This was a good story. I really like Ryan. I had mixed feelings about Jared but he came through in the end. This is the first story I've read by this author. Based on this book I might try something else by her.

Ryan is 22 years old and has been on her own since she was 17. Her mother was killed by and Ryan was almost raped by her stepfather, who is now in prison for his crimes (but has threatened her with retribution). She was saved from him by Jared, a state trooper and friend of her brother's that she's known since she was a kid. Ryan is smart and very sweet. She got through college quickly and now has a job as an event coordinator at a local resort and she does a great at her job. She hasn't had much luck with men though and has always had a thing for Jared, which he's never returned, always treating her more like a kid sister and not like the woman she's become. When she finds out he's moving for a promotion, she wants to get him out of her system so she can move on so she decides to seduce him.

Jared is a state trooper but lives in a small town without a lot of excitement. He wants to move on to a better position with more excitement and gets the chance at a promotion but it means he'll have to move. He doesn't care about this though, since he has a lot of bad memories from his past, including failed marriage and a son that died in infancy. He cares about Ryan but has always refused to acknowledge her growing in to a beautiful woman until she propositions him for sex before he's gone for good. As much as he feels he shouldn't, he starts feeling a strong attraction to Ryan.

Jared, because of his past issues, doesn't believe that a wife and family are meant for him. As a way to protect himself, he refuses to take the chance on a new love or life because it would just hurt too much so he denies he even able to feel that way any more. However, when Ryan tries to seduce him he can't resist her so he tries to keep it at sex only. Ryan knows she can't keep Jared but wants to have some time with him before he goes. She ends up getting a lot more time with him than she expected when a stalker puts her in danger and Jared takes it upon himself to protect her. While protecting her, Jared eventually gives in to his desires and they end up in bed together, and not for just one night. Unfortunately, this seems to just infuriate her stalker, who starts making threats on her life and even against Jared.

There are multiple people that may be responsible for the stalking/threats and it takes a while to investigate all the leads. Spending all this time with Jared isn't easy on Ryan but she tries to hide her love for him and tries to stop it from growing within herself. She doesn't share her feeling with Jared because she couldn't stand to have him stay with her out of guilt or obligation. Jared finds himself having more and more thoughts about whether he wants to leave after all but keeps telling himself he doesn't love Ryan and it's just the stalker's threats that's making him protective of her. Things go around like this for most of the story but (when they believe they've caught the bad guy) it seems it's time to move on and Jared stubbornly sticks to his plan, starting his move to his new town and his promotion. Fortunately, Jared finds he can't drive away and leave Ryan and ends up returning just in time to save her when the real stalker shows up. They come together and both stop denying their feelings, finally getting their HEA.

Overall I enjoyed this story. I really liked Ryan because she's smart, sweet and has a backbone that she's not afraid to use. Ryan made some mistakes along the way but I can understand her reasoning for the choices she made and she was the best part of the story for me. I liked Jared but I have to admit his constant state of denial made it hard for me to like him too much since it was obvious he was lying to himself as well as everyone else. I understand he was damaged by his past but it still put me off a bit. There were a few gaps in the story but overall it a decent plot. :D

This book was reviewed for my blog http://theromancewritersreads.blogspo...
The author provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book started out really strong. Right off the bat you get a strong sense of the history and chemistry between Ryan and Jared. The age difference between them has caused Jared to treat Ryan like a little sister for most of her life. He has a strong sense of responsibility toward her, since her life has not always been a bowl of gravy. He feels like he needs to be there for her. Ryan idolizes Jared, and uses him as a measuring stick against which all men are compared. Ryan seems like the kind of woman who thinks if she loves a man enough, it will pull him out of his pain...and Jared has a lot of pain. After his wife leaves him and his son dies suddenly, Jared is left bitter and scorned. He decides that love and family are not for him, and that a change of scenery is just what he needs to move on with his life. A promotion to an exciting new job takes the front seat in his life, and there isn't room for much else.

Two weeks before he leaves town for good, Ryan begins receiving threats and vicious notes. Someone's out to get her and Jared frantically tries to solve the mystery before his two weeks are up. He won't leave town until he knows she's safe. The suspense was built up nicely through most of the book, and just when you thought you knew who the villain was, another person would pop up with a grudge against Ryan and throw the entire investigation for a loop.

