With the help of Daniel, Alex, Reaper, and all of the Saints, Clare fights to stop Marcus before his plans bring darkness to the world forever. But are they enough to stop the growing storm?

3.5-This was the last book in the series. We finally get the answers and the battle that we've been waiting for. I was not disappointed in the story. In my first review of the first book I commented how familiar the story was to Twilight. The familiarities ended with the first book. Starting in the second book it became its own beast. The story was unlike anything that I've read before. I definitely give the author five stars on her story, starting in book two. I would however, encourage the author to have the books edited. I understand how expensive that can be, however I'm sure that you can find friends and family that would read it to find errors. The fourth book was almost unbearable and the reason I didn't give it four stars. Nothing worst than to pay money for a book full of errors. I tolerated it, but it just lacks professionalism.
I have one more rant and you don't need to read it. The author includes details about the history of the Michaels family and leaves the readers clues. The clues after reading the book were page fillers. I would have enjoyed the details of the mystery more if the author followed through with the clues to find out what they meant. I know this is pretty cryptic, but I don't like to give anything away in my reviews. If you've read the book it has has to do with the last page of the Michaels history book and how grandpa Michaels tells his daughter to look for the truth in his words that she is the only person that he can trust, yet Ellen isn't included in the discovery of the truth. I also found it unnecessary to bring Ellen and Sam's secret into the story line.
So I wanted to finish reading the series before I commented on it and I have to say another amazing read by a great, great writer. I read a lot of fantasy/paranormal/sci-fi YA and there are few series that are capable of making me experience a gamut of emotions. As I read book after book in this series, I felt I grew to know the characters intimately. I invested myself in the story and rooted for these characters as they met with obstacle after obstacle. I felt their pain as they fought the evil in their midst. I felt their pain when they hurt, both physically and emotionally. The author took me on a ride. For me, as a reader, it was a roller coaster of emotions that I experienced and what I wanted by the end was to see the heinous villain taken out. I held my breath as the events unfolded and exhaled when finally, finally it culminated to the inevitable showdown. Dear fellow Reader, all I can say is I was not disappointed in the least and am now a fan shouting to the mountaintops – YOU GOTTA READ THE WATCHERS SERIES!
With Lorian and Darian out of the way the Saints take their fight to Marcus...which is easier said than done. They face new dangers at every turn but also gain new allies. I found this to be a very satisfying end to this series.
The only problem I had in this book was the same I've had throughout...everyone expects full disclosure from Clare but if she tries to get in on any of their secrets they shut her down. It just got a tad irritating. Besides that I absolutely loved this series. Clare and Daniel are great and I enjoyed following their story.
Great ending to the series! The chaos that Marcus caused is finally dealt with. Clare's final change on her 17th birthday, proved to be beyond what she thought. Many allies gained and the war is officially over.
Favorite Characters- Clare, Daniel, Alex, Spider, Reaper, River, Jackson, and Margaret.
Most Hated Characters- Marcus, Serenity, Odette, Lorian, and Anna.
The Final battle. Always bitter sweet. Sweet because you've been waiting for it, bitter because when you get to it, that means the series is coming to an end. In this case there is no bitter. Because there is a spin off series called the guardians! Woo Hoo!
Alright. In The Last all the pieces come together and you finally see the big picture! And... you just have to read! It's just sooooo good.
Lynnie Purcell, you are a very talented writer. One of my favorites.
The final book in this series...a final battle that you will not be disappointed in. Your many questions will be answered and you will finally understand as the story is fully put together. For a YA series in the fantasy/sci-fi genre, I really enjoyed this series. I will continue on with the next series that is a spin off and I am sure I will not be disappointed there either. Lynnie is a great author!
All the books we’re leading up to the end of this huge fight that we all been like waiting for and then the fight comes in it’s kind a little intense and then we’re wondering if she’s really going to live in the end and then she does and it’s really happy and I was happy to see that you had a really happy ending .
There is a lot to cover in this book. There is a lot of action, many revelations, strengthening of relationships, tear-jerking… heartbreaking moments. This conclusion of a great series is a wild, rollercoaster ride.
Clare saves Alex while Alex rallies the Nightstalkers to save Clare and Reaper. Daniel saves Han and Beatrice then finds that Clare, Alex and Reaper carried out a mission just as large and dangerous as he, Jackson, Spider and Serenity completed. Daniel and Reaper begin to see the value of Clare and Alex to The Saints.
Meeting Odette is a plot device that sends Clare to the Historian and also helps slightly in the construction of the history of Clare’s family. Odette is an aside that creates a bit of confusion just before Clare’s change in that it is never really clear what she reveals to anyone else besides Spider. There are a few loose ends in this part of the story that are not tied up before the conclusion.
Clare’s value as a Watcher increases exponentially with her visit to the Historian because the history of her family reveals the unlimited power into which she will grow. With the Historian’s training, Clare gains control of the powers she has already exhibited and is thus more prepared for the increase of powers she receives with the change. She is also more prepared for her confrontation with Marcus.
