During the time the author was doing their work helping service members recover from horrific injuries, I was in the other side trying to keep them alive long enough to get there. It was cathartic in a way to read this book.and insightful to see the other side of the evac.
I inhaled this book in two days' time. Amid the blasted apart bodies, sweat, and long, long hours, Levine finds humor and humanity--enough, I think, to go on.
