She hates me. But no other wolf will protect her like I can…
I swear this is the last time I come to Kira’s rescue. Not that she’s ever realized it, because my best friend’s little sister is too busy hating me to notice.
And while she may be infuriating, temperamental, and unpredictable, my wolf felt her pain when her mate rejected her publicly.
Now she’s determined to claw back her reputation by taking part in The Reject Project, an infamously dangerous TV show featuring irresistible bachelors and rejected mates.
I’m not about to stand by and watch her being thrown to the wolves, and I’ve got to admit, the look on her face when she saw I was among the eligible bachelors was priceless. So is watching her pretend to be in love with me.
Except when the competition turns nasty, my fierce protector wolf isn’t playing games anymore. This time, he intends to play for keeps…
This story requires too much suspension of belief to be believable. The premise of the story misses the mark. The whole premise of the storyline was way too Hunger Games and it didn’t make sense, nor was written well. The whole deadly island was team too much. There was too much going on. Many are expected to not survive, to die, but those who do end up surviving to the end, and not the one chosen as a mate, supposedly are left behind on the island, rather than returned? What kind of ridiculous foolishness is that?
Kira took a sip of wine, not a gulp, or half the glass, yet, she was so greatly affected by the small sip she took? It was too over-the-top, and made no sense
The males are there to fight to have the female, so why is the female put in danger? And extra danger at that? She had to do a challenge the day they got to the island, so why is the next day she participating in the challenge where it’s about the males making it back to the mansion, the first to do so get the first date? Why is she participating? In EVERY challenge, the very first challenge was only her, but the guys didn’t have only them challenges? It made no sense. And if it is supposed to be so rare that mates reject their mate, why are there so many rejected mates? The wording needs to change to It’s not all that usual, but it happens plenty.
Kira is an immature brat with her continued makes zero sense grudge she has against Wyatt. She’s not likable. The more went on, the stupider it got. It was very offputting. It was a bunch of foolishness in the continued way of having her act. 23 chapters in and still with her ridiculousness. And then it CONTINUES! 44 chapters in, they have sex for the fourth time and she’s still saying this was a mistake afterwards! When she’s the one who initiates it! Still spewing nonsense. Brings the story down more, now I’m skimming just to get through the book and seriously considering just saying forget it , I’m out! I seriously dislike not finishing a book. Why is the female lead written like this? It’s idiotic at this point..
There was supposed to be another contestant, who was supposed to meet the group on the island after the intro show, yet three days go by and nothing? How does that one get to then come and compete when already missed two challenges? At this point, there should’ve been an announcement that the contestant was no longer joining them for not being there when should have been. Him still getting to come was eye rolling. Where was his extra two challenges? Didn’t even make sense for who did come to have been him. Doesn’t mesh with the male contestants having already been selected way before Kira got in. She was a last minute replacement. Wyatt took place of another. The others were already set! So how is it this person was able to make his way on? Plot hole!
Kira put her dress and thong back on after a sexual encounter, then a few paragraphs later she forgot she stuffed her thong in her shoe? No, the author forgot her formerly written detail. Again.
Wyatt’s whining over Kira and Leif was overdone, became real tired. Wyatt’s an operative, I don’t care that he has jealousy where it comes to her, he had to be able to read things better than that, Kira even gave him hints as in DIRECTLY telling him Leif only a friend, he’s not even there competing for her, AND she trying to keep a target off Wyatt’s back relating to why she chose how she did. And his switch flip WAY OVERDONE.
Bringing others into the game who did not sign consent for such, what is that? Too far a deviation is what it is. And why is it only the two females having to have an extra task, when the premise of the book is for the males to fight for being picked as the mate at the end? Again, too much going on, you can’t write well when you got too much going on, and shows in this book.
Book ends on a cliffhanger. Not really interested in reading the next book.
