I really tried with this one, because it has so many really good reviews. Only one mentions "minor" editing problems. Minor? Are you kidding me?

EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that this book has been re-edited. So I am going to stop reading now, and wait til I get the "edited" version. Although it seriously pisses me off that once again, paying customers are being used as free editing for authors who can't be bothered or don't want to pay a real editor.

Reading edited version now, and the "O'Neill's" are still coming to dinner, she still walks "pass" her sister. The first paragraph is a bit smoother though.

Still lots of skipped commas. "Connor is Erin's age fourteen".

Yep, the family still switches from "O'Neill's" in chapter 1 to "O'Connell's" in chapter 3. This author needs better free editors! I will come back and redit the rest of the review as I decide to read on with the book.

First off, we have the "O'Neill's" coming to visit. Then suddenly, they are the "O'Connell's". (that punctuation isn't mine BTW, it's how it is in the book. The "O'Neill's are coming to dinner. The O'Connell's have arrived". Seriously.

Lots of "youre/your" and "they're/their" goofs.

Sentences are overly simple, like a kid would write. "I kill the engine and get out. Vito tosses me a beer. I catch it and smoothly pop the top. I take a long pull of it."

The guy learned how to "intimate" people at a young age. I think he means "intimidate" people, but what do I know?

Here is an actual sentence: "When it is time to stand and sing". Um, when it is time to stand and sing what?

Another one "As I get out of the car, after sitting with Vito watching Megan play dirty dancing in the water with some tool I've never seen before". You do what?

We have now seen the "Hero" beat up a guy and break his fingers. He's getting lessons from Donny the Knife on how to dislocate a guy's shoulder. He seems to feel no remorse or anything, that's just life where he comes from. THIS is supposed to be dreamy hero guy?

We meet Maria, who is the school whore (hero's words), who is so skanky she probably fucked her own cousins. (again, hero's words. hooray for slut shaming!)

I'm still trying to work my way through this, so I'm sure I'll be back with more thoughts. I just wanted to get at least ONE review out there that was honest about what a hot mess this thing is.

Bland as a potato. I've been on a hiatus and I'm too exhausted to read. This mafia novel was free on Amazon and it's one of the backlist titles I'm rooting for because it's mafia romance. (You know how much I love this trope and I can't resist reading it.)

Anton and Megan's story is an insta-love. There's a lot to be explored between them and it's too short. Everything happened so quickly it doesn't make any sense. I might continue the series but it's not a priority.

2.5 Loving monsters STARS

"Don't think, just do."

description

description

description

En conclusión: Lastima que la escritura sea tan mediocre, pero en si la historia si me gusto y pudo llegar a más.

I really, really, really liked this story!
I loved Antonio and Megan! Ok I really LOOOVED Antonio! He's mob boss's son, and he's so hot and bad and so deliciously alpha male! He is crazy about sweet and innocent Megan (kinda Travis from BD crazy), the only girl he's forbidden to touch. I was beaming when they were together, they were so perfect for each other. I also loved the mafia element, although I sometimes had this feeling that I'm watching L.DiCaprio and C.Danes in "Romeo & Juliet" but they don't committe suiside in the end. And the end! Such a cliff-hanger! Definitely going to read the sequel, bcoz I so didn't wanna this book to end!

Oh Antonio, Antonio....

"I have to control myself from shoving her into an empty classroom and kissing every freckle on her face. The more I spend time with her the more breathtaking I find her. I’m in deep shit!"

"It takes an effort but I restrain myself. I want to flip the switch to recline the seat and cover her with my body."

"I take a deep breath relishing her scent and closeness. It’s like a dream. After all these years,I am holding her in my arms."

"I feel sick to my stomach. My heart is pumping way too hard. The anxiety is killing me. Friend I can deal with. I think. Boyfriend? I think I will fuckin’ kill someone-starting with Troy. Troy? What kind of an asshole name is that? Wasn’t that a country like a thousand years ago?"

and sucha witty comebacks...

"I laugh again, “What are you going to do Mr.Delisi, tie me up and throw me in the river?-“I wouldn’t throw you in the river, but tying you up has been on my mind before.” His face is serious, and he squeezes my hand to jerk me closer."

description

"With my face nuzzling her neck and my hand cupping her hip I say, “I don’t want to let you go.I want you all to myself.” “What are you gonna do, kidnap me?” she says joking. She stiffens under me when I say, “I have resources you know.” - “I bet you do.”

