Huey P. Long: Talker and Doer

Rate this book
Long rebuilt the Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, paved roads, and built bridges. He established a statewide charity hospital system to provide the poor population with free medical care and provided free textbooks to schoolchildren. Then, gun shots echoed through the capitol building. Carl Weiss, a local dentist, assassinated Huey P. Long, Louisianais most outspoken politician. Huey P. Long: Talker and Doer is a simple way for children to learn about the man who changed Louisiana for the better. His life is also a lesson in the value of helping others.

A good book to start talking with kids about a historic Louisiana figure, Huey Long. The book talks about many of the things he stood for, and some of the things he accomplished in his life. Great for a short read, and to begin talking more with kids about his life, and the ways he impacted Louisiana today, and a good way of beginning a discussion about today's government.

An excellent biography of Huey Long for children. It tells all about him from a boy until he died. He accomplished many things for the state of Louisiana.
