Sweeter Than Wine

Rate this book
Terra Cavanaugh had buried the past deep in her mind. She didn’t remember, even when her dying father called to ask her to save the family’s century-old winery from bankruptcy. It was her last chance to rescue her inheritance—and to confront disturbing visions she didn’t understand.

Jake Vreeland had suffered unspeakable loss. When nightmares haunted him, he braved mortal danger to save others. He and his search dog were soon among the best rescue teams in the world—but at a high price. For Jake was searching for something he couldn’t find. He needed rescue himself—from dreams that tormented him, from guilt that weighed him down.

Terra and Jake meet when she returns to Coeur du Vin. They don’t know that they are both searching for rescue, until it becomes clear that someone wants to stop her from saving Coeur du Vin, someone with… murder in mind

Sweeter than Wine

Terra Cavanaugh is returning to her home, a beloved vineyard called Coeur du Vin, she left after her father betrayed her and is not planning to stay however she finds herself drawn in once more battling against her family, reconnecting with local winemakers and meeting new ones and also meeting up with Jake Vreeland who owns a kennel where he trains dogs as well as being part of a search and rescue team.

This book is really hard to classify, is it a love story, well yes but probably more between Terra and her vineyard than anything else. There is a really strong cast of characters from Terra's uncaring parents and insanely jealous brother and sister-in-law, to the gorgeous Jake and his equally gorgeous dogs (I loved Royal so much!), the other vineyard owners like Lysander DuValle who is trying to prove himself to his father much like Terra and the workers themselves, each person springs from the page with their unique personality.
I love the fact that you get detailed descriptions of the process of wine making even if they do all look down on my personal favourite of white zinfandel lol You also get a fascinating look at the amazing work of dog rescue teams. Then story takes a sinister turn as someone appears to be sabotaging the vineyard!

This book is just jam packed with great stories, characters and intrigue, I really enjoyed reading it, very different to other things I have read recently as the focus really was on the story telling.

I rate this book at 5 stars