I finished Mobster's Girl last night... It was so difficult to put it down, honestly. I had to because it was Father's Day and I felt like my dad and husband probably needed my nose OUT OF a book for a little while, but it was painful for me... In spite of having to forcibly put it down for hours yesterday (which about killed me), I still ended up reading the whole book in one day, reading late into the night. At any rate, while I don't normally read YA or mobster-type stories, I really loved it since there was enough UST to keep my pervy mind interested. The whole mobster thing isn't something I'm very familiar with, living in the rural area I do, and big cities are kind of like other planets for me. But, I felt I was able to clearly see everything and smell the smells of the city. And I loved that there was a history between the H/h, not just an instantly in love thing that makes stories kind of unbelievable. Also, the story totally kept me on my toes and wasn't predictable at all, IMO. I was floored by her own past! :) I can't wait to read the next installment. This one is even going in my OMG category...!

The writing in this book was pretty elementary. It lacked depth and emotional engagement. It was a quick read so it wasn't bad. But I wouldn't count this book in my top 10 mafia romances.

Mobster's Girl by Amy Rachiele

So this is the first book I’ve read by Amy Rachiele, her writing was easy to read, plot and character development was well written, and the story flowed really well. I picked up this book this afternoon and finished it in one sitting with a few cups of coffee.

Mobster’s Girl is about a young woman name Megan who all the sudden notices Antonio is looking at her. Antonio is tall dark and handsome and a bit dangerous young, he is also from a very well off and powerful family in their neighborhood. The title of this book says it all. Antonio remembers meeting Megan when he was 5 years old and is fascinated with her, but years ago he and his friends were warned by his father not to go near her. But you know what happens when parents tell you not to do something…. They talk ………….and Antonio knows he want Megan to be his. Megan knows her parents won’t approve but that doesn’t stop her, she gets butterflies when he smiles at her.

Mobster’s Girl is about romance, coming of age, and finding out sometimes people are not always what they appear. I really enjoyed Megan and Antonio’s love story and cannot wait to read more.
I have to thank Amy Rachiele for listing her book in our group We ♥ YA Books, and offering our members copies to review so thank you. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series Awakening the Mobster which I just found out was released 2 weeks ago.

I have rated Mobster’s Girl a 4 star rating and if I could I would give 4.5 stars.

THOUGHTS

This is a young adult story that I would recommend to a mature audience. This story contains a blend of a mob feel from a younger generation. Antonio, is following in his father's footstep as his father is a mob boss. Antonio is a regular teen, depending on the day of the week and what jobs he is running for his father. As young as Antonio is, he is feared by his fellow teenagers and classmates. The one person, he doesn't want to fear him does and that's, Megan. Megan is Irish and has grown up in the same area as Antonio. Megan is clueless of Antonio's feelings for her. The more unaware Megan is, is the more intense, obsessive and possessive Antonio gets about her. Megan is shy and carefree. She always do what she is told and was always warn to stay away from Antonio and his gang. Antonio, as macho as he seems, he is very vulnerable when it comes to Megan. Of course this wouldn't be a story without a triangle, as others feelings come into play from other characters. I love Megan and Antonio's story and I love seeing their love come alive.

Their story is one of almost forbidden love, as family plays a part in their romance. This story reminds me of one of my favorite movies, A Bronx Tale. It had almost the same atmosphere of a mob like/forbidden love/ teen love concept. The writing was a bit iffy at times but the story supersedes that for me.

A few weeks ago I saw a review for this book and knew I needed to read this book. So, when I saw that the author was offering the second book, I jumped at the possibility. I have the second book, but since its a continuation of the first, I had to read the first before.

Yesterday I was at work for 12 hours, and was exhausted. I figured I would start this book and fall asleep a few pages through. Nope, that didn't happen. Three hours later, I was still awake and completely finished it. I could not put this book down!

Its the ultimate bad boy and the ultimate good girl. They fall in love, and their families are against it. Every good girl falls for a bad boy. I know I did when I was younger, heck, I married one!

The only bad thing about the book was that the twist was a little predictable. About halfway through the book I started having a niggling little feeling, and sure enough, I was right.

I can't wait to curl up tonight with the next book!

5-Mobster-stars .

I’m totally and completely in love with this story and Antonio obviously.

”If you are going to avoid anyone in this town, avoid Antonio Delisi, Jr., the Mob boss’s son”.

Antonio:

”My mom says, ‘he’s got the devil living in him.’ She may be right because seeing him right now; he looks nothing like an angel”.

