During the time the author was doing their work helping service members recover from horrific injuries, I was in the other side trying to keep them alive long enough to get there. It was cathartic in a way to read this book.and insightful to see the other side of the evac.
I inhaled this book in two days' time. Amid the blasted apart bodies, sweat, and long, long hours, Levine finds humor and humanity--enough, I think, to go on.
I will say I started this book last year and just finished it this week. It was hard for me to get into and stay in. It picked up toward the end, although I feel like the plot was all over the place - no real structure. On second thought, it was sort of nonfiction so maybe there’s that. Definitely informative in regard to PT and veteran amputee rehabilitation.
