The Bermuda Key by B.R. Bentley

Rate this book
The investigation into the disappearance of the emerald-encrusted gold San Pedro cross from the Bermuda Maritime Museum by its insurers, the local police, Scotland Yard and Interpol has ended. All leads have gone cold. In its place remains an impeccable forgery.Discovered by two salvage divers off the coast of Bermuda, only one of the divers and the Silenti, a secret group of cardinals based in the Vatican, are aware that the cross contains a priceless hidden key. Only the cardinals know of the key’s significance to the Papacy. With all investigations at a standstill, the questions remain. Who made the forgery, and who stole the cross? Who has the key, and what is its significance to the Church? Years later, in two seemingly unrelated an obscure obituary photograph exposes the probable location of the key and, only months later; several detailed drawings of the cross arrive by mail at the home of one of the investigators. In a subtle blend of fact and fiction, B. R. Bentley skilfully interweaves the attempts of the various protagonists to obtain possession of the key with the renewed investigation into the disappearance of the San Pedro cross in this, his latest book, The Bermuda Key. A stand-alone novel in its own right, The Bermuda Key is also the seamless sequel to B.R. Bentley’s previous book, The Cross, bringing events to a thoroughly enjoyable, albeit highly unexpected, conclusion. Inspired by real events, the fake cross remains on display in Bermuda while the crime, on which both books are based, is still one of the island’s greatest unsolved mysteries.