I’m a sucker for a romance game show so throw in paranormal characters and I’m SOLD. It was so good! Enemies to lovers, rejected mates, and The Bachelorette vibes. It does end on sort of a cliffhanger… and books 3 and 4 aren’t out yet. But I’m about to read book 2 because I can’t wait to see what happens next!
‘Twas ok but I am not invested enough to read the next 2 books even though this ended on a cliffhanger. Was basically the bachelor but for werewolves with a twist that they have to fight crazy demented creatures to survive
Maybe 2 stars, and I won't be continuing. I was shocked to find out she was 23. To be a trained operative at 23 and still so immature? They both are significantly immature for such heavy jobs.
Progress update at 40%? "This denial is sooo tedious and the snippy dialogue is immature frankly But of course I want to see how the premise unfolds"
Highlights & Spoilers- if you care-
Straight from the authors pen: The Reject Project is about death and crying and trying to look handsome and sexy while you feel like shit inside.”
Zoe gets it (about Wyatt): "Some of these guys are so hell-bent on winning and beating the others, they’ll forget to protect you. Wyatt won’t have that problem. He’d throw himself into a pit of ferals and vampires before he let you get hurt again.”
But Kira does not get it and sadly, neither does Wyatt until 80%- the denial for the both is so frustrating- definitely a high angst book. Lots of repetition for them both, to remember the ruse about why they do what they do.
The only redeeming thing (I feel) is the creativity of the monsters on the Island. That's it. Everything else if drama and ridiculousness. And maybe the cover- that's pretty hot.
I can't believe this book is only 300 ish pages. It felt so fucking long.
It started out pretty good. Main girl is willing to sacrifice everything for her pack and family. Even if that means marrying a total dick., who is suppose to be her one true mate. There are so many issues here. Like the mate is selected via blood draw? It kinda ruined the whole fated mates thing in my opinion. Especially since home girl doesn't seem to have any attraction or connection to this guy. If these matches are done by the goddess where is all the divine in this situation?
Anyways, dickwad ends up rejecting her in front of everyone because he's a huge dickwad. Girl is sad for about 5 seconds and then is ready to figure out what to do next. She passively thinks about how her pack is going to kick her out. Like it wouldn't be a big deal. I don't know but to me that seems like a huge deal but again, she doesn't spend a ton of time worrying about it.
Enter brothers BFF. He's hot and grumpy and she hates him. Yadda yadda yadda, yawn.
I usually eat this stuff up. But their chemistry just wasn't there, what so ever.
Girlfriend (Who's name I've all ready forgotten 1 hour after reading this book) enters herself into the casting of a reality tv show. But on this tv show there is a chance you could die. At the beginning of the book it seems like that chance isn't super high, but by the middle of the book you realize almost everyone on this show dies.
All these mens are vying to be her new mate. Because the goddess is willing to bless them if they make it to the end of this show. Which tells me this goddess is a huge jerk. Because huh? And they never really clarify what it truly means to be rejected. Like can she find a new mate? Or can you only get a new mate by this show and having the goddess bless you. Like, clearly you can be attracted to people who aren't your mate. And have sex with them. And love them. But like because your rejected you can't have a mate now.... Again it wasn't every explained.
There's a bunch of random tasks the contestants have to compete in. I literally didn't care if any of them died. Including our main girl. No one had much of a personality outside main girl/boy. The other boys kind of just blended into the background. Oh home skillet's BFF is also there. She serves no real purpose to the story beyond giving someone for Main Girl to vent to/talk to. She also tries to point out girlfriend is totally in love with brother's BFF but of course she's in denial.
In the end Girl shifts (Which she doesn't do for some reason not explained in this book. I guess the next book would probably explain) to save lover boy. Oh also the mate who rejected hers little brother shows up at the very end. I have no idea why.
This book just didn't hold my interest. Everything wasn't really fleshed out and the premise seemed completely unbelievable. I'm guessing the blood tests for fated mates have been rigged because how is there so many mate rejections??? I just don't know if I'm curious enough to try and make it through another book just to find that out.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I intended to sleep tonight. But I've downloaded book two because I need this to continue.