Megan:

description

Eighteen year old Antonio Delisi Jr. is Mob boss’s son. After turning eighteen, he’s got to understand his responsibility to his father's business. He's supposed to collect money from people and he has been told to beat them if they don't have any. He just does whatever he's told to do and as his father says "Don't think, just do."
Anyway, he has always liked Megan but he was strictly told to stay away from her. But now, he has decided that he can't do that anymore. He know that she's afraid of him but he really wants to change that. Everyone around him is aware that he likes Megan... except Megan. Antonio's friend, Alessandra invites Megan to her party where he charmed Megan and took her out. To date her, he had to take his dad to Megan's parents to ask for their permission and reluctantly, both her parents agreed. One day, Antonio went to collect money and he was told to break the guy's leg if he didn't give money. Megan's father took her at that guy's place and she witnessed all that. Antonio's father and Megan's father cunningly planned this to separate them and they succeeded. After that, Megan refused to see him at all. But, eventually they both came around, but this time they kept their relationship low key. After few weeks, when she got home, there was an assailant who had bound her mother and sister. But, her father came and rescued them. Megan's father asked Antonio to keep both his daughter's safe as he couldn't trust anyone with them. Now Antonio, Megan, Megan's sister Erin and Antonio's friend, Vito are flying out of New Jersey to keep both the girls safe. Story to be continued in.. Awakening the Mobster

This book was recommended by a friend and since it was free I thought I'd give it a try and I'm so glad I did.
I really enjoyed this and after just a few pages I was hooked. Antonio is son of the Palmetto, New Jersey mob boss, he's eighteen and has been training his whole life to eventually take over from his father.
He has a nice car, plenty of money and his life is pretty good considering but he and his friends have been given one rule 'stay away from Megan O'Neill'
Megan's family moved over from Ireland when she was five years old, she's a beautiful and intelligent girl who's been given one rule 'stay away from Antonio Delisi and his friends'
They both try really hard but the attraction is there and it's not going away and it gets to the point where they just can't fight it anymore.
Like I said I really enjoyed this book and not only was it free but there's a link at the end where you can get the second book 'Awakening the Mobster' for free as well.

I really enjoyed this book. I only wish it had been a bit longer. It seemed that just when things started getting exciting, there was the end. Although the characters might be a bit cliché (shy, pretty 'good girl' versus handsome 'bad boy'), it works for the story. I love Megan and Antonio and the circumstances surrounding their relationship. They've known of each other their entire lives but have been kept at a distance.

This is a classic story of star-crossed lovers, which I immensely enjoyed. The author is a great storyteller, going back and forth between Megan's and Antonio's points of view. With this style, we get to see a bit of both of their worlds. The author kept enough of the story back to keep us guessing but told us enough that we wanted to know more.

Just my thoughts...

I loved Tonio, the hero. Why? Cos he is gorgeous and talented and flat out top dog alpha male, he's the mob boss's son (in EVERY sense of the word!! be warned!) They call him lady-killer for a reason - although he isnt a man-ho, he makes smoking look sexyyyyyy, he is fixated on Megan, the heroine, the only gentling influence in his life. (He reminds me so much of Travis from Beautiful Disaster)

Lotsa lustful thoughts but no explicit scenes. The violence though, is typical of my idea of mobsters - no pulled punches here. He lives by his pop's motto: "Dont think, just do"

Megan is sweet, innocent and beautiful and perfect for Tonio.

I shouldve picked up on where the story was going but missed it because I was so fixated on their relationship and all the other good things about this story.

There is a sequel so watch out for the ending.

I worried about the lack of editing but not enough to put me off. I will be looking out for this author's books and hope the next one comes SOOOOON!

ETA for some good news: - the author says she has ".....re-edited the book, no content changes......"

Good read but could have been great…

Mobster’s Girl is a YA Romance written by Amy Rachiele. I read this as a R2R with We ♥ YA Books! As always, a special thank you to the mods and author for allowing me to participate.

The Review:
I liked this book. It was a sweet story about two opposites coming together only to find out they aren't so different after all. I really liked both Megan and Antonio. Megan was sweet and shy but also stern and formidable. Antonio was the quintessential mobster’s son. He was learning the family business as the author takes us inside his world rife with violence. But at the same time he’s also trying to keep his darker side from Megan. Troy was Megan’s best friend and his unrequited love for her was heartbreaking as he realized he was losing her to another.

You get a switch between both Megan and Antonio’s POV’s which is done very well and allows you to see into both of their worlds. There are shocking and exciting moments as well as secrets to discover in this book, but there was just something missing.

