The fourth man to walk on the Moon, Alan Bean was an American naval officer and naval aviator, aeronautical engineer, test pilot, an artist. After serving as Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 12, he served as commander of the 1973 Skylab 3 mission. He retired from NASA in 1981 to pursue a career as a full-time artist and public speaker. The last surviving member of the Apollo 12 crew, he passed away in 2018 at the age of 86.