After being rejected by her mate, Kira enters a deadly shifter version of the Bachelor (if the Bachelor was part Hunger Games) to earn honor for her pack. Her brother's best friend, her coworker and the man she loves to hate, Wyatt, enters as a contestant to keep her safe. Their chemistry is impossible to deny, but will they make it through the Games alive?
The world on the island and challenges were great- I almost wish they were ore elaborate because what was there was so cool. The ghosts, ferals and danger from other contestants was tantalizing.
I loved the chemistry between Kira and Wyatt! The steam was there and smutty paranormal romance fans will not be disappointed.
Starting Book 2 after posting this. I'll be finishing it ASAP.
First, I just have to admit, I love werewolf shifter stories and I went into listening to this with a certain expectation. I am happy that it was a great story. I was very engaged and found myself finishing the book in a day and a half. I loved the plot, it was a spin on the TV show the Bachelorette meets survivor but with a werewolf twist. I loved it! I loved the connection with Kira and Wyatt. The book is full of action and be warned it ends with an unexpected twist and a steep cliffhanger!!
This paranormal romance is a thrilling, action, adventure-filled story that mixes The Bachelor and Survivor. I can't get enough of this story.
Kira is a badass heroine who has been dealt a horrible fated mate rejection and makes decisions that put her life at risk. She is a latent shifter with quite a story to tell. Wyatt is a lone Wolf who is totally Apha; he is protective, possessive, and in love with his best friend's sister. Through a twist of fate, they both end up on the death-defying BloodStone Island and the Reality TV show. Nothing like life and death situations to ignite the simmering slow-burn romance. The paranormal and action-adventure in this book are exceptional. I have truly enjoyed every moment of this story. This book is the first in a series.
Kira is an operative on a sting to take down a shifter who isn't on the right side of the old-fashioned shifter laws. The story starts out action-packed as Kira goes from being in control to spiraling quickly.
Wyatt has a history with Kira; tidbits are hinted at, but I admire his protective instincts and mindset. More will be revealed as both of these characters are deep and intriguing.
This story is definitely more Fantasy/TV reality than I expected, but the plot line is interesting enough. The story has intrigue and mystery, including this Survivor meets The Bachelor on a remote island twist. I love the incorporations of best friend's sister, the rejected mate trope, and, of course, all the things on the Island that make noise at night and can kill these paranormal wolf shifters. The fierce competition and the characters have a lot of heart, making this one hell of a read.
Action-packed and death-defying as they each compete for their own reasons. Kira is a badass heroine in this story. I love every minute of the paranormal abnormalities on this hellish Island. Death, steamy scenes, and the never-ending surprises await her as she decides to save herself and Wyatt. Her feelings are starting to show, but I still need to figure out this ending. This book is superb, so good my notes are sparse as I couldn't pull my nose out of the book.
Omg as if things couldn't be worse, that plot twist at the end might make the next book extremely exciting or too much drama. Either way, I cannot wait to read it.
It had an interesting premise and Zoe and Leif are good support characters!! I love them! Kira and Wyatt are compelling MCs and I can’t wait to find out more about their pasts. The version I read had some continuity issues…. But otherwise really good!
It was a good premise, and I would have finished it, but Wyatt always complaining that she got herself.in trouble was just too annoying.
She is an operative, doing her job and he gives her ZERO credit... just annoying. That was really about all I didn't like. It just got to the point where his attitude would put her in fanger.
2.5 ⭐️ rounded up. At first Wyatt was pissing me off, then halfway through Kira was pissing me off, then around 85% the both were pissing me off. The authors are trying to cram a lot into this story and unfortunately none of it is working for me which is sad because I like the premise of it all.
Sadly, DNFing. I took a break due to the ridiculousness of the game this whole thing is centered around and now I just can't get back into the story. Had a lot of potential, but I just don't see it getting better.
