My Twisted Drink

Rate this book
In this futuristic society, Vampires exist alongside humans without fear. Charlotte is one such human who has become renowned for her skill as an exceptional drink for vampires in an elitist club atmosphere where drinking blood and sensual pleasure is the norm.

When Charlotte's best friend and co-worker, Charisse, drags her to a local mansion to interview as a "personal drink" to a local vampire, Charlotte isn't happy about it. Nor is she happy when she's selected by Alexander, the vampire who had actually refused her offer of a drink in her club only recently.

Charlotte moves into Alexander's mansion and meets Nathan, his servant, who is obviously more than he appears to be at first glance. Is he more than human? Both Alexander and Nathan are handsome and she starts to learn more about their world than ever before.

Nathan is clearly hiding something. His abilities are definitely not human and maybe that's part of his appeal. Charlotte meets more vampires and other people who exist in this twilight world. She learns more about herself, how she relates to others and the uncanny power she holds over the two males who co-habit the mansion with her. Intrigue, love, power plays, suspense, fear and seduction; all of these play out in various scenarios during Charlotte's "relationship" with her new guardian and his servant...but where will it lead to in the end? Only time will tell.

Free kindle unlimited read..

the author needs an editor to help take the book to the next level.

The heroine kept attacking herself by calling herself a whore and slut. She was in love with the hero but had sex with someone else...?

The story was mostly about the heroine living with the hero, and her constantly getting upset with her situation or thinking she's hot.

I finished the whole book, but it seemed really dragged out and long. Theres a sex scene that keeps being brought up in the book when the heroine accidently has sex but i couldn't find the scene in the book..?

Also there was male on male action, but these males were not gay or bisexual.I'm not sure why this was brought up over and over in the book.

Free kindle read. The story is far better than most free reads - the characters are well developed, the plot is plausible (for the most part) and interesting, and there are even some very mild sexy bits. Overall I liked this, I mean, I read it for hours on end (like 16 hours or so) because I couldn't put it down, I was enjoying the characters far too much.

I have one HUGE issue, and a few smaller ones though.

My largest issue is perhaps a spoiler, but I don't really think so. The author keeps mentioning the time the heroine and hero "accidentally had sex". Now, first off, you can't just accidentally have sex, what, did she fall on his cock?? Second, THIS NEVER HAPPENED!! It's mentioned a few times throughout, but finally close to the end you learn it happened her first night in the mansion. I went back and re-read it thinking I might have swiped too many times and passed pages without realizing. Nope. It NEVER HAPPENED.

Clearly there was an edit at some point and the author didn't bother to go back through the rest of the book to make sure the deleted scene wasn't mentioned. To me, it's a big deal because the KEEP mentioning it, and base other decisions/feelings on it. Edit people!! EDIT!

Okay, second issue, related to the first, and more SPOILER. So don't read if you don't want to know!

Only until nearly half way through the book or more, the reader learns that the' accidental sex' was supposedly her first time having sex EVER. What?! I can't imagine even Charlotte who is so good at putting things behind her would just let that one slide, not with her past being what it was. Cause I mean, if she'd not had sex before coming to the mansion (first she was twenty, then a chapter later 19), she must have had a reason not to, why wouldn't that reason stand?

Also WHAT THE FUCK, a VIRGIN?!? How could she possibly spend 50% of the book bemoaning the fact that she was a "dirty slut" in her own mind when she'd never actually had sex before? It felt like the author was judging the heroine, who I clearly fell in love with, for being a slut - what's so wrong with being a slut anyway? That pissed me off.

Oh! And homophobe much!? Any time anything sexy ever happened between two boys the author made sure Charlotte and/or Alexander were disgusted by it, even if Alexander appeared to be having a good time until she showed up and disapproved. That really bothered me. And all the men that slept with other men denying being gay or even bisexual, and being adamant they preferred women and were striaght? WHAT THE HELL? Why does it have to matter?! Why can't they just enjoy each other without all the negativity. What the hell is so wrong with being gay?! Nothing. Sadly this author doesn't seem to agree.

I know I've ranted, but honestly, if the author wasn't so good at making her characters real I wouldn't care half so much - one passion excites another kinda thing.

Don't think too hard, and it's a good read, despite it's faults. If I had it to do over again, I'd still read it, her characters are too wonderful to miss!

