get comments about group activities, but the only chance is the very end of the book and it’s FTB? All bark and no bite, kind of a let down. As someone who reads a lot of why choose/reverse harem, this is not it. One example of what I mean by tropes being signaled but then not executed fully.
Twists were meh. The ending isn’t really an ending, IMO. The twist with Fadoul (who we don’t get any introduction to) is underwhelming. While it makes the fight fun, it was pretty underwhelming and inconsequential. Could have been much more dramatic.
I love the concept of Royal’s character, but the way she describes herself is so out of step with her actions. She talks about hyper-planning and has these OCD-like fixations, but in practice is like 90% Id/10% Ego. She’s beyond reckless at times, fails to see things coming like the last chapter even when she’s been watching the guys, and it’s so at-odds with who we see in the first chapter as a world-class assassin who is so good no one knows who she is.
She should know exactly how much of the berries are appropriate, and I though she was just trying to make them sick? Then there’s this long guilt trip about attempted killing but they were clearly just sick? No internal dragging about how reckless it was, how she failed to properly plan it, just 2D guilt that isn’t really explained other than that it exists. Not even an, “oops, I assassin’d too hard.” And then it means nothing bc at the end Tyler forgives her and is like, “I’d have done the same.” So it was ultimately inconsequential. A contrived reason for conflict that didn’t feel authentic.
There were also times where I didn’t really understand what the location looked like. All these world-defining places, and the scenery isn’t even part of the story aside from Casablanca.
Like I said, I have a lot of thoughts 🙈. This one didn’t hit all the marks for me, but there was a lot there I did like and I think I’ll try one of the more popular series instead. I just wish more had been invested, it could have been amazing.

Ann Denton's contribution to the multi-author series, Dressed to Kill, is Royal and a fabulously chaotic ride it was. This book was all high-stakes, crazy drama, and humor. It's a must-read.
This book's femme fatale is Royal, a quirky assassin with a sense of humor whose trademark is to make her kills look like suicide. Royal is complex. Her brain works in weird and mysterious ways, then add in the OCD and ADD means her being an assassin makes for entertaining times. Royal is a little crazy and I love her more for it. She has a chipper personality and a bright spark but on the flip side, she has a darkness that at times tries to swallow her whole and I have to admit she had me tearing up at times.
What better match for an assassin and a harem of professional killers. Tyler, Avery, and Colt are Triple X, an assassin team that Royal plays a cat-and-mouse game with. Royal has been fecking with the guys through the entire book, it was glorious and humorous. They didn't know what to make of Royal, heck Royal didn't know what to make of herself. Tyler was the grumpy boss man, Avery was the adorable hacker who really needs a new line of work and Colt is the gruff one who turns out to be the easiest to win over, his darkness matching her's perfectly. Somehow, she connected with all of them on a deeper level beyond the instant attraction they all felt. It was fate that brought them together, a perfect match.
One of my favorite things about these types of books is the adventure aspects and Ann wasn't short on the beautiful backdrops and exciting action. Europe was a backdrop, with a mark who most definitely deserved what was coming to him add in the planning and fights, it was entertaining. Even more interesting was seeing missions planned out and how kickass Royal was. She made mistakes but always figured it out. I loved seeing her brain work things out, bringing a realistic quality to the story.
This is my first Ann Denton and I've never read anything like Royal. I am absolutely here for it. The quirky mfc, that is sunny and also dangerous af, and her dark and deadly men. Adventures on the high seas, deadly poisons, explosions, kidnappings, helicopters, and more. So much excitement. I loved this book. I'm always up for a good female assassin story and Royal is just the first book I've read in the Dressed to Kill series, I can't wait to read about her sisters.
OMG I couldn’t put this book down! This story is set in the Dressed to Kill series/world of female assassins who are part of a group known as the Belladonnas. Each book is a standalone telling the story of one of the women in the team, so you are fine starting off with Royal if you haven’t read the others yet. However, I highly recommend going back and reading the others too (and following the rest of the books that haven’t been released yet), just because the world is so interesting!
Royal is my favorite so far. She’s funny, smart, strong, and clever. I found her so relatable (despite her profession haha) and the more I learned about her, the more I wish I could just hang out with her and give her a big hug. I won’t go into the details of why I feel that way (and you probably will too), because that would get into spoiler territory that is best discovered naturally as the story unfolds.
