Story is told tongue in cheek that will have you laughing out loud as you read. A graphic novel of Johnny a lamb left by the stork raised as a human child. Funny and easy text and fun read.
My rating of "The Complete Adventures of Johnny Mutton" is 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Three previously published Johnny Mutton books are compiled here to entertain and entice young readers. Johnny, his Momma, BFF Gloria Crust and nemesis Mandy Dinkus are all included in these zany and heartening adventures. From his adoption by Momma, to contests with Mandy and fun with Gloria, Johnny continues to amuse and show readers that it’s okay to be different. Johnny is well-known in his community, but often for the wrong reasons: dressing as a runny nose on Halloween, being an inept bagger at the grocery store, etc. But his antics are humorous, not mean-spirited, and his determination can serve as a lesson for all. The tagline, “He’s so him,” reminds youngsters to be respectful of others. Sight gags, potty humor, snappy dialogue and juvenile illustrations are sure draws for the intended audience of readers. In addition to the three reprints, there is a new comic titled “I believe” that expounds on Johnny’s many philosophies and a puerile interview with Proimos. This graphic is sure to be popular with Johnny fans and those unfamiliar with this high-spirited sheep. Order if needed.
Johnny is a sheep who is left on the doorstep of Mrs. Mutton. She takes him in and raises him like any child. He goes to school and even though he is different he is basically treated like a weird child. This is a collection of three adventures, but really includes several short chapters that can all be read on their own. Graphic novels are extremely popular in the library and I am sure this one is going to find its fans. It is more geared towards beginning chapter book readers than some of the other graphic books I have read. Johnny is in kindergarten and dealing with first year of school type issues: friends, bullies, teachers, parents, etc. It was a light, entertaining read.
3 1/2 stars. When Momma Mutton finds a baby on her doorstep one day, it doesn't matter to her that he's a sheep. She takes him in and raises him as a human-and we get Johnny Mutton (he's so him!) This graphic compilation is silly and funny and sweet. Johnny, for all his wacky antics, is a bit of a role model-delivering his subtle messages with no preaching whatsoever. All the better to hear you, my dear.
I'm not really a fan of Johnny Mutton -- the humor isn't really to my taste -- but I can understand why kids would enjoy it: bright colors, simple plots and jokes, and just a bit weird.
Note: I received a digital galley through NetGalley.
Collection of short, silly stories about a sheep adopted by a human mom. Babymouse & her fans will enjoy the cupcakes, boys will enjoy Mama Mutton's technique to win the staring contest!
