Meet Mr. Pants! It’s the last day of summer, which means the last chance for fun, and he really, really wants to play laser tag. But his sisters have other ideas—the Fairy Princess Dream Factory? Gah! Good thing Mr. Pants knows how to get what he wants—and have a blast doing it.
Scott McCormick is the author of more Scott McCormick bios than any other Scott McCormick who ever Scott McCormicked. Look it up if you don’t believe me. He also writes the Mr. Pants graphic novels and the hilarious Audible Originals The Dragon Squisher, Spies! Sneak, Snoops, and Saboteurs Who Shaped the World, Mutually Assured Detention, and the number-one bestseller Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World. But who are we kidding? The real money is in writing bios. You take that advice to the bank. Tell ‘em Scott McCormick sent you. And if they ask you which Scott McCormick, you tell ‘em the Scott-McCormick-bio-writing Scott McCormick of the North Carolina Scott McCormicks. They’ll know who you mean.
Hurray for Mr. Pants. He is an ornery kitty, but he has a good heart. Love his friend Boxy, invented from an Amazon box, his rainbow unicorn backpack and the way he transforms the Fairy Princess Dream Factory Party. Fun read!
What does the last day of summer look like? For Mr. Pants, the last day of summer means laser-tag, but he hasn't cleaned his room, his sister is going to the Fairy Princess Dream Factory, and his mom needs to take them shopping for school.
This is a cute story that kids will relate to. Feeling like your siblings get to do what they want, but you never do. Wanting to play with your sister's new toy. And wondering why Fairy Princess dolls don't have anything to defend themselves with. And rushing to make sure they have time for laser-tag - will it be as much fun as Mr. Pants thinks?
Bright, colorful illustrations make this a fun book for kids.
A funny and hilarious book of 3 cats, Mr Pants the orange boy cat, Grommy the white girl cat, and Foot Foot the grey girl cat. Can't wait to get the 2nd book!
This had me laughing aloud the entire way through. Mr. Pants is ornery, contrary, picks on his siblings, and pouts when things don't go his way, but he's not malicious and often brings others around to his zany antics.
This book is a longer primary graphic novel. It has different chapters that divide the story into sections, so the reader has an easy place to stop. The story and panels are easy to follow, as are the text bubbles. Text bubbles are limited to a sentence or two for easy reading. The panels are in color and are not overly busy. Students will be hooked quickly because Mr. Pants is quite a character, and is quite fun in how he behaves with his mom and siblings, Foot Foot and Grommy. They will relate because many of them will see their own family in this book.
I would use this in a book talk because it is such a funny book that students can relate to. I would also use this for a book bundle. It would fit with kids who have cats, or love them or for a student who has younger siblings. Maybe even just that fun loving kid on the go who has a ornery side. I enjoyed this because as a parent and teacher, we see what happens in this book everyday! It is relatable to many people.
Even though this is a primary book, the text may be a little advanced. Some of the author's meaning may go over young students head. All in all, it is a very humorous look at Mr. Pants and his family antics.
This is a delightful book about a young cat who learns that promises and hard work are meaningless and that meeting a basic expectation is an outdated notion. Join Mr. Pants as he models that manipulation I’d loved ones to gain selfish desires is fun, and that rewards, rather than negative consequences come from harmful behavior. Read this book with your child to help them understand that the wants and needs of others are mere inconveniences and that their own entitlement is at the core of a fulfilling life. This book will teach your kids, as it says on the back of the book, to “get what [they] want—-and have a blast doing it.”
This is just plain adorable. First, I was really happy that the book is one continuous story as it looked at first glance like a set of episodes but no. This is a Mum who has three children, they are all cats, 2 girls and a boy, our hero, Mr. Pants. It's the last day of summer vacation and the girls want to go to a "Build-a-Princess" activity store, Mum needs to take them shopping to get her older two back to school stuff; but, Mr Pants wants to play laser tag, and they'll only go if they have time after the other stuff. What I really liked about this is the characters behaviour isn't typical and you don't know what to expect. For ex, in the Princess store, Mr. Pants asks why there are no weapons or armour for the dolls because even if they are beautiful they have to protect themselves. Then he has the whole store full of girls making ninja and warrior princesses by refashioning the supplies they are given, but at the end, Mr. Pants changes his mind and just makes a pretty princess because he found a purple veil that matched her dress perfectly. LOL. A funny event happens in each chapter as Mr Pants tries to hurry them along and his sisters cause him trouble. I also love the art; it is based on simple shapes and will have readers who are budding artists drawing the characters quite successfully.
Despite the fact Kirkus loathed this, I found it very funny. Yes the family is weird- a human mom, three cat kids with odd names: Mr Pants, Foot Foot and Grommy. However the zany sibling rivalry, bickering and playful antics have a ring of truth to them. I particularly liked the episode set at the Fairy Princess Dream Factory where Pants is underwhelmed by the princess accessories on offer-there are no princess bazookas or nunchucks. "Why can't she be beautiful and deadly' he wonders and so unleashes the creativity of the other princess makers, all the while crafting his own beautiful princess- 'I found this purple veil that matched this dress and the whole outfit kind of came together.'