For the most part the characters were likable, although I liked Jared more than Ryan. At times she seemed a little self-absorbed but she's pretty young and that's to be expected. I felt sympathy for Jared and my heart hurt for him and the loss of his son. I wanted him to be healed and realize that Ryan truly loved him and was perfect for him.

The love scenes are hot! This was one area where Jared and Ryan didn't seem to have any problems. For most of the book they try to pretend as if the sex is enough; each time Ryan tells Jared that it won't happen again. But their bond is too strong by this point and when things get rough and Ryan goes to Jared for solace, all talk of ending their sexual relationship is ended.

There were a few issues for me though, and as always I have to address them in the review. For one thing though, I felt as if there was way too much rehashing of the past. It seemed like there was too much lingering in Jared or Ryan's thoughts, all of which seemed to go back in time. After a while it just got old, especially since it had all been spelled out early on in the book. By the time I got to 50% I started to lose a bit of the sympathy that had been sparked in me when first reading their back story.

***Slight Spoiler***
I also found the revelation of the villian to be incredibly confusing and anticlimactic. At first one man is arrested, and then a few pages later it is revealed that someone else was the culprit all along. It was never explained, though, what the first man had to do with the crime if anything. After he was arrested and the second man was fingered as the perp, no one said anything about whether or not the first man had anything to do with it. Was he released? Was he even guilty of anything? It was a bit of a let down after all of the suspense that had been built. In the end it turned out to be the person I suspected, but even that was a bit anticlimactic as I found the final fight between him, Ryan, and Jared to be a bit forced. It was as if the ending was rushed. Jared realizes his love for Ryan on the turn of a dime, goes back, catches perp just in time to save her, happily ever after. It all just felt a bit hurried and after all of the careful building of suspense acheived in the beginning of the book, I was kind of left hoping for more.

Overall though, this is a solid and entertaining read. Jen Talty has strong writing skills and definitely knows how to build on passion and suspense.

Strong willed Ryan O'Connor is pushing barriers, she wants a relationship with her brothers best friend, Jared. She has always had him on a pedestal, he has always had her back and helped her through some of the hardest times in her life. But Jared still sees her as the little sister, until she propositions him. In one of the hardest decisions of his life, Jared decides to leave town and leave his past behind him. He has two weeks to get all of his case work settled and prove to Ryan that he's not the man she needs. All that can go wrong in those two weeks does, Ryan and Jared become entangled lovers, Ryan's safety is compromised as her stalker steps up his game. The anniversary of Jared's sons death is approaching and leaning on Ryan at the cemetery becomes tense when graced with the presence of his ex-wife. As the plot thickens and more characters become suspects, Ryan's behavior starts to unravel, her emotions are all over the place. Yes, she has a stalker who is becoming more and more violent but I didn't get the sense that she was all that worried about the stalker. She was upset one minute then making love to Jared the next. Jared was a little more solid on emotions, kept reminding Ryan to be safe and having the feelings of guilt for not being able to save his son. I understood where he would come from emotional, not wanting to take the risk and have another child, or possibly get married. It's an emotional journey for Jared to say the least, and he still had me wondering, towards the end of the book which way he would go... would he leave or would he stay. My happily-ever-after thoughts wouldn't have allowed him to get as far as he did. The plot held some secrets back, the stalker wasn't exactly who I had pegged. It played it to the story very well, and had me intrigued about some secondary characters. I loved Penny, she's the best friend we all need. She was fun, funny, caring, had a strong personality, and she lives life loud. Overall I enjoyed reading In Two weeks, a lot of action happened within the two week time span but it was well written, and believable. The only thing that distracted me from the novel it's self was Ryan's emotions, they seemed a little to high-maintenance or wishy-washy for me. I would and have read more form Jen Talty and am looking forward to what is coming next.