My Twisted Drink: A Vampire Romance

In a society where Vampires exist alongside humans without fear, Charlotte is a human who has become renowned for her skill as an exceptional “drink.” She works in a club, along side her best friend Charisse, pleasing her customers, vampires from all walks of life. When Charisse drags Charlotte to a local mansion for an interview to be a "personal drink" to a local vampire, Charlotte gets the job, much to her own chagrin. Charlotte then moves into Alexander's mansion and meets Nathan, his servant, who is obviously more than he appears to be at first glance. But what is he? Both Alexander, her new vampire boss, and Nathan are hiding things from her. Nathan’s abilities are definitely not human and Alexander’s old-fashioned ways keep Charlotte on her toes. Charlotte meets more vampires and other people who exist in this twilight world. Intrigue, love, power plays, suspense, fear and seduction; all of these play out in various scenarios during Charlotte's "relationship" with her new guardian and his servant...but where will it lead to in the end? Only time will tell.

I give “My Twisted Drink” 3 out of 5 stars. If the writing and editing had been better, it would have gotten much higher marks. The story is engaging and enjoyable. I like the world that Ms. Mayer has created. It is very interesting and mysterious. She reveals a little at a time. There are many creatures in it besides vampires and normal humans. However, the book could use some heavy editing. For example, the author has one character’s dialogue mixed in the same paragraph with another character’s thoughts or actions. It can get very confusing at times. Overall, if you can excuse the confusing dialogue, the book is a very fun read and I recommend it.

3 out of 5 Stars

I'm really shocked at how much I loved this book! It was a freebie for the kindle, so I picked it up knowing that it met my criteria of paranormal romance. I started reading it randomly and just could not put the darn thing down! I kept expecting the worst (as I've seen with free books before) but the book sucked me in completely. I stayed up late last night to finish it because I had to know how it ended. The characters were so developed and the storyline (while some people probably won't like it) was great for me. There was a great balance of smut to storyline to make this one of my rare 5 star books (something I'd pick up and read again). READ THIS BOOK! Well, okay, it's probably not for everyone, but my smut/paranormal friends: READ THIS BOOK! Really.

This book was so so good, it made me laugh and cry multiple times and it was unlike anything I've ever read. With plot twists and a gripping narrative I thoroughly recommend it. I was so sad when I turned to the last page and I'm struggling to pick up another book and not find myself getting upset that it isn't My Twisted Drink. Love love love, JoAnn Mayer please write more amazing books for me!

The first thing I have to say about this book is that I really, really liked it! Secondly, it was a looong book. Which can sometimes be a bad thing, but in this case it was a good thing. A lot of characters were introduced in this book, which could possibly lead to other books. I hope this author writes more books in the future or is at least working on a new one.

I loved this book! I could not put it down reading it by flashlight because I didn't want to disturb my hunny who was sleeping next to me! I was hooked from page one! I loved the characters and the relationships between them all. I am happy the author didn't cave to convention even though I cried my eyes out more than once! I plan to watch for more from this author!

I found this book to be a long, slightly drawn out read. I quite enjoyed the premise but the male lead was not really my idea of a very old, very powerful vampire. The world I found quite interesting as well as the twists of the vampire traits but I definately had a "finally" moment as I finished the book.

Stop before you start!I can't believe I read the whole thing..I kept waiting for it to get better, but it didn't. Charlotte is so annoying. Alexander is so weird. The story went on forever. I read about a book a day and this by far is one of the worst..only good thing about it, is it was a kindle freebie.

Free kindle download. Interesting storyline potential. Liked the characters and development. But it had some major flaws in the story consistency, with some additional editing it could be much better.

Now this was a pretty good book. I just got lost in the book. It's a little different then the regular vampire books that I usually read.

My Twisted Drink is a pretty dark book. I honestly never knew what was going to happen next. I was greatly surprised.

It was pretty hot. I didn't like the main character mostly because she was so impetuous that it was distracting from the book. In my head I cast Alexander Skarsgard as the vampire and Johnny Lee Miller as his servant.

There was something about the writing that seemed so simplistic and the main character was so unappealing (squealing every time she did her job) that I don't feel like continuing.

I really liked this book, it was hard to put it down.

Some things were nog very plausible but for a free read on kindle it was better than most free reads.

3.5 would have been higher but for 2 continuity issues (one big and one minor) and the author stretched it a little too much at points. Barring that, I did enjoy it and sped my way thru it.
