Although a beautiful book, I cannot ignore the privileged background from which the character comes, even more so as it is not directly addressed in in the book. Being a biography, I did not necessarily expect an objective presentation. However, I consider that emphasizing how much struggle did a man endure for someone who nevertheless had the necessary connections to have a more than decent life both during communism and afterwards (compared to other Romanians) is pretty tone-deaf.
Also, the romanticization of his relationship with Vladimir Putin, has not aged well in the current year, 2026. Moreover, the book contains many irrelevant details. Sometimes it feels like a certain story is stretched just to seem more complex or have more pages. I prefer quality, not quantity.
Apart from these aspects, the book is beautifully written and I would say that it is worth reading for people interested in aviation, cosmos, or history in general.