2,5 stars! A mixture of many things in this book. Jared not wanting to get attached (bc of his son's death and ex), Ryan having a crush on Jared for many years, he saved her step-father from raping her, now someone is trying to get her killed. On that aspect, it was still not 100 percent clear to me why that ending was concluded that way since Jared days before his departure said that they had caught Rudy and he had Ryan's underwear, so how did Tom fit in? But also, he was a suspect all this time, it was a bit obvious but Rudy's part was confusing to say at least. That part was not wrapped up in a realistic way.
This book's title is "In two weeks", and it is mentioned for every passing day, like every day, and I do not understand why. It is not two weeks when many days have passed. In this book, two weeks felt like two months, and it could have been more believable if the number of days that were inaccurate could stop being mentioned.
The growing romance between Jared and Ryan was sometimes annoying, Ryan hiding her feelings, Jared denying his growing feelings, leaving directly when finding out Ryan is not in danger and SUDDENLY in midst of driving, doing an u-turn and going back with a ring nonetheless to say that he loves her and does not want to take that job. He raved about the job the entire book..so I kind of did not understand the sudden love he so desperately had to proclaim.
So there were many issues in this book I realize but it was ok enough to give it a try.

The story started off strong and moved along at a fairly good pace. It was clear from the start that Ryan was in love with Jared, an older man who had been a protective big brother to her for many years.

Jared, a bitter, grieving man, spends a lot of time during the course of the story trying to convince himself that he doesn't need Ryan. This all makes for some great chemistry between the two characters.

I really wanted to give this story 5 stars, but I will explain why I didn't.

This wasn't a bad story but what bothered me most was the rather anti-climactic conclusion. Generally speaking, the one element that pushes a book into that five star category for me is 'surprise'. Nothing in this story really surprised me. Despite this, it was a steady, engaging read that I would recommend to fans of Romantic Suspense.

Really good romantic suspense mystery. Ryan is a strong woman who has overcome tragedy and terrible things in her past. She has very strong feelings for Jared, a New York State trooper, who is her friend, protector and her landlord. He is leaving in two weeks to take a new job away from the area and all she wants is for him to acknowledge that she is a fully-grown woman who knows what she wants. Jared is single but has his own ghosts from his past that keep him from wanting to start anything at all with Ryan. Then someone starts stalking her, then burglarizing her apartment which is on Jared's property. He insists she stay with him for protection while he investigates to find out who the culprit is. She suspects it has to do with her stepfather who is in prison for attempting to rape her and for murder. Then things escalate even more when her apartment is brutally vandalized and also she is left a bloody dead rat in her desk at work. She and Jared end up lovers during the time he has left before moving on to his new job and suddenly the threats start to include Jared as well as Ryan. He has only the two weeks before he leaves to solve this mystery to make sure Ryan will be safe. This is a really well written novel and I recommend reading it to find out just how the bad guy is defeated and also how Ryan and Jared get their HEA. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily writing a review because I want to share just how good it is.

3.5 Conflicted Stars. Jen Talty is a new to me author, I will read more of her stories. While this one didn’t blow me away, it is a good, solid read. Ryan and Jared have known one another for forever, or so it seems. Pat, Ryan’s older brother, and Jared are best friends. Jared rescued Ryan from a horrible situation when she was sixteen or seventeen years old and has been her protector since then. To the point that it played a role in the breakup of Jared’s marriage. Oh, to be sure that marriage would not have lasted anyway, but Ryan was definitely used as an excuse. Now, Jared is seeing Ryan as more than his best friend’s little sister. She is a woman in her own rite. As for Ryan, she has always seen Jared as more than just her “savior.” He is truly the man of her dreams, but there is no way she will ever act on that. Circumstances do change, though… Suddenly, Ryan and Jared must confront their true feelings and that’s when all the “fun” starts. There is more than one thing keeping them apart and feeling guilty about their feelings. Can they overcome it? In Two Weeks kind of has it all: humor; drama; suspense; wonderful characters; and a deadline. So, why didn’t it earn a solid 4 or 5 stars from me? Well, it had it all, but not in the quality/quantity I require for that rating. However, I am bumping it up to 4-stars!

Ryan O'Connor's quiet life has been invaded. Not only has her home been invaded but her life may be in danger. Lucky for her, Jared Blake the man she rents her home from, is a State Trooper and he steps in to get to the bottom of this issue.

Jared is also her self-appointed private protector and has held this position since her mother died. Unfortunately, Jared only has two weeks to get this case settled before he will be moving to take a position in another city.

