I borrowed this one from a friend and my French is not really good enough to give an informative review of the book. Charles-André Julien was a well respected journalist and historian specialising in the Mahgreb region. It seems to be comprehensive, informative, well researched and well written, but I had to look up too many words to enjoy it.
This is listed as the English translation: History Of North Africa: Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, From The Arab Conquest To 1830, but I haven't found a copy anywhere.