I really like game shows. I love survivor, the bachelor(ette), big brother, the challenge, etc. I was REALLY hoping to love this book. It fell flat. The book ended on a cliffhanger and I won’t be picking up the next book.
It would have been better with a different FMC. This one is awful.
Sorry, but I now have zero fucks to give authors that CANNOT write a decent, strong FMC that isn't just a rude bitch. That is my pet peeve right now. It's too bad really, because the storyline is pretty good, and world building is interesting. And if I read one more scene where the FMC (don't care how well trained she is) tells the MMC that "I can take care of myself" when it has been demonstrably proven that they can't, I'm going to eat my own head.
It's a Bachelorette meets Hunger Games TV show for rejected mates. The female lead for the show (our Kira) and one rejected male from each of the 12 packs vie for her "love." Of course producers advertise it as entertainment. Right. When the only people that come out alive are the Lead female and the guy she picks as her mate. I mean, their "games" are pretty brutal and none of the producers, show runners or the host bat an eye when a contestant dies. It's all about ratings and what makes for "good TV."
Our FMC, Kira, was rejected by her mate in a very public, humiliating way. Her family (except her awesome brother) and her pack pretty much turn against her. So she signs up for the show to try and get back some self-respect for her as well as her pack.
One of the things I did enjoy (which is what really saved this review from being a 2 star) was learning about the rejection stories of the other contestants. Some are heartbreaking too. And the thing they all have in common is that none of them really want to be there. They were all somewhat forced by either their family or their alpha/pack. This part of character building was very well done. Because for some of the characters, I could really feel their emotional pain and anguish. That's saying a lot considering the story is only told from Kira and Wyatt's (our MMC) POV.
Having done all that bitching about the FMC, I am going to venture in to the 2nd book to see if things get any better with her. Although the plot is getting very interesting. It's just that Kira is sooooo unlikeable, a good story may not be enough to save this series for me. We shall see. Would I recommend this book? If you don't have a problem with bitchy FMCs, I think you'll like it. As I mentioned earlier, the storyline is very intriguing. If you're like me, and you cannot stand females that mistake rudeness for being strong, you'll have the same issues I do. So reader beware.
A female shifter, Kira, makes a split-second decision to join a reality tv show in order to save her pack after she is rejected by her egotistical fated mate. Upon arriving to Bloodstone Island, where the show takes place, she is faced with many challenges: including possible death, alphas desperate to win her attention, and her brother’s overprotective best friend, Wyatt. I have never been one to watch reality tv shows.. but if they made this book into reality, I would be on the edge of my seat!! This book was such a page-turner that when I got to the last page, I had to keep checking that it was, in fact, the last page. Filled with action and drama, you really start to become invested in the characters. I loved the dual POV between Wyatt and Kira, which gives us insight on both sides of the coin - being the object of everyone’s desires and being the competition. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was very well written and had the perfect spice-to-plot ratio with a little enemies-to-lovers sprinkled in. I cannot believe the book ends on such a big cliffhanger and I will be anxiously awaiting the next “episode”! If you are a fan of The Bachelor or shows along those lines and love a little action, here is my not-so-subtle shove to tell you to GO READ THIS BOOK NOW!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book is interesting.... It really is a bit like hunger games mixed with wolf shifters.
It follows the story of Kira .. she's a special ops wolf shifter who doesn't shift. Her annoying colleague Wyatt is also her brother's best friend. After an op goes wrong Kira loses everything, her fated mate, her job and if they follow tradition her home due to her mate rejecting her.
All she ever wanted was to bring pride to her pack and her father. Now feeling ashamed for something outside of her control she decides her only option is to join the Rejected games, a life and death reality TV show that if she wins would mean she could get money and a link to a much stronger pack .... Or ask the goddess Heline for a favour.