This book is awesome, and since it's a graphic novel, it's a quick read. My daughter loved it, and so did I. It's easy enough for 2nd graders to understand and laugh at.
I checked this book out from the library for S thinking it was something that might interest him because of his current interest in graphic novels. It didn't appeal to him, though, so he passed it off to L instead, but then it sat unread in her book bin until the night before it had to be returned to the library. We finally all sat down and read it together at bedtime and it was mildly enjoyable but I have so many questions. 1) The protagonist is a cat inexplicably named Mr. Pants and his sisters are named Foot Foot and Grommy. Why? Why are those their names? I was thinking perhaps we missed an earlier book in the series that explains the names but no, apparently this is the first book in the series. 2) Why is the mom to these cats a human? 3) Why are the cats basically just people in cat bodies? They go back-to-school shopping, play laser tag, etc. I think some of the humor went over the kids' heads, and we all agreed that although the family looks like ours (a big brother and two sisters) Mr. Pants is way more annoying than S. ever is. Both kids seemed to like this okay, but probably not enough to pursue the rest of the series.
"It's Go Time!", written by Scott McCormick and illustrated by R. H. Lazzell, is an engaging book following a few cats and their mother. The various chapters follow the cats going on adventures, such as shopping, playing laser tag, and getting ready for bed. There is humor found throughout the book, especially for the elementary audience. The illustrations are well-suited for the intended tone. Illustrations are off-balance, almost looking as if a child drew them. The illustrations capture a wide range of emotions, overexaggerating them at points, which works well for this graphic novel. I enjoyed this book, especially because it is relatable to anyone with siblings. Whether an older, younger, or middle child, many kids will be able to relate to at least one character in this book. I enjoyed this graphic novel, and because of its style of humor and messages, I would recommend it for the Fourth or Fifth Grade.
This children's intermediate reader book was hilarious! It follows the every day adventures of Mom's kitty children, Mr Pants, Foot Foot and Grommy. My favorite story line was Mr. Pants grudgingly attending Grommy's party at the Fairy Princess Dream Factory and asking if they have princess bazookas and nunchucks so she can defend herself against monsters and villains. His sisters end up making a Viking princess with a battle-ax and a ninja warrior princess with throwing stars, nunchucks, a sword and a bazooka. Mr. Pants makes a princess too but she is "just a beautiful princess." "But how is she gonna defend herself against bad guys?" asks Grommy. SPOILER ALERT--Mr. Pants whispers "She knows kung fu."
Mr. Pants is an impatient cat who just wants to have fun while needling his twin sister Foot Foot. He's a typical 2nd grader - sweet one moment, selfish the next (I assume he's a 2nd grader - he feels like a 2nd grader). A perfect perfect graphic novel for younger readers in grades 1/2 and even in 3. Give to fans of Babymouse and Squish. Stupid, funny, and sweet. Gonna put it on my first order for next year (spent all my $$ for the year).
Meet Mr. Pants the cat, who really wants to play some laser tag before the end of summer. But his sisters Grommy and Foot Foot want to go to the Fairy Princess Dream Factory, and their Mom wants to take them school shopping. Kids will be laughing as Mr. Pants is dragged along to make princesses and shopping and finally gets to laser tag. This is just the beginning of Mr. Pants adventures and will have kids anticipating what antics he will get into next.
A 5th grader at my school told me I should get this series for our school library collection. Let's just say that I can absolutely see why this particular kid likes this particular series...
We know that graphic novels are not my jam, but I think kids might enjoy it (which is why it's getting a 2-star rating instead of a 1)--however, I might want to purchase just the first one (possibly two) before I'm willing to commit more of my (limited) funds towards it...
These are silly and fun - I read a whole bunch of them. My favorite chapter was in book 2, called the Honestly Bomb. My mom used to say that when she was exasperated with us so Mr. Pants, Foot Foot and Grommy's game trying to get Mom to say it was fab for me. Easy one to pitch to fans of goofy graphic novels.
It's the last day of summer and Mr. Pants needs to shape up and help out if he wants to get to play laser tag. Super funny and cute - important messages for working together and respecting mom's authority. I loved the Fairy Princess Dream Factory and how all the kids decided to turn their pretty princesses I to warriors with nunchucks and Viking swords.
This one is weird but very funny! You just have to roll with the fact that these cats are essentially kids with a human mom. Recommended for people who like the Gumball graphic novels/Nickelodeon show.
Mr. Pants is a laser tag loving kitty with two sisters, Grommy and Foot Foot. Mr. Pants come up with mischievous plans to get his way, but somehow it ends up working out for everyone. This book is a little ridiculous, but in a great way.
I really liked this book because it was very funny. Also, because the drawings were very cute. I would recommend this book to others. I read this book a lot of times already, but it's still very interesting to read.
