Thomas Hammer, a pit bull shifter, is bound by magic in his canine form and needs to find a way to break free. He wants to show his owner, Desiree Duvall, the man of her dreams sleeps at her feet every night--she just doesn't know it. Hammer battles members of his old pack out for revenge and tries to protect Desiree from harm. He also discovers a secret organization of shifters who protect the outside world from discovering their existence. Hammer breaks the spell, but still has to win the girl and save the day. Or he can sit, roll over, and stay. His destiny takes an unexpected turn and Thomas decides it's time for Get'n Hammered.
I just finished Get'n Hammered and I have CHILLS!! What a delightful and surprising read! Get'n Hammered is an elaborately woven tale with so many colorful characters. I loved every single one of them! I love a novel with a full cast of characters but you can seldom find an author who has the talent to do this and not confuse or befuddle the reader. Casey Holloway is one of those authors that can successful balance a full cast of well developed characters in a surprising, never boring, very steamy novel that twists and turns and delights from beginning to end. It's so wonderful to see a talented author use her skills to write such an uplifting entertaining yarn. What a pleasure to read. This novel pulled me in. What a delightful idea to think that shifters are all around us. I will read again and again. Once I picked it up, I could not put it down!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. While many erotica novels are short on plot and character development, Get'n Hammered combined a great story and memorable characters with well-written erotic scenes. I really like the idea of dog-shifters, which is a great creative take on "normal" werewolves. I look forward to reading more from this new author.
I liked this one, wasn't necessarily thrilled with all her remembrances of past lovers because i didn't think that it really added to the story. but overall i liked it.
Fun romp with dog shifters. Thomas Hammer is a dog shifter who is kicked out of his pack and spelled into his dog form for a crime he didn't commit. He is rescued by Desiree Duvall, a human who just may be his mate. He has to watch the woman he loves go on about her life treating him like a dog. Unfortunately for Thomas Getting spelled into his dog form isn’t the end of it as friends and compatriots of the dead man want him to die as well. Hammer battles members of his old pack out for revenge and tries to protect Desiree from harm. He also discovers a secret organization of shifters who protect the outside world from discovering their existence. Hammer breaks the spell, but still has to win the girl and save the day.
I totally dug the whole dog shifter thing and I like erotica as much as the next girl (maybe more) but we could have lost one or two of the sex scenes from this book that didn't advance the story in any way and it would have been in my humble opinion a much better book. As it was I am still looking forward to future installments.

Full of excitement and energy! What a fun quick read this was! Made me look at my own two dogs and wonder, shape shifters? Probably not, but what a great imagination Casey Holloway has to create an entire world of canine/human do-gooders.

As I have seen so many reviewers before me say, I really wanted to like this book. A pit-shifter? That’s right up there with a beagle-shifter (in MHO). But this book just isn’t what I had thought it would be. Seems we shouldn’t judge a book by the description, either.
By the end of the first chapter I wanted to tell everyone, “If you are an animal lover, DO NOT read this book!” So fair warning, there are some harsh scenes of animal cruelty in that first chapter. Thomas Hammer, our heroic pit-shifter, is accused of a murder he did not commit. He is banished from the junkyard/dog pack where he was raised and a spell is cast over him, leaving him in dog form forever. He is then sold to a piece of scum (sorry – my opinion there) who fights dogs – and abuses them in the process.
The first chapter also left me confused. I kept thinking there must be at least one previous book as there were characters and circumstances mentioned that I had a hard time following. Come to find out, no, there are no previous books to explain the junkyard dog pack, the magic, the relationships, or B.A.R.C.S.
This leads us to thing number two – Desiree Duvall. Desiree is what I would term conceited. She’s beautiful. Okay, most romance novels feature beautiful heroines. (Personally, I preferred the flawed characters, but that’s me.) In this case, the heroine knows she’s beautiful and mentions it often. She even goes as far as to say “you look hot” and “you look yummy” while gazing at herself in a mirror. For me, that was Desiree’s biggest flaw – her vanity.
Desiree’s conceit I could deal with, but quite honestly, the writing left me disappointed. Thoughts are thrown in, coming from nowhere. In one scene, Desiree is preparing a bath for herself and suddenly stops to say, “I love sex, but I’m hoping to find love”. I actually stopped on that line wondering, “Where the hell did that come from?” Try as I might, I could find no reasonable lead-in. In direct opposition, where there could and should be more details and explanations, there are none.
There is also a lot of filler. You know, unnecessary information in order to boost word count. I think anyone reading this book would know obvious details, and if someone doesn’t they can always look it up. I am not a big fan of filler. In fact, it’s one of my pet peeves. I don’t think we, the readers, need to know that Hammer uses deodorant and brushes his teeth. Some things are just a given.
Okay, we have finally reached the good. Unfortunately, this is a small section. The good was the sex. This is an erotic novel so there is plenty of sex – gratuitous and otherwise. One scene, for example, explains in vivid, erotic detail the night of sex she once had with a former boyfriend. Very, very hot public sex. (Filler, yes, but it is sex so a little leeway is given.)
All in all, I can only recommend this book if you are looking for hot, heavy sex. Get’n Hammered is kind of like a cheap porn movie – lots of sex but the story is kind of lame and there only for a reason to have sex.
Type: Paranormal Romance/ Erotica-- Shifters (dogs) Heat: 3 out of 5 Rating: 3 out of 5
I love a Shifter story. They're hands down my favorite paranormal read so when I saw a Pit Bull shifter story I had to grab it up. That's definitely a first in my book. And it was a fun read as Thomas--who is stuck in his Pit Bull form--deals with shady former pack members that are out to get him and with being tormented by the woman he loves that is just out of his reach.
The quick of it is that Hammer was part of a sick Pack that fostered murderers and rapists and after being framed for a crime he was bound in his dog form and sold into a dog fighting ring. Gah! But he survived and was adopted by a woman named Dez--who he has a total thing for. If only he could shift into his human form! There's a lot going on in Get'N Hammered since it sets up the series with lots of characters in both human and canine form--I loved all of the dogs and their personalities.
And...LOTS of sex. Dez, the heroine, is definitely a fan of it and makes absolutely no qualms about her desires. And poor Thomas stuck in his canine form has to endure her solo and paired adventures until he can figure out how to break the curse that's keeping him from shifting. Poor pooch!
Desiree is a tough woman who runs her own construction company, can cus up a blue streak and take on all the guys. She's got a soft spot for her dog and under all her tough edges wants to fall in love. I was liking her quite a bit. And Thomas (Hammer when in dog form) is a good guy. I loved how he was with the other dogs in his world and how he took care of Desiree doing little things like collecting her clothes she threw all about. One of those weird dog traits if you didn't know he was a shifter.
Even with some editing blips and things not quite all the way thought through--ex the dogs being adopted from a shelter but not neutered when they totally would have been--it was still a fun and entertaining read for a couple of hours that has me curious where it'll go from here. It's not one that'll change your world but if you're wanting a quick steamy read that's a little different shifter-wise it's an entertaining one.
