The Erotica Project was started when the authors realized that there is very little heterosexual erotica written by women. They began composing erotic vignettes that embraced male-female sex while turning traditional male erotic literature on its head. The Erotica Project features hot, literate, and emotionally charged stories that redefine sexual relations and broaden parameters of acceptable behavior. The authors combine sensual short stories in the tradition of Best Lesbian Erotica with intimate, personal commentary between women in the tradition of Girlfriends . The result is a portrait of women not as victims, but as sharing power - and pleasure - equally with men.
As erotica, this beautiful book may disappoint those interested in obvious pleasure. However viewed as prose-poetry, there's a sutble and occasionally exquisite eroticism that ripples and burbles underneath the words. Some passages are richly sensual, capturing the all-encompassing sensuality of a kiss or the giddy aftermath of an erotic act; others rub at the raw wound of marital infidelity a little too brutally. Perhaps the latter isn't such a bad thing given the tendency of much erotica to cast painful situations (particularly power relations) purely in terms of pleasure (pleasure for whom?).
However I'm not sure that the material (some of which was originally written for radio broadcast) has translated well as an ebook. Despite its personal tone the voice feels slightly old-fashioned, which perhaps suits the purpose of broadcast better than the intimacy of e-reading. The loose, non-narrative feel (prose pieces that dip in and out of erotic moments rather than following a single train) might suit a paper book rather than an electronic one (where one can't so easily flip to the middle, the last, a third).
Still, it's a charming and original work of great sensuality and beauty, and well deserves to be on any erotica reader's shelf.
Two thin white women write mildly titillating erotica about the disappointing men they're fucking and the women they wished they'd fucked at Smith. I'm too queer for this.
Normally, I like short stories. These, however, were a bit too short for me. Don't get me wrong, there's still alot of good writing in here, but I usually like more than a page to my stories.