This book follows the journey of Kira as she makes decisions and mistakes that may bite her. There are clearly some secrets left to be revealed which I hope come to light in the 2nd book. Wyatt is her protector even tho she doesn't want him to be, but they have to keep the friendship a secret on the island as it could put Wyatt in the path of the other alphas competing to win her.
Its definitely got my interest and I will be moving on to book two... I need some answers... And a bit more of Wyatt rivers lol
This book was a total right off from the very beginning because I absolutely hated the h (Kira) and her bff (Zoe). I only kept reading because I’ve had a case of DNF-itis lately and I needed to know that I could actually finish a book. I call this type of romance h ‘the little man’ 😂. ‘The little man’ always has something to prove, is always in a male dominated career, is always attacking everyone while trying to eschew help, is always making very testosteroneish decisions even though they don’t have any testosterone??? (or negligible amounts anyway). But this h was even worse because she was supposed to be a physically trained covert operative, yet became extremely weak around her douchebag mate, horrible parents, and her pack. She even took the blame for her own public humiliation and rejection. She’s a latent wolf, so no shifting, and a born alpha—the second born of the current alpha of her pack. But again she blames herself for her pack’s difficulties and trials. I don’t get it. How come her father isn’t to blame? He’s the f**king alpha. Or her brother who is the actual first born but just “isn’t cut out” to be an alpha??? It was all some weird plothole misogyny that will probably get resolved in future books, but I won’t be there to read them.
The second annoying literary choice, is that the h hates the H (Wyatt), but the authors never got around to telling us why. Some drama off page. Again, something for future books. So, basically he might’ve raped her, or burned down her favourite forest, or pissed in her oatmeal every morning, but she comes off as the bitch. A bitch who was begging the H to screw her 3 minutes into chapter 1 (yes, she was drugged at the time but: in vino veritas, as they say, in her haze she wanted the H not her actual fiancé). Wyatt on the other hand comes off looking like a saint. One who goes so far as to follow the h into a guaranteed death (hunger games scenario) just to keep her safe and protected. Which is when I knew this was going to be a vapid personality, dull plot, multiple-scenes-of-hate-sex-initiated-by-a-deluded-‘little man’-who-won’t-admit-she’s-in-love kinda book. There’s absolutely no romance.
The actual games that take up the bulk of this book aren’t that serious, or very good. The authors don’t seem to realize that keeping all the juicy stuff a secret, or having all the shenanigans go down off-camera doesn’t exactly make for a good reality TV. All the audience of the 'Rejected Mate Games' ever sees are weird creatures, an isolated island, magic, unmemorable douche bag competitors…
The Hunger Games meets The Bachelor but make it *werewolves.*
This was actually so bad it was entertaining.
Biggest issue was that it appeared to have had absolutely no proof-reading or editing before it got published so there are multiple... MULTIPLE spelling errors and inconsistencies. Perhaps it's the KU edition that I read that was messed up but oh my world this needed major reworking.
---PLOT---
Basically, told in dual-POV, we got this girl named Kira, who is the daughter of the alpha of the Eleventh pack. (Similar to the Hunger Games, the lower the pack number, the lower in status). And this guy named Wyatt, who is her brother's best friend and the unofficial alpha of the lone wolves pack residing in the Eleventh pack.
They both work as some Tranquility Operatives - like the FBI - and after they're seen in a somewhat compromising position, Kira's "soulmate" rejects her.
Oh and I forgot to mention Kira is shiftless by choice for a reason we're not aware of until the 80% mark. Something that is very very constantly brought up and brings a lot of disappointment to her family. After getting rejected, she auditions to be in The Rejected Mate Games where a bunch of alpha guys fight to the death in hunger games style to win a girl.
And surprise surprise, Wyatt ends up following her into the games as a contestant.
---WHERE EVERYTHING WENT WRONG---
Everything started off fine, the concept was interesting, characters were kinda cringy, but I could still imagine how great this book could go. But as soon as the games were introduced - everything got muddier.