Royal’s assignment is to take out a slimy human trafficker. She gets everything in place and perfectly aligned to ensure her target is taken off the board when she’s interrupted at the last minute by competing assassins. The target is kidnapped by her competition, and Royal needs to regroup and figure out how to proceed with her mission now that others are in the mix. The others? Well, they happen to be three very attractive men. Now it’s a race to see who can successfully take out the target and claim the kill, all while they face significant distraction through attraction to each other.
The book is fast paced with a good amount of steam. Royal has a great sense of humor – even if may partially be a coping mechanism? – and I really loved her interactions with the guys. She has a ton of chemistry with and relates to each of them as individuals. The way their relationships develop despite – or perhaps because of - the initial mistrust and questionable motives was fun to follow. The guys are all written very well, with motives and backgrounds that pulled me into the story and yanked hard at my heartstrings.
I would absolutely love Royal to get another story or even a series of her own somehow, because she’s such a fun, well-developed character and I have a feeling she has a lot of very interesting things to share.
OMG I love this book! It's a contemporary, action-adventure, reverse harem romance with four assassins, lots of villains, and steamy goodness. There's some good old-fashioned enemies to lovers, a bit of forced proximity, and a reverse kidnapping. Lots of funny parts and over the top situations, too. Mental health representation is in the mix, so read those TWs before the first chapter.
This book focuses on a job that Royal is working, but it all goes awry when a team of competitors show up. I love how Royal and these guys butt heads, compete, and work together, depending on the situation. All the characters have complicated personalities and back stories.
Royal, the female main character, has a hilarious inner voice which slips out at times. She's the funny one. She also has a case of OCD, A unique sense of style, and a few tricks up her sleeves. If this wasn't a contemporary story, I would think she's a superhero.
The guys - Avery, Colt, and Tyler - are also complicated people. Each one has a distinct voice, personality, and appearance. That added to my confusion on their relationship. (At times, it sounds like they're all brothers.). It's possible my wires got crossed because I zipped through this book. They also survive situations that I doubt a normal human would.
Having said that, once I suspended disbelief I loved this story. I wish it was longer. I would read Royal's prequel and/or sequel. These four would be an amazing team righting wrongs and saving people from bad guys.
Lots of typos and a few small glitches (like how did nobody get dehydrated?). I had to remind myself it's a work of fiction several times. But it's still a whirlwind adventure that I will reread with royal relish.
I have never read this author before and after reading this book, I am going to quickly rectify that! I need more of this author's writing asap!!! This book was so good! I loved everything about it.
Royal has a great story all by herself, one I wish we got more of! She is a raised assassin with a bunch of other assassin sisters and a father figure, named Man. She also has a very obsessive behavior. When one of her assignments gets messed up by another group of Assassins, Triple X, it sends her in overdrive and her ticks kick in immediately. Sparking a war between her and their group, it signifies the ultimate showdown.
The marc is found again in France and both Triple X (Tyler, Avery and Colt) and Royal are ready to collect. Only theirs only one of her and three of them. When they get the drop, Royal is not without her tricks and quickly kidnaps one. The sexiness...I mean, story continues from there!!!
"Best. Kidnapping. Ever....I don't ever want to go home."
Together, all of these characters are amazing! The author gives us great insight to each character's ticks and reasoning for why they are the way they are. Its steamy, funny and I definitely wanted more adventures from this group. The story also ends great, leaving you feeling all types of way. I loved this book and am definitely going to go check out more from this author asap!
"As dicks go, his is dicktacular."
"Everyone knows beast dick is better than human dick."
*Overall 5/5 *Heat? 5/5 *Fast Burn *First person POV (Mostly Royal, but the guys get some) *MFMM Romance (No MM) *Ends on HEA
A first read by this author and I’m definitely looking forward to reading more books by her. This had everything from action, danger, hot assassins, strong sassy must be in control FMC assassin with ocd issues, and so much more.