My biggest complaint is this book glossed over events that I felt should have been written out so the reader could experience them along with the characters. I wish there had been more dates between Megan and Antonio or at least more interaction before they both realized they were in love. The relationship, although building from a distance since childhood, just seemed rushed once they connected and since the book itself was so short, I thought the author could have added a few more events to really draw the reader into their relationship. All the right components were there to make this a truly fascinating love story but it just didn't follow through thoroughly enough for me.

Also, I didn't understand the mother’s reaction to Megan’s pain. She seemed like a caring mom up until that point and then she just sits back and smugly smiles down at her daughter from a haughty perch while her daughter is suffering? Oookay…

The Wrap Up:
Though I enjoyed this book, I wanted more time to get to know the characters. I wanted to spend more time inside their lives but the story was so short, coming in at about 130 pages, that there just wasn't enough time or events to really sink my teeth into them.

Though this book isn't listed as a series, there is a second book titled, Awakening the Mobster, and I was entertained enough that I’ll probably read on to the next.

There was something so compelling about this book but I can't for the life of me say what it was.
It wasn't the best written, I was confused at times as to what time era it was supposed to be set in as some things that happened & were said seemed like the book was set in the 30/40's but then the H says something that reminds you that you are firmly planted in the now.
I read the book in one sitting as it is quite short but even at that it was late and I had to get up for work early the next morning and I should have put it down but I just couldn't.
I am looking forward to reading the next one to see exactly where the story goes.

I would like to thank the author for giving me this book for an honest review. That being said: I loved it!! I wasn't too sure what I would think or feel, but as soon as I started I couldn't put it down.

This story is about Megan and Antonio. They both live in Jersey and have been told they are off limits to each other since they were kids. But secretly, they have had crushes on each other forever. The beginning felt a little like Romeo and Juliet. They are now 18, and Antonio is having a hard time keeping his feeling to himself. He watches her all the time, and all his friends and family notice. So Alessandra decides to help him out, invites Megan to a party, and things heat up from there. Antonio takes a chance and Megan gives in. But things aren't always as they seem, and both have problems in the mob, even if they don't realize it. Circumstances try to tear them apart, but in the end they are thrown back together to survive.

Even though Antonio is the mob boss' son, I could not help falling for him and wanting things to work out with Megan. And Megan ended up being a pretty stong female with what was thrown at her.

The romance was great and tense, and not overbearing. This does have mob violence and language, so it is for a little bit older teen and adults. I highly recommend for a different kind of love story, and I am off to go look up the next book!

What to write....
description

Was it goofy and ridiculous at times, with made up italian and wrong translations? Yes.
Did I like it? Yes.
Will I read the next one in the series? It's already waiting for me.

Antonio is an awesome character. Still wet behind his ears, this possessive, aggressive, barely 18 alpha boy is turning into a ruthless killer, or Mob Boss of New Jersey if you like. He's obsessed with our heroine, since he was 5 and well, you can guess the rest.

description

Megan is an interesting character. She's a nice, innocent redheaded girl, but toward the end she surprised me and I want to read more.

description

The story is about the forbidden love, highschool drama/angst and sweet romance, packed with mafia action.

I'm kinda hooked and I'm off to the next one

4.5 stars WOW, great bk. Thanks to MelissaB over on Amazon for this rec. Antonio is intense! Jealous, possesive, protective - but what else to expect...he's the son of a mobster. A big WHOA moment too that was totally unexpected. Nice drama/suspense element. Only negative is that the story continues. Not really a cliff hanger ending but enough that left me anxious for the next one - Awakening the Mobster. Can't wait!

I picked this one up on a whim and couldn't put it down! Despite a few flaws (i.e. minor editing errors and a predictable (for me at least) plot reveal), Mobster's Girl might very well be up there with my fav 2012 reads. I'm floored!! The characters were amazingly drawn out...the main characters as well as the secondary. The storyline switches POV between the two main characters, Megan and Tonio...and the voice of each character is spot on. I'm not usually one to appreciate inner monologue, but in this case I absolutely loved getting into the characters heads. Megan's best friend, Troy, adds additional tension to the relationship developing between Megan and Tonio - even those of you that can't stand "love-triangles" will totally fall in love with his role as well.

There was one aspect of the ending that did catch me off-guard (although it wasn't the main reveal)...this twist only served to make me that much more excited for the sequel and become totally stoked about a secondary character that I hadn't given much thought to before.

Tonio is now up there with my top "book crushes". His feelings for Megan practically jump out of the book. As the son of the mob boss in Palmetto, NJ, he's tasked with tracking down "runners", collecting on dues owed to his father, and handing out punishment to those that haven't paid in full. This isn't a lifestyle that lends to a quiet/calm personality. The anger and violence he often feels is tempered by Megan, whose mere presence is usually enough to calm him at his worst. Notice I said "usually"...feelings of jealousy/insecurity also tend to crop up where she is concerned. The emotional angst is palpable, especially throughout scenes written in Tonio's POV.