As mentioned, the games consist of rejected alpha male wolves competing for a new mate - Kira - on a dangerous island. What I didn't understand is if she’s the prize, why is she also doing challenges that could kill her? Aren’t the guys fighting for her?
And spoiler Logic of the games makes no sense.
There are also just little things here and there like typos and inconsistencies of dates and things. i.e. - Saying it's the 31st season of the games at the beginning of the book and then the 32nd season in the second half. - Like Kira putting on her underwear after having sex and then a couple paragraphs later it magically appears in her shoe??
A Thrilling Blend of Romance and Survival Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 Heat Level: 🔥🔥
As a newcomer to the world of Lindsey Devin and Skye Wilson's novels, "The Rejected Mate Games" certainly offered a unique twist within the paranormal shifter genre. This bi paranormal shifter book delves into uncharted territory, presenting a plot that diverges from the familiar tropes.
The book plunges readers into a whirlwind of competition reminiscent of a crossover between "The Bachelor" and "The Hunger Games." The narrative is punctuated by death-defying tests that the contestants must endure, overseen by a host whose twisted sense of excitement in the face of danger adds an extra layer of intensity. The chemistry between Kira and Wyatt crackles with undeniable attraction, though Kira's repeated reluctance to accept it becomes somewhat tiresome as the story progresses.
One of the book's strengths lies in its vividly crafted world, particularly the challenges set on the island. While the challenges presented are thrilling, there's a sense of longing for even more elaborate trials due to the tantalizing glimpses of ghosts, ferals, and danger from other contestants.
The central romance between Kira and Wyatt provides a steamy focal point for fans of smutty paranormal romance. Their chemistry sizzles on the page, offering moments of tension and passion that are sure to satisfy readers seeking heat.
However, the promise of a standalone novel falls short as it becomes apparent that the story extends beyond this initial installment. Readers should be prepared to invest in the entire series, although whether it's worth the commitment is open to interpretation.
In conclusion, "The Rejected Mate Games" presents a thrilling blend of romance and survival, with a unique premise that sets it apart from typical shifter novels. While it may not be without its flaws, it offers enough excitement and steamy moments to keep readers engaged until the end.
This is only the second shifter book I've ever read so I'm sure there are tropes special to these story lines but without having much to compare this book to (the other shifter book I read was a dragon shifter) I have to say there is a lot going on in this book. There is a lengthy trigger warning section in the front of the book so I would recommend reading this part and deciding if you want to continue.
Kira and Wyatt are co-workers (they work special ops in the magical law enforcement), Kira finds Wyatt to be irritating but even from the beginning you can sense some sparks between them. Wyatt is Kira's brother's best friend and he has appointed himself to be her protector... she doesn't feel that she needs his help and is irritated that he's always getting in the way.
When her latest mission goes wrong things continue to go down hill from there when her fated mate rejects her at their wedding in front of everyone and she finds out that she has lost her job the only way she can see to bring honor back to her pack is to join a dangerous reality TV show The reject project which is a mix of the bachelor/survivor and hunger games where some of the missions actually lead to loss of life and ratings are higher if that happens.
When Wyatt finds out that she has made it on the show he calls in a favor with a past connection and ends up as one of the alpha males looking to win Kira as their new mate. With dangers lurking around every corner and even time spent in the reject mansion (safe zone) things might not be safe with tempers flaring from the other alpha males... how are they ever going to make it off of this Island safely... especially since the host is a Vampire who loves drama and carnage.
Quick read that kept me hooked and I'm now reading the second book!
This premise of this book was okay (if not very original), but the execution was terrible. The writing is amateur. There plot holes upon plot holes, typos, contradictions, and the world building was nonexistent. This book would’ve benefited from the help of a VERY good editor, which obviously didn’t happen.