Avery is an assassin waiting for her mark when other assassin’s get in the way to steal her mark. Tyler, Avery and Colt are best friends and three very hot trained assassin’s who will get their mark and take out any rival that gets in their way. It’s when Avery lures them all onto a yacht out in the Mediterranean that things become really series for Royal. This is a fast paced action packed story you won’t want to miss.
These four characters were perfectly created and together they’re even more perfect. This is an enemies to lovers story of one woman who won’t have to choose between love interests. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat laughing one minute, fanning yourself the next then things get freaking crazy and you’ll be wtf!! Ends with a much deserved and needed HEA. This is Definitely a must read and I’m looking forward to reading the other stories in this shared world and more of Ann’s too. Highly recommended!!
*reverse harem *contemporary *multi-pov *quirky FMC *assassins all-round *mental health issues *established harem (3) *fast burn *standalone Good story and great characters 😄 Ok so I loved Royal, she’s quirky with a witty sense of humour; she’s sexually adventurous as well as maintaining an innocence; she’s a badA boss whilst openly vulnerable - full of dichotomies but it works for her! The men are certainly characters- we have Taylor the leader who is the damaged grumpy one; Avery the nerdy sweetheart who ended up in trouble; and Colt the hotheaded bear of a man with a soft core! 🥰 the push and pull between Royal and Taylor is crazy 🌶️, the instant attraction with Avery is hot; and the slow building enemy friend lover with colt is heartfelt! Essentially the men ‘Triple X’ and Royal are rivals after the same mark, Triple X need to money for their own reasons and Royal needs the control …. It leads to some entertaining fighting and compromises between them 🤣 i do like the redemption/forgiveness arc in this as well, at both a personal and wider level 😄 a really good standalone here!!
Bluntly, I didn’t like any of them, except for Avery, and only some of the time. Was particularly put off by the endless, rambling monologues the FMC constantly engaged in.
The story also had awkward, ugly aspects, that didn’t fit the genre. Hard to explain without going into too much detail. But essentially behaviour or attitudes that crossed the line from dark, to straight up ugly; or morally questionable, to unarguably bad guys.
Lastly, one of my least fav tropes, Alpha-asshole, and weak, hormone, controlled female. Though the former was strongest, with the later not always present. Hence my ability to skim through until the end. But I confess, I truly did have to skim over large plots of drivel, and justification for really bad choices. I swear the FMC had to be bi-polar..
I’d be willing to check out another by this author, simply as I’ve not often loved all an authors books. There was just enough good here to make me want to see if I can find something more to my tastes, in other stories from them. The writing was quality, regardless of my personal preferences regarding story matter, and personalities.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "ROYAL" (DRESSED TO KILL) series the author never disappoints this is a keeper one of the best reads you can't put down your hooked to the end. Royal is one of the Belladonnas hired assassins their Boss Man gives them their missons get target is a Ruthless Mafia Boss involved in human trafficking, she works alone until something interrupts her kill. Triple X is another group of assassins Tyler, Colt & Avery are after same Mafia Boss there interaction with Royal when they find out she's after target is quite interesting. Royal's in France where the Mafia Boss is again she's one again against three Tyler, Colt & Avery are in her way so she kidnapps one of them she trained to be seductive, things rather steamy, she looking for more each guy brings something special to her. I definitely recommend to this amazing well written story with laugh out moments, the characters are so well developed & pull you right into the intense drama, I loved it didn't want it to end its a must read for sure. AWESOME MUST HAVE ENEMIES TO LOVERS ROMANCE 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤
So, I am not overly familiar with Miss Dentons work. What I have read I love. My favorite thing about her style of writing is the attention to detail! Details make a book. It gives it meat, and shapes everything. At least to me it does. But for me, I felt there was too much detail. Too much inner monologue as well, which was where most of the detail was. Usually during the characters’ time waiting for something to happen. Almost as if it was used to basically fill a space. That’s just how I saw it. It didn’t make it a bad book; it just didn’t work for me. But those details were also important to the story, so they did serve a purpose too. Aside from the detail thing, which is more a Me problem. This book was amazing. I also love the men she picked for this story. One brother was experienced in their line of work, older, wiser, and the others were basically new and impulsive. It was different and brought a change to the story. Royal is the kind of female some of us want to be. Doesn’t care. Makes no excuses. Doesn’t do I’m sorry and just goes with it.