To anyone who loves "bad boys" and reads such as "Crow's Row", I can't recommend this enough! This is a fast paced, action-packed book...with absolutely no filler scenes. There wasn't a single moment while reading this that I felt bored or wanted to skim to the good stuff.

Seriously...buy now!! I'll be stalking this author for any details or teasers for the upcoming sequel "Awakening the Mobster"!!! Can't wait!

Note: This is recommended for Mature YA due to strong language and violence.

First I must say from the cover I had no idea this was a young adult read. In fact if I would have known I would have probably read the book sooner rather than later. The cover does tell some of the story but I think it pushes readers away thinking they already know this particular story. Antonio is supposed to be 18 and the character on the cover looks 30!
The characters and romance are young the backstory pretty adult. I was pleasantly surprised by this book and its ability to entertain me. The story is unique and has a couple of twists. I was able to figure out one of the twists about half way through but I don't really think the intent was for that to be the big twist. The big twist is understanging how Megan is this shy, sweet, sheltered girl about to leave for college but ends up being the strength of her family. This is explained at the very end. I can visually picture each character in this book mostly due to the great writing by Amy R but some (mob characters) due to movies and TV (The Sopranos, Jersey Shore) never the less the author still fully developes each character (personality and looks). I want to know what happens with Megan's family and sister, Troy, Vito, who is the snitch? Will Antonio get away from it all or does he want to? Will Megan still go to college...pleassseeee I hope she goes? The second book has already been downloaded and will be read tonight.
I enjoyed this authors writing style, the story flowed well, not many editing errors, and as previously stated the characters were very well developed.
When I saw how short the book was I worried the ending would be rushed which occurs in sooooo many stories but it was not. If this story has to be more than one book it ends at the perfect time. I am so glad I gave this book a chance and I will recommend this story. A solid 4 stars as I reallllly liked it and everytime I tried to not read it "They Pull Me Back In." (Couldn't help a little Godfather reference)

First i must say i don t read YA or book with teenegers ,it just not my thing and this is the reason i did not pick up this book earlier. After reading this book i m completely and in love with this story and Antonio .Once you pick up you can 't put it down,i was hook it with the story and characters.Writing style is good,it a bit rushed but it's only 120 pages, so doesn't have much character development. Why not 5 stars? It was lacking in the HOT scenes.

”If you are going to avoid anyone in this town, avoid Antonio Delisi, Jr., the Mob boss’s son”.

This story is about Megan and Antonio ,Antonio is mob boss son,he is crazy for Megan but she is the only girl he can't touch.Megan always have crush on Antonio but he was the forbidden one and she must stay aways from him.

description

Overall it's page turner,Antonio was such alpha(we are talking about 18 years old) but you will be drown to him.

"It takes an effort but I restrain myself. I want to flip the switch to recline the seat and cover her with my body."

I loved this book it was an amazing read I could not put it down I finally finished it at 3 am lol.

I enjoyed the fact that it was written in both perspectives of the main characters it helps you to get a feel for them. I loved all the characters in this book even the secondary ones.

I enjoyed following Megan and Antonio's love story. It was a sweet story as these characters were made for each other and they had such chemistry.

OH THE TWIST!!!

I loved the twist even though I sort of knew it was coming it was great. I enjoyed this book so much that I just had to download the next one.

I would recommend this book to anyone it is a fantastic quick read !!!!

Other then the slight cliffhanger it was a damn good book. Antonio and Megan are like star crossed lovers since they were 5-6 years old. Now 12 years later the need to be together is over powering and Tino will do anything to be with Megan no matter what their parents think. When they do get together they find a peace and love with each other they never experienced before, until the truth comes out to both of them about what teach family is hiding. Like I said it was a ready great book worth more then 5 stars and I cant wait to read more.

I absolutely love this book. I love how mature the characters are and the sexiness between Antonio and Megan. I had always wanted a book with young adults in which the characters are not PG/PG13, we all know that kids nowadays are more R-rated than adults. This book was refreshing and keep your attention. I think the ending was kinda rush but there is a bk 2 so I did not mind as much. Thank you Ms. Rachiele for the wonderful story, can't wait to see what you come up with next.

The "Girl" in the title should have tipped me off. The MCs are seniors in high school. Not my genre. While the story was good, I'm not buying the mobster storyline of an 18 year old boy. Not continuing the series.
