Let me preface this review by saying I have seen some absolutely disgraceful translations from the publisher, Drama Queen. This book is not one of those, so rest easy!

To me the plot of this military sci-fi was a tiny bit convoluted because I had either never heard of the focal organizations (TIA, WBI) or they are the author's fabrications, and thus their purpose eluded me. Anyway, the gist is this:

The main character, Junk, is a special forces operative who is so skilled he is basically above martial law. He does what he wants, mouths off to his superiors, and has a team of his own that is so loyal to him they will disobey orders to protect him.

Junk has been receiving mysterious communications from "X," whose name is later revealed to be pronounced as "Cross." Cross is a supposed terrorist out to murder a prominent religious figure, and the military is tasked with his arrest. Naturally, Junk wants to do things his own way, and tries to meet up with Cross in private so he can be the one to bring him into custody. But when he arrives at the predetermined meeting place, he's surprised that Cross is actually asking him for help.

The military shows up to capture Cross, even though Junk demanded they stay away and leave the job to him. He was immediately captivated by Cross's beauty, and since he's upset his superiors didn't let him handle the situation, instead of arresting Cross he helps him escape and then the two of them become wanted men and have to go into hiding.

The rest of the story is about Cross revealing his past and his current mission to Junk. Apparently the religious leader he wants to assassinate is the leader of a sex abuse cult, and he himself was one of its slaves. He wants to end it, and Junk decides to help him.

I found that this book had a really unique plot for a yaoi manga (and so do the author's other works, so if you enjoy this one, do check her other books out). Everything ties up pretty neatly in the end and the story ends happily. The art is also some of the most beautiful I've seen in manga. And while the main characters do fall in love very quickly, it makes sense because they're in the middle of a crisis and relying on one another for survival, and neither thinks they will live beyond completion of their mission.

Side note: I was also excited to see a trans character in this book! The mention that Jessica used to be "Gonzalez" is brief, but the creator clarifies in the author's notes section at the end of the manga so there's no doubt.