As Clare collects powers, she also collects more and more of her family secrets. Doing so really helps her understand more about her destiny and her importance. Clare grows strong, and not just the way in which her powers grow but also as a person, as a Watcher, as half of a beautiful relationship, and as a true friend. Her loyalty and love grow as strong as the silver she wears and carries into battle.
It is very difficult to cover the part of the plot during which Daniel dies without wanting to cry again. There is heart-wrenching sobbing involved while reading this part of the book. In fact, there is crying during the fourth reading of this book. The entire sequence of events during the last visit to the Historian’s home is hard to read through. It seems logical that Lynnie might have cried while writing it.
Clare comes to accept her importance as a beacon of hope for the fight against the might of Macus’ army. The tactical mastery of Reaper and Daniel combined with the special talents of the Saints’ generals make a formidable fighting force. With Clare to focus on ending Marcus and his mission, the military plan is a strong one.
When everything does not go as planned, Clare improvises as she always does… in a nonconventional way. Finally finding Marcus, Clare’s finds her task to be infinitely harder than she thought because he is bonding with the sword’s evil nature already. As the bonding grows stronger and stronger, Clare finds herself in danger of losing the fight. It is during this dire circumstance that time is momentarily stopped by Farris, a man who has recurred throughout the books and seen by different characters. Clare learns that Farris is her father. He tells her to call on Nemesis to help end the battle.
Once time resumes, Clare teleports across the way and calls for Nemesis. It is then that Clare learns Nemesis already fulfilled her favor-for-a-favor by bringing Daniel back to life in turn for setting Nemesis free from the space between. In order for Nemesis to kill Marcus, Clare must forfeit her life (or Daniel’s). Of course, her love for Daniel is too strong to have his life taken. Therefore, she readily agrees to give up her own. Just like that, Nemesis turns Marcus to ash.
Clare asks for a moment to destroy the evil sword; she never wants it to fall into anyone else’s hands. On contact, the evil begins to work on Clare. It is only her ring, the symbol of Daniel’s love for her, that saves her and creates enough pure light to destroy the evil of the sword and the evil fed by Marcus’ narcissistic greed. Ready to pay her debt to Nemesis, Clare is surprised when the Historian makes a deal to go in her stead. Although Clare is ready to refuse her offer, the Historian is insistent and is carried away by Nemesis.
This part of the story is also very sad and brings tears again at the sacrifice of the Historian. Following all of the drain on her body, Clare barely makes it back to the battlefield before collapsing. It is several days before she can tell the story of what happened beneath the battlefield. It is only then that everyone begins truly thinking about a real future. Clare and Daniel begin thinking about some peace and quiet in their lives.
This story has a little of everything: drama, dry wit, sarcasm, self-doubt, self awareness, self confidence, complete love, complete loss, evil, sacrifice, joy, success, happiness, looking forward to tomorrow. There is little more to ask from a story but these things. This book garnered 4 out of 5 stars. It would have been 4.5, but that potential for rating is not given.
This book, this series, it highly recommended. It is my hope that it will be turned into a series of movies.
I have just finished the last book of The Watchers Series and find myself sad that I am done. This series was so good I could start reading them from the beginning just so I would not be done. I have not enjoyed a set of books like these in a long time. Lynnie Purcell has a very vivid imagination to bring these books to life. I have totally enjoyed reading this set. My next book will be one of Lynnie Purcell's.
I felt this book had a perfect combination of action, love, sadness, and happiness. I knew there would be a few casualties at war it's just a sad when you read it. I do understand why certain people went but that doesn't stop it from hurting. The end result is great and I will say that I am happy with Clare's growth. She really comes into her own. All in all the book was great, I would probably give it a 4 1/2 if I could.
I really enjoyed finishing the last of this series. Even though I had wished that the unravelling had happened progressively rather than all in the last few chapters, I was happy to have seen it all take form. I also expected most of the revelations except for Marcus wanting to rule the world with Clare, that through me back. A good ending and a good series.
I just finished reading all 4 books and I really enjoyed them. Good solid story. Kind of like Twilight in the fact it's got the whole "super human/special powers" type stuff, but without the huge love story. I liked that the story changed locations, brought in new characters and at the end, all the characters stories were finished up.
The Watchers Series is extremely well written. The characters are every bit as real as a friend, and the story is epic. Lynnie Purcell knows how to keep you up all night reading, even when you should really go to bed.
This is where the rest of the series FINALLY wraps up. I loved these characters and am just not sure that I would have taken the story the way it went. It definitely made it kind of a let down. Lots of action and fighting, but it definitely seemed to drag on longer than it should have to.
I loved this series. Thank you for such a great story full of suspence and the whole cast of characters whom I grew to love. I hope their will be a spinoff. Maybe around Spider?
OMG...loved it....keeps you on the edge of your seat reading, contemplating what is going to happen next. great story line, lots of characters and detail. i couldnt put the book down!!!