Both of them have had their share of tragedy and do a really good job of putting up protective walls to avoid dealing with the pain. All this to say, this is a really good, emotionally driven story about pain and possibility you will not want to miss. The characters are complicated and endearing, the mystery hangs in the air and there are more than enough suspects to keep the reader fully engaged.

Talty's books usually include a serious measure of chemistry to balance the mystery and this one is no exception. I really enjoyed the story and am looking forward to the other books in this series.

I received an advanced copy of the book and am choosing to leave a true and unbiased review. Good story, wonderful characters and plenty of mystery and suspense...what's not to like!!!

I couldn't resist getting this book. I have lived in New York State and have known a few troopers. They are very awesome people.

In this book Ryan O'Conner has a stalker who is escalating. She lives in the carriage house on Jared Blake's property. Jared is a State Trooper and also Ryan's brother Pat's best friend.

Now Jared has quite a few personal issues, and part of his solution for them is to accept a new position away from Lake George where he has lived his whole life. He's thinking that distancing himself will solve them.

Ryan on the other hand has had a crush on Jared since she was a teenager. He rescued her from a very sticky situation and he blames himself for not being there quicker. Now that he is leaving in two weeks, she is determined to at least have one night with him.

Jared's surprise for her birthday is stunning, but the party doesn't end on a high note.

This book takes us through Ryan and Jared's relationship, as it goes from simmer to sizzle and it is also very descriptive crime scenes as Ryan's stalker escalates.

Plenty of suspects as tensions rise, and Jared's date to leave town approaches.

I couldn't put this book down, I had to know everything. This is definitely a series I will be continuing.

This is definitely a book of sister in love with brothers best friend but we don't have the flash backs, it is in the here and now which I like. Ryan has always loved Jared but he is older and has already lived and lost in life and isn't interested in anything new or long term as he is finally getting the chance to do a new job that he has already given up on once before. Ryan tells herself it will just be for 2 weeks then he is gone and she basically just needs to get him out of her system, unfortunately she now has a stalker who may or may not be linked to her jailed step farther so Jared goes all alpha on her. There are times where Ryan irks me with her attitude of whats going on and I understand Jared's frustration at her especially as things continue to escalate. There are some good red herrings that side track you as well as plenty of sexy time and lost chances for them to be honest with each other as they deserve a happy ever after especially what both have been through. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Everyone deserves a HEA even a man who doesn't think he's capable to love again.

This was such a cute, fun, sexy, sad, mildly suspenseful book. In Two Weeks is the first book of Jen Talty's that I have read but based on how much I enjoyed it, I'm going to continue with this series. This book is about Jared, a NY state trooper that thinks his job and career are the most important thing in his life. He's been friend's with Pat and his younger sister Ryan most of his life. Ryan had been in love with Jared most of her life but she and Jared have different ideas about what life and love entail. Jared is moving away to a bigger and better job in two weeks so Ryan decides to get what she can from him before he moves away. Throw in a stalker, Jared's personal issues, some fun friends and you have a good solid romance with a touch of suspense.

You know you are engage in the story when you want to yell at the characterizhe your best friend & he s an idiot! lol! That is a great book

Officer Jared everyone can understand being walked up when you walked in Jared shoes. Trust & betrayal were lines he was not willing ever giving up again. Ryan her life is at risk and she has been "off limits" you don't date you best friends younger sister. The case to solve to protect Ryan just brings everything to the surface & protect from the bad guys he does, protect her from the broken heart he going to leave her with.... Loo Dr case awesome to see the cops thinking. This series is awesome and I am hooked, not the best review because I can't wait to start the next book. Violence 2, sex2

There’s something about this book that almost feels like a second chance romance. Even though this is the first time Ryan and Jared are attempting a relationship, they’ve known each other just about forever. Jared is close friends with her brother and he’s one of her dearest friends too. He’s got an alpha protective streak a mile wide that drives Ryan crazy at the same time as it makes her feel cherished. I really liked that this angsty romantic suspense story featured characters that are flawed and complex. It made them very easy to relate to and I cheered even harder for them to get their happy ever after because of it.

