The K’Rang Empire has once again encroached into Galactic Republic space, holding four Human worlds hostage to their imperial ambition. Be a witness to the epic confrontation as Humanity fights a bitter struggle for survival against the K’Rang Empire. Kelly Blake takes command of the Orion, a new super scout, the fastest ship ever built, in a race to enlist the aid and cooperation of another species suffering from K’Rang aggression.
Now in command of Orion, a super scout ship and the fastest in the fleet, Kelly Blake and a Galactic Republic ambassador race to find allies after the K'Rang launch a massive invasion. Written from the viewpoints of human, K'Rang, and Angaeri, one sees all sides of this conflict. Once again, the characters drive the story, not technology, although the technology is interesting and not at all overly detailed. There's even a love story, sweet but not gooey or raunchy. The epic battles are intense and moving -- a romping good story.
I have been looking forward to this book since I read the first two in the Kelly Blake series. Unfortunately I finished it in a little more than a day. Now this was not the books fault but I managed to get a cold so that I had little other things to do but read.
The book is really good. It’s one of the few books that I’ve read lately that really focuses on space battles as in throwing armadas of spaceships against each other. It’s a shame that so few other authors seem to care about this. Mostly it’s too much politics or marine grunt stories neither of which is my favorites.
Anyway, this one is just what I like. Almost no politics, the majority of the story is about the Galactic Republic defending themselves against the latest incursion from the K’Rang Empire. A first contact situation leading to a few nice surprises for the K’Rang’s is thrown in for good measure.
I hope the author continues the series although he would have to build a new story arc since the current one pretty much came to a conclusion in this book.
This is my third book in the Kelly Blake Series and I think my best one yet. Once again the K'Rang are on the prowl and it is a desperate race against tine and space as three huge fleets meet and decide the fate of three civilizations.
Really good space opera. Much ship and grand fleet battle scenes. Not much character development but lots of action. Though the third book of a series, knowledge of the first two may be helpful but is not necessary. Fun book.
