Cypher

Rate this book
Although she has no memories before the quake that destroyed the kingdom of Augury, Cypher McCall holds a steadfast hatred of the repressive Cauldian regime now ruling the country. Because her magical gifts are deemed subversive, she does her best to avoid detection. Unfortunately for Cypher, however, she’s too beautiful to ignore. After a Cauldian contingent arrives in her hometown, a chance encounter leaves her repulsed by the arrogant Prince Ewan and attracted to his distant cousin, Lord Joss.

When she learns Prince Ewan plans to tear down the ruins of nearby Castle Augur, Cypher vows to stop him. Although handsome Lord Joss tries to protect her from his vindictive cousin, Cypher can’t bring herself to trust the enemy. At the same time, nightmares and dreams nudge her toward reclaiming childhood memories. She stumbles on a silver key that she hopes will unlock her past, but first she must confront a long repressed horror at the Castle Augur ruins.

Can Cypher evade Prince Ewan long enough to recover her memories? Is Lord Joss all that he seems or is his charm a ruse to ensnare the unwary? Finally, will the knowledge of her true identity tear Cypher apart or empower her to restore everything she ever loved?

This delightful story has chocolate flowers ~ need I say more ? Magic, once the foundation of a great kingdom, is banned after an earthquake destroys the castle. Ten years later, the townspeople are ruled by a tyrannical army. Cypher, an orphan of the earthquake, is about to graduate but she is having nightmares about her past and is having difficulty containing her magic. Enter handsome and kind Lord Joss, accompanying the army as its citizen liaison. Add a magic spell that expires in 10 years, with that being tonight at twilight, and you have a fast-paced, really delicious read !

I received this story in return for an honest review. And I can honestly say that I enjoyed each and every word of Cypher ! Bombastergrazzen !

Lin here segueing away from the trenches of war and darkness that made up the last book I read into MAGIC..Thank You S.G. Rogers. I found CYPHER to be a delightful read, of course this IS my second journey into the magical fantasy world of S.G. Rogers and her version of enchantment is becoming, to quote Julie Andrews, "ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS."

In this story, Ms. Rogers weaves a tale of magic banned by a king and his nasty, avaricious nephew long ago, when an earthquake caused the reigning powers in Cypher's land to die beneath the crumbling mass of their castle. That one act of Nature/ magic allowed the nearby monarch to move in and claim ownership over the remaining peoples, banning all forms of magic.

Ten years have passed, and that greedy little twerp of a nephew has decided to destroy the landmark of the old castle the people cling to and build a castle worthy of himself, their future king in his mind only, much to the rage of Cypher and the other peoples of her land.

Ten years for Cypher, an orphan child taken in by the bar master and his wife to grow into a stunning but outspoken beauty with a boatload of natural magic living inside her, and no respect whatsoever for the ruling outsiders. Magic is banned...but can one ban what percolates in DNA?

I enjoyed Cypher so much I read it twice from start to finish, and found myself wishing it was longer. S.G., I hope you're busy, busy, busy, writing more...but for now....CYPHER....FIVE STARS!

I would give this book six stars if I could! I truly enjoyed how Ms. Rogers drew me into this story with a perfect setup, perfect plot. She laced mystery, magic, and romance throughout this story. The heroine, Cypher, is on a quest to discover her real identity - I love the creative way the author reveals it to both Cypher and the reader. At the same time, Cypher tries to make sense of her gift of magic. In this incredible adventure, she encounters the villain, Prince Ewan but she also finds her champion and heart's reward in Lord Joss!

I started Cypher and a few pages into it I thought that I had the book figured out. I decided that I would like it, but because I had the story figured out that I would be partially disappointed. Boy was I wrong! Whatever you think you have figured out, you don't! The story is unique and interesting! Cypher is a great strong main character, with fire and gumption! She isn't just some beautiful girl waiting to be rescued, she wants to do the rescuing! I loved the story that S. G. Rogers created and how it surprised me; especially when I thought I knew what would happen! Cypher has magic, castles, romance and even some fighting too! A great read when you don't have much time, I highly recommend Cypher! Five stars!

I received this book for free. This is my honest review.

Not much to say about this book, it was okay, way too short though so there was no connection with any of the characters. The plot was very predictable as well.
