Jim O'Neill reluctantly agrees to take part in a ceremonial firing squad at a funeral in his new home town. When an elderly lady collapses, he assumes she's fainted, like everyone else, including her family, who bundles her off. But after her death, they realize that she was shot during the funeral. Jim, as the investigator for the county, must look into the history of the town, and the family, to find the roots of an inexplicable crime.
