Santa Got Stuck in the Chimney is a book of poetry that is intended for primary readers. This book is composed of twenty different poems that all deal with different events around Christmas time. For instance there is a poem about shopping at the mall as well as a poem for a snow day.
I rated this book three stars because I am not a big fan of poetry. I enjoy books that tell a story, and although some poetry can tell a story, this book in particular did not. The poems were well written and were funny, which is why I think children would enjoy this book. Also children would find this book appealing because many children enjoy Christmas themed books. This would be a good book to read to children when they are learning about poetry in school. The illustrations in this book are colorful and very cartoon like. The poems in this book also have rhymes in them, which is also another reason I think children would enjoy this book. Children enjoy reading books when they can predict what rhyming word might come next.

This picture book is a collection of poems written by Nesbitt and Knaus over the course of a few years. All the silly poems are on the topic of the holiday season, ranging from shopping on black Friday to making New Year’s resolutions.
The colorful cartoonish illustrations in the book accentuate the silly writing perfectly. The poems are written in rhyme and vary in length from 2 stanzas to 2 pages.
This book is recommended for children in elementary school. One note of caution is that one of the poems questions whether Santa is real or not, so that particular poem may not be a good choice for younger children.

Okay...there ought to be a spoiler-warning in this book as it has poems about whether Santa is real or not. Several of the poems in this were not true rhymes and did not roll on your tongue. I felt a lot of it was designed more as off-color kids humor than anything. I was not happy with this book.

As I scanned through these poems, I found that some of them were funny. However, a lot of the rhymes seemed forced - lacking the musical flow of poetry. My kids would have liked it anyway, but I ultimately discarded this one because there was a poem about not believing in Santa. I want to keep the magic as long as possible!
