This beautiful two-volume catalog--which presents more than 2000 works by O'Keeffe in a variety of media--displays her innovative use of color and form and in the process sheds light on her distinctive contribution to American modernism. 2,150 illustrations.
This is the first volume of a catalog of Georgia O'Keeffe's art, with photos of 959 pieces, starting with a few of her childhood drawings and water colors and going through works from 1938. It was very interesting to me to see the progression of O'Keeffe's work, which included many pictures I'd never seen before. Barbara Buhler Lynes has painstakingly detailed everything from the type of paper used (for paper works) and the inscriptions on the stretcher or back side (where accessible) to the source of the title and the provenance (who owned it when.) Identifying works was definitely made more challenging by the fact that O'Keeffe often painted the same subject matter multiple times and some had the same or very similar titles.