A nice enough story but it didn’t really satisfy me. The first book by Talty, there are a few plot holes, the male protagonist dwells so much in the past he loses the chance to be likeable and there are some continuity errors. The resolution is so rushed and the reader is left with more questions. The other thing that bugged me was the female protagonist’s name. Ryan is, for me, a boy’s name. I could live with her name being Ryan except that explains her mother though she was having a bit and filled. Out all of the paper work, naming her son — with a middle name is even more masculine. This has absolutely no relevance to the story so it comes across as plain silly.

Ryan is a headstrong 23-year-old, and she's being stalked. Jared is the state trooper that's looking out for her and trying to solve her case, and he's also her older brother's best friend.

What I liked:
-The setting - takes place in a small lakeside community in upstate New York. I love lake settings!
-Chemistry between the two main characters

What I didn't like:
-The two main characters spent almost the entire book lying to each other. The constant push and pull is annoying as hell, and they don't get their act together until the very end. By that point, it just feels like it's rushed.
-The flow of the book is very uneven. Character actions/dialogue and plot don't always track.

Loyalty

This was a good second chance with a healthy dose of a crush on her brothers best friend. This is one of those where he is trying to be a good guy but is passing up on a good thing. I was happy that they got together because they made it seem flawless. I guess it should have been that way since they knew each other for so long. However I didn't understand the dynamic and was pretty mad at the brother. The author made him seem like a loser throughout the story. Overall it was cute and super intriguing.

I obtained this free e-book from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing a review. Ryan has had a pretty tough road in life but always looking out for her was her brothers' best friend Jared. Now in two weeks he is leaving and taking a new job in Rochester, New York as a Detective on the police force there and he will never know how much he means to her. Ryan has somehow acquired a stalker that is escalating in aggressiveness and Jared is under pressure to catch the guy before he has to leave and no longer will be there to protect her.

Mutual gratification?

So numerous reviews state poor proofing and editing...I can only assume this book has been reworked since these reviews were left, as the version I read didn't have any of the mistakes listed. However I didn't read the standalone version of the book...individually books 8 and 9 are available on Kindle Unlimited, 1-7 have to be bought, BUT books 1-8 are available in a boxset on Kindle Unlimited and this is the version I read...with no typos, missing sentences or paragraphs that are nonsensical! All grumbles from reviews that come up at the top of Amazon when looking at this book.
Both Ryan and Jared convince themselves they can have this two weeks together, let off a little steam and then walk away. But are they lying to themselves or each other? The pressure and feelings get ramped up even more as the threats to Ryan increase in number and violence, she loses a little of her sass, becoming jumpy and nervous and Jared...well Jared is a man so tells himself he has it all under control, ignores the inconvenient feelings and runs as soon as he can! Obviously!
I love that no matter how scared and jumpy she is we still get little glimpses of fiesty Ryan in her zinging one liners, one of my favourites....'On the twelfth of never!' This book has intrigue, humor, a little sex and a great plot twist keeping everyone on their toes.
A good read and a great introduction to the New York State Troopers series, as previously stated I read this on Kindle Unlimited as part of the boxset.

I have read many of Jen Talty's recent books. So I decided to go back and read her first book. It didn't disappoint. Page-turner, suspense. Overbearing, controlling Jared Blake is determined to solve Ryan O'Conner's stalker case in the two weeks before moving on to his dream job. While protecting her, their attraction grows. Can Jared move on at the end of two weeks? Will Ryan's heart remain intact when he leaves? The characters show growth throughout the story.

DNF This book was hard to read. Frequently I couldn’t figure out who was saying what. I would re-read passages and still couldn’t figure out who was speaking. I read the first five chapters and the last two chapters and I am not inclined to try another book by this author. Not a good fit for my tastes.

This was an ok story. I liked Jared more than Ryan. I’m not a big fan of my main characters doing the “horizontal mambo” for purely physical. I know that each of them inwardly are in love but vocally they were just having sex. Not my fav.

In Two Weeks

Another engrossing story from Jen Talty, I enjoyed it from start to finish. I did work out who the stalker was, so not a lot of suspense there, but it didn't wreck the story for me. Now for the next in this series.

Great storyline..kept me guessing until the end, which I nearly didnt make. So many errors spell check obviously didn't pick up, that it became a little confusing at the crucial part.