So many of the concepts made absolutely zero sense. The first thing that made me WTF out loud was that “real shifters don’t have cars. It’s dishonorable.” Real wolves just shift and run where they need to go in wolf form. They don’t need something as human as a car. 🤨 That is the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard. How do the shifters do simple shit like go to the grocery store or run errands where they need a trunk to bring things home? What if they just don’t feel like fucking running miles to go to a friend’s house? What if it’s raining? What about traveling or going anywhere with their kids? It was implied that the shifter’s wolf doesn’t make an appearance until they’re older, so what are the parents doing with their kids when the parent is running everywhere as a wolf? Are they riding mom and dad like fucking horses? There were so many idiotic things like this mentioned that it threw me off and made me be like “wait wtf” the whole time I was reading.
The whole storyline was poorly executed, poorly thought out, and ridiculous. It’s not believable that anyone would volunteer to be on this show and the show premise doesn’t even make any damn sense.
It ends on a cliffhanger, but I don’t care enough about the ending to put myself through the abuse of reading the remaining books.
This book follows Kira after her mate rejects her publicly and brutally. She enters the Rejected Mate Games to redeem herself and win, so she can ask the Goddess Heline for a favour as war between the wolf packs seems imminent. Ruining her plans is her brothers best friend, lone wolf Wyatt. He's there to protect her and see that she survives. The games aren't sweet and romantic, but dangerous and deadly. Kira is beyond annoyed that Wyatt is there. However, things aren't as they seem on reject island. There's dangerous creatures and dangerous trials, the host is a psychotic vampire, and the shows producers seem intent on killing everyone. To survive, Kira and Wyatt need to keep their wits about them and figure out what is really going on at the games. That's hard to do when you're also falling hard for each other.
I was a little iffy on this book for a bit. I felt like the relationship between Kira and Wyatt was kind of getting in the way of a great story. It might not have helped that I didn't realise it was a series that was centred around the main couple. There were so many plots going on that I got over Kira and her idiotic thinking. World building was great, and I felt that deserved more air time. However, seeing as it's a series, it set up will for the next one! I will be reading it, even if just for the I want to know what happens factor.
Definitely drags and is repetitive at times. I also don’t understand Wyatt. Like he doesn’t believe Kira can take care of herself at all and is all about saving here but like dude, she clearly doesn’t need it. At the end of each of his chapters, he’s like “I’ll stick to her like glue and make sure she doesn’t die!” Over and over and over and over again. He also bitches the whole time about hating that rhe cameras follow him but like hello, it’s a reality show? Get used to it or shut up. And Kira also needs to put him in his place more; I guess she tries but it’s weak. Finally around like 50-60%, their dynamic evens out a bit more. Still though, it dragged. It probably could’ve been like 100-150 pages shorter and nothing would have been missing other than the same repetitive dialogue about keeping Wyatt safe, Kira being confused, Omar being an ass, and whatever else I just started skipped.
Also, I’m not sure if there was another series set in the same world before this or something, but it definitely felt like there were a few background points missing. I just assumed they would eventually be explained somewhere, but they weren’t really. Like you don’t learn anything about the tranquility council or the tranquility operatives beyond surface level and yet they talked about all the time as if you should already know how the council works or exists.
I don't have a lot of space so I'm going to say I wouldn't read this series and go over what I believe to be the biggest flaw. When kira shifts on live TV and her family finds out that she is capable of shifting and they've been lied to and unnecessarily suffering in a society where people and their families are judged by their ability to shift and the power and size of their wolf, they should be furious and even consider disowning her. She could have spared herself the rejection if she would have just shifted with the rest of her society instead of pretending that she couldn't and suppressing her wolf. Her parents and brother had a right to know because she was 12 when she shifted for the first and only time and killed someone in self defense. They could have helped her work through her insecurities about shifting and gotten her counseling which would have led to her shifting regularly. When they're totally fine with it in the book, other than being shocked, I decided that this book isn't that well written or thought out. The author isn't putting herself in the minds of her characters and REALLY seeing her story from their perspectives.
